Someone above posted a video about these drives being fake.
I bought one, tested and took it apart (breaking the seals so voiding my warranty) just to make sure there's nothing actually wrong with them.

The capacity test was fine, filled the drive entirely with MKV files, the first and last ones transferred played without any issues (as well as a few random ones I clicked on).

The Maxio-tech controller is nothing special, what you'd expect from a budget SATA SSD.

It has 4 x YMTC 512GB TLC NAND modules, 2 on each side -.

Like that German reviewer stated, there's no real info regarding these NAND modules and other reviewers can't seem to find out much either -

fanxiang do seem to use the same NAND in many of their SSD's.

I'm fairly certain the NAND is manufactured by YMTC as fanxiang usually use YMTC NAND in their SSD's, there's just no public info regarding these modules (yet).
YMTC QLC NAND always have a Q in the part number and these don't so they are likely TLC.

The main thing is the drive is 100% a perfectly fine 2TB SSD, I had no issues from creating partitions to confirming all data written to the drive is readable.

So, the persaon that made the video likely just got a faulty drive and instead of realising it was faulty, he started going on about it being fake...which is clearly isn't.

    P.S.
Anyone want to buy a drive, 1 careful owner, low mileage? (edited)

Tried to find a review and just found this video:

One review on Amazon mentions this for the 1TB:

"Bought this drive as just want to speed up my old Acer, all looked good did a clean install of windows 10, speeded up the laptop great so all looked good.
I had 140Gb of data to transfer this is where the problem started it got half way through then started getting messages running out of space." (edited)

And there goes my warranty for this drive. (edited)

also interested to know if this brand is any good

Yeah, they're a relatively new brand but have had mostly good reviews from tech sites and consumers (apart from some German bloke that got a faulty drive and claims they are all fake, and the video get's posted on every fanxiang deal )

It's dispatched by Amazon anyway, so for the first year in the unlikely event of a problem you deal with them anyway. (edited)

I’ve got a few of the 1tb models of these Fanxiang drives in some systems and they’re great for the price. Scorching deal.

Hi, it's more expensive on AliExpress
50480034_1.jpgGood price, ideal for sticking games on voted hot.
But I can't say I've heard of this brand before or how reliable it is. (edited)

But I can't say I've heard of this brand before or how reliable it is.

They've been around a few years now and have got a lot of positive reviews from both tech sites and consumers.
I think they may be a subsidiary of YMTC, a large Chinese silicon manufacturer (a bit like Crucial being a subsidiary of Micron, but on a much smaller scale). (edited)

Wow - good find, heat added!
Regretting buying 4 x 120GB SSDs last week now, even if they were only £6.98 each! (They are now £5.99 each! Can I get a refund on the difference from Amazon?)

Probably not, most likely have to send them back and re-order.

Not untill more manufacturers produce them.
While there are so few options they basically get to charge whatever they like as there are so few options.
