To answer your question above, on the Wii U, you place the Amiibo base on the bottom left of the gamepad (not on the screen) to active them. On the new 3DS, you place the base on the bottom screen.

Amiibo figures will work with the 3DS fine – amiibo cards offer similar functionality (i.e. unlocking content) but have a different form factor. So instead of buying lots of figures, you buy lots of cards instead!

Amiibos cards are just basicly amiibos in card format, so you need either a NFC reader for the older models or the new 3ds models have it built in. amiibos work in the same way as on the wii u - the cards will also work like normal amiibos but be in card format, not figure format.

But it also comes with technology that allows your old 3DS or 3DS XL (i.e. a 3DS brought before January 2015) to become compatible with Amiibo's?

    That's right.

If you have a N3DS or N3DSXL you'll probably be able to get Happy Home Designer without the NFC pad for cheaper.

They have not been released over here yet - you could look to importing but my gut feeling is that this pack at this price would be more cost effective (assuming you want both!).

The UK price hasn't been set over here but personally, I would expect it to be £15.

How many cheesed of parents are going to see smashed or damaged screens, kids will be kids. Would have been better if there was some plugin modules available, with a nice display (a bit like Skylanders). Missed opportunity, could have been a Green Pipe for Mario characters, Toads House, a little Bowsers castle, a Zelda themed plugin module...

exactly 0 amiibos work on the screen.

Edit: Ah - thought you were talking about the Wii U GamePad's screen. The screens on the 3DS family (and the DS family) are pretty darn tough though. You have to try to break them in order to do any real damage.

So, while it's a valid possibility, it might not be as bad as feared. As they'll really have to try to bash the screen in order for the scratches or damage to be bad enough for visibility or gameplay to suffer badly

Personally I think an external peripheral should always have been the desired method of scanning, new or old.

Wow I'd be really surprised if they held that price. Never preordered with 365 tho, how are they for price hiccups happening and payment taking? I might put a placeholder order.

Fractionally cheaper - if you want to save a huge 11p - at Shop4World.com (part of the same group as 365 games) at £30.94 + £1.94 delivery.

What is wrong with Nintendo. Release 5 million Amiibos and not provide much games that work with them, and in the case of the 3DS, not even have a compatibility gadget available until alter.

Might be worth a mention – all copies of the game come with one special amiibo card, not just this bundle.

Let's hope the Amiibo cards are cheaper than the ridiculous 'collectible' figures that gather dust...I think it's a ridiculous way of Nintendo having DLC in games although obviously quite the money spinner.

Do you know something many others do not? It is well reported that the 3DS screens scratch easily...heck the original 3DS could scratch the top screen just by closing the unit, the raised touch screen bezel causing the problem.

Oh I know they scratch but to break one requires effort. Even the scratches aren't like taking sandpaper across the screen.

Seeing they scratch so easily, it is still the dumbest idea. Considering the only age recommendation on the 3DS is for children over 6 to use the 3D mode and seeing the way kids love to bash down toys, scratches and breakages can and will occur.
