Just thought I would update that i got a response from JL today and they have price matched with Tesco and will be refunding me £30. So that's iPad Air 16GB with 3 year Guarantee for only £369. I'm happy with that.
Now just need to decide if I should take out the JL insurance at £75 or use Amex personal possessions insurance at £12.99pm

Doubt they'll even be making this model in 3 years so would be handy if it did pack up near the end

  19. rwttm001's avatar
Hot - paid for with cashback card for 2% John Lewis and bought through works Salary Extras scheme where JL has a points offer on to convert to £16 so hopefully this will be a £375 purchase with the 3 year warranty. Thanks OP.:)

Not really an offer. Don't get me wrong I always buy from John Lewis when I can, but you get 2 year warranty anyway. May be Better off picking iPad up for £340-350 there have been numerous deals lately and purchasing AppleCare £49 or AppleCare+ £79 ( includes accidental damage ) just pointing out options. Many thank to poster

It's not Warranty, it's Guarantee. There is a difference. Warranty is from manufacturer and guarantee is from reseller who have their own terms and conditions.

How many times do people have to be told that John Lewis offer extra Guarantee not warranty. Title is misleading.

My comment was directed at OP really and others who see JL giving "warranty" when it's a "guarantee". Technically, one could argue they are the same since both will offer repair or replacement within the Guarantee period. However, there is a difference in legal sense.

I have nothing to say about your comment whether this is expensive or not. To each their own.

I never voted, But I just voted Hot for the Op's comical Title edit.

I think you missed it, We all new it wasn't £399 for just a Warranty/Guarantee, We all new you got an iPad Air free with it, But that's not how the Op worded it, So it made people smile, And feel justified for another pop at Apple.

just a heads up. i went to oxford street JL to buy an ipad air 32gb today. they don't have any! they told me to order it online and get it sent to the nearest store or waitrose! for me its not bad, i have a waitrose 2 miles away. but for the busiest time of the year, you'd think they'd make sure they have. what a wasted journey. i should have just listened to my instinct and stayed at home, ordered online without the travel hassle. anyway, ordered it on line.

Excellent deal. The 3 year Guarantee is on purchases made up until 26th January. Don't forget the Price Match policy, I'm sure (hoping) there will be discounts at other retailers from Boxing day. I've already completed the price match form to match tesco with the £30 code which expires on Monday 23rd.

Went on eBay to see if I can get cheap JL gift Vouchers and there's a guy selling £400 worth for £395 Plus postage. What are these people thinking. Surely you need to provide an incentive to entice people to buy. If I'm going to spend the £400 I may as well spend it direct at JL. Having said that on other JL voucher auctions I've noticed the bids are within pounds of the actual face value of vouchers... whats the point in that?!

Oh and Kidstart provides 4% cashback but obviously this only goes towards the kids savings account

How have you figured it's worth £75? You sure you not confused that with their insurance policy that also covers for accidental damage?

Sorry my bad, you're right its the service plan. however 3 year guarantee is still worth..

One of my friend's ipad stopped recharging after 1.5 years and since he only had 1 year warranty, he had to pay some money to get it repaired and 3 year guarantee is almost like the life span of the product.. almost!!

He should have stood his ground with the retailer. It's fair to assume that even after 1.5 years of usage a product within the premium segment of tablet market should expect to perform much longer than that.
Obviously the JL 3 year guarantee just takes the hassle away and I was fairly confident I could get the iPad for £369 which is what a lot of retailers are selling them for.

Can't decide on a smart case now. I don't want a bulky one. Just one that i very similar to the Apple Smart case (without the ludicrous price tag). There seems to be loads of version son eBay/Amazon but can't decide which one. I'm sure they're all manufactured by a handful of manufacturers.

I've just had a PM from another user asking about the Tesco price match even though it's out of stock... here's how I got JL to match it.

it was also showing as out of stock when I wanted to price match but it appeared to be a glitch. When I viewed the product page it showed as out of stock, but I viewed the page that listed all the iPad Airs I could add it to the basket from there. I added this to my basket to see if it worked and it did, I could go all the way to checkout. I made a point of mentioning this glitch to JL in my Price Match request.

Though I believe now this does not work as it may be genuinely out of stock (on the page it lists all the iPads)
