Designed for comfort and portability.
Nexus 7 by ASUS has been designed so it can be used all day. The 7” display makes this all possible. The first Android 4.1 Jelly Bean device.
As the first device to run the brand new Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system, the Nexus 7 by ASUS is state of the art. Jelly Bean has been designed to eliminate lagginess, so everything is faster, smoother and crisper. There’s more from Jelly Bean.
And that’s not all. There’s also offline voice typing, a super intelligent keyboard that’ll predict your next word and a smarter, more advanced Notifications app. A beautiful and fast new voice-based Google Search gives you a digital assistant. Ask questions and you’ll get digital cards displaying relevant information, and even voiceovers to tell you the answers to your queries.

NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 has a fifth ‘companion core’ that uses less power than the four main cores. This smaller core takes over when your Nexus 7 is doing basic tasks, like writing emails or web surfing, saving battery power for when you need it most.
Looking for a tablet that’s ultra fast, super portable, boasts the very latest state of the art software and is the ideal app machine? Nexus 7 by ASUS could be your ideal tablet partner.

Yeah, heard about this Tesco company once or twice before, I reckon they are the next big thing in retail.
Result!
also, can you download iplayer as the kids love watching stuff on there and thinking of when travelling would be good?
Someone mentioned "rooting", being a newbie to this sort of thing what does this mean and is it essential to use it?
thanks in advance
Lisa
Actually in the tests I've seen the Nexus 7 is faster than the iPad 3 in the browsing department ;)
I would defiantly root for flash player though!
Like EatMould said, Paul O'Brien over at Modaco.com has made a nice "rom" to simplify the process:
Root guide: http://www.modaco.com/topic/355552-superboot-rooting-the-nexus-7/
Custom Rom: http://www.modaco.com/topic/355705-jr4-jro03d-411-modaco-custom-rom-for-the-nexus-7/
Linked again :)
Honestly rooting a Nexus device is easier than installing software / drivers on your PC. Just follow the instructions and you'll be done in 5mins!
As for the risks involved.. Actually I don't think I have EVER seen a newbie do any damage whatsoever to their phone / tablet. Moist people who "Brick" their phone / tablet are cocky idiots who don't bother reading instructions and try to root their HTC phone with a Samsung hack.. :|
Hmmmm.. If they are technology illiterate it maybe worth paying the extra for the iPad..
That said I got both my mother and grandmother using laggy old android phones years ago and both don't even know how to turn on a PC X)
A little bit of time, patience and set-up is required here. Infact installing the Windows Phone 7esk launcher is a huge help for older people who aren't constantly adding apps. (Big buttons with big icons and big text is the way to go. Simpler than the iPad :D)
Pure simplicity

Just need BBC & channel 4 to come up with jelly bean compatible apps now. Other than that, its a brilliant tablet.
Click and collect - Friday after 1600 apparently, not holding my breath though.

If you don't mind rooting, Paul O'Brien at Modaco.com has enabled iPlayer. http://www.modaco.com/topic/355705-jr4-jro03d-411-modaco-custom-rom-for-the-nexus-7/
