Worth a special mention of its own, rather than just included in the general Lidl posts - this is a rather special battery charger, very much like the much more expensive CTEK models, but at a fraction of the price.

Electronic, versatile and capable of dealing with problems that an ordinary charger couldn't cope with.

Buy one for the cold weather battery problems - but be early. These are likely to sell out quickly.

Electronically controlled, fully automatic charging with LED indicator
Choose from continuous charging function or trickle charging with thermal overload and reverse polarity protection
Charging cable with insulated clips
Suitable for most 6V and 12V car or motorcycle batteries with a 1.2- 120Ah capacity
4 variable charging rates, max. (A): 3.8
Operating voltage: 220-240V~ 50/60Hz
Recovery mode helps to prevent sulphation
Size (cm): 19.5 x 6.7 x 4.4
Cable length (m): 1.9
3 year manufacturer’s warranty

I bought one to replace my old charger when it wouldn't charge my Bike battery, this also wouldn't charge it nor would the one I bought to replace this one. Turns out most chargers won't charge when the battery output falls below 4 volts I think it is. If your battery is completely dead this won't charge it (I have since borrowed a more expensive battery charger which done the job). Seems pretty good from the manual though

Is this really as good as CTEK 'cos the CTEK ones are brillant

I would say yes, but I only ever borrowed a CTEK, I own this one, it is fantastic

Best £13 I have spent in a long while.(_;)

Good value.... but it's only a 4 amp charger.... I'm after a 10A to 20A charger to really bring a dead car battery back to life ASAP any suggestions please....

This WONT charge flat batteries, or even ones with a little charge left.

They need to have around 4V output left before they will start to charge.

The Aldi version was better as it displays the voltage or an error if the battery is too flat.

Its fine to keep a battery topped up on a permanent connection as it drops the rate - but if you only want to buy one charger this one is no use as you wont get dead batteries to work again.

Lastly - Aldi never cleared their stock before Christmas of the LCD displayed version - and dropped the price by £6.

I too managed to charge a few 'flat' batteries with this. Flat enough not to start anyway. Great peice of kit for the price.

For a totally dead battery, use a set of jump leads to boost the dead battery with charger connected just few mins and it will kick in and massage your battery

yes, you can it will charge your battery

You might need to enter a postcode to view the charger. Worth a look, though - these are really quite exceptional and a steal at the price. There's nothing else like it on the market at anywhere near this price.

i have two which keep my two motorbikes on constant charge in my garage, as ive got through a few batterys by not keeping them optimised..
  22. samwants2save's avatar
so, are these things like 'trickle' charges which you plug into say eg. mobility scooter to ensure the battery never dies and is always kept topped up?

Exactly - it can be left charging indefinitely.

battery on my bike was flat the other week so put this on to charge it. it started charging ok but then got to where it thought the battery was charged and stopped. i fitted the battery back on the bike and it was not charged enough to turn the engine once let alone start it. i tried 3 times and in the end used another `non-intelligent` charger which worked fine.
  27. gari189's avatar
Used this to trickle charge a bike battery and to re-charge a flat car battery. One thing to be aware of - it took about 10 minutes for it to start charging the car battery (no indicator lights) so at first thought the charger was knackered.....

Would have liked more max charging amps for my car battery..... but i think this charger would be good for my bike. Certainly seems comparable to the expensive Optimates.

In such a small package at this price? This is a bargain. It's low amps but it's a good price. I've got chargers that cost 15plus times this price but I'd still buy a couple of these to keep things ticking over.

very good charger at the best price ever!!!
I've been using it for ages now for one of the biggest 12V batteries around and it performs much better than the ones with more max charging amps...

I had to use this on a faulty Vectra 2.2 battery (large) most of last winter - it would bring it to life with a decent overnigh charge - for the money I paid it was well worth

Any difference in specs between the two ?
  36. deleted30653's avatar
Yup it is special - 3.8A max output - that is very very very low. If you have a diesel it could take an eternity to fully charge a flat battery.
(I see a bit of hype here over this)
May be suitable f you have a classic car and you just want to keep the battery trickle charged over the winter months - otherwise I would recommend to steer clear of this.

Is it possible to use this system to charge more than one battery at the same time? (I am currently renovating a boat, and have yet to turn my attention to the electrics -- seems like a v.cheap way of keeping a small bank of leisure batteries charged...)
  38. deleted289851's avatar
oh.. i currently have a nearly flat battery..wont start car.. and its a 1.9 diesel... is this battery charger not good for me?
  39. Biker.Jeff's avatar
They seem the same charging output then, although i prefer the LCD display if it gives you volts remaining in state of charge.

3.8 amps MAX! - it's just weeny but have heat for making me laugh ...
