25th October for the next deals from Dell.

Here is the link to the expired deal that was on for a couple of weeks. This is Dell in a nutshell for you. Personally I think this deal isn't very good and you should all wait for another week or two until they give you the TL60 processor for the same price. They did this with the Vostro 1700 a few weeks back. They just rotate the prices back and forth so right now it's the expensive time.

Cold deal when compared to what you'll get if you wait.

As long as you have enough credit on your card to stand having 2 dells reserving money then I would recommend buying on a wednesday before the deals are updated. If you need to cancel all it will cost you is the reserved funds being tied up for a week.
They email you the copy of your order, just email back the next day and cancel, if it does get as far as actually turning up at your home just refuse delivery, but you can deal with it easily in my experiance by email long before it gets to that.
They will ring you when you cancel an order to try to get you to change your mind or just to see why they failed.

nice one mike. hot indeed. im well tempted. does anyone know what the approx battery life is for each of the cell options?
  7. anonemoney's avatar
based on previous threads - "dells are quite good usually around 3hr for the small, 5 for the 6 cell and up to 7 for the 9 cell just browsing. DVD watching will reduce those figures"

    hope this helps!!!

Yep i was thinkin about the upgrade to 6cell for an extra £11+

Saw this yesterday, great spec and nice price.

I'm thinking about a laptop but does anyone think its worth holding off to closer to xmas for better deals?
  10. deleted37048's avatar
I can see that Dell decided to raise the price on evalue code N1010003
which yesterday was priced at £388 also and had a matching spec to N1010003a, but with the TL60 Chip.

    Crafty gits...

it protrudes a little from the bottom (only by about 2mm though, which is smaller than the rubber feet), but does not stick out at the rear of the unit (contrary to what some people have said).

I have the 9 cell battery in the vostro 1000 from this thread

Will anyone leave the 3 year next day business support on? Or is it only for busineses?

Am just a bit worried that the laptop might break 18 months in, and if only the base warranty is selected, there'd be no cover?

You could buy with just the 1yr warranty then during the year if dell dont contact you to ask if you want to extend it (they usually do) then you can get a quote from them for extending it, usually its cheaper this way too.

Mine got delivered today from the last time this was posted on here - about 2 weeks ago. Setting it up now.

I got the 9 cell battery and the TL screen. Battery does not stick out at all.
  22. deleted18375's avatar
Dell actually have diagrams showing how the 9-cell pokes out - but I'm guessing that doesn't apply to all laptops.

That seems like a good price for that machine - makes you wonder what you'll get if you call them up
  23. deleted18375's avatar
BTW - this has Vista Business, which is supposed to be an XP Pro replacement for business use. It does not include the Media Center interface, though, which some people prefer. I believe Dell are fairly reluctant to repackage the Vostros with Home Premium, so you may have to plump for an Inspiron if you want that functionality.

My bets are that the TL60 will be available for the same price in a week or two if it already has. As I've already mention Dell do a couple of weeks with an amazing deal and then a couple of weeks with a not so good deal. The confusing thing at the moment is that the not so good deal is still very good compared to other laptops.

I have the 9 cell battery on the Vostro 1700 and it sticks out.

The price in the first post is the price you will pay £387 delivered, dell sometimes get twisted and charge delivery of £60 instead of putting it into the units price and having free delivery. Makes no difference as your paying £387. Would be a real top bargain if they reduced it by another £60!

The Inspiron 1501 and Vostro 1000 notebooks dont have svideo out. The Inspiron 6400 and Vostro 1400, 1500 and 1700 do as do the other Inspiron notebooks but I cant point you to a bargain right now as Dell are being tight. Maybe by the weekend they will lower some prices for us.
  35. saxo_appeal's avatar
    To be honest,

we got the 9 cell and picked the Truelife screen and paid the £387, even playing videos it does the job fine.
the truelife screen does make the screen look really silky and smooth.

the 9 cell is a DEF must as no doubt you wont always have it connected to the mains, this way you can sit in your bed or in the living room with ample power. Dont get a 6 cell as it wont be enough

overall at this price you cant go wrong, if this was in PC world you would certainly be paying over £500.

This has to be the best deal i have ever come acroos and i can only thank Emasu for the original thread, plus Mike for bringing this back on with a New Deal

Dont miss out on this one, the last time this was on at this price the Deal percentage hit the roof !

I currently have a desktop PC with an AOL broadband connection but if I purchased one of these laptops, what is the easiest way to connect so that that i can go on the internet with the laptop and desktop at the same time incurring only one charge from AOL.

Do I have to network the laptop and desktop together or can i use some kind of router. WOuld the laptop come with the correct equipment or do I purchase these separately.
  40. saxo_appeal's avatar

oh.....why on earth would you want to go with AOL? one of the worst, we had AOL and it was appauling
