sorted byYes. Id ring them up again and order the vostro 1000 (N0810003) with what you want and ask to change to home premium, which if they let you will come to £387 for what you want. Essesntially from what i can see the vostro is just a black version of the 1501
Same goes for the graphics card, if your not going to be gaming then downgrade it to the 8400 GS. This will aslo allow you to get more time out of your battery.
Yh people in the US have got the vostro 1500 with XP. No idea about the graphics card though, i thought Dell never offered 8600 GS only 8400 GS and 8600 GT?
Yes that 2048 memory wasn't touted as part of the deal.
Basically she chucked in bluetooth and a free dell remote as well as discounting the warranty.
The online price for the same spec would be:£873.02
Less 5 % cashback = £829.37
which equals £124.37 discount.
However I know the warranty prices are hideously over inflated so to say this is a discount isn't strictly true.
If i bought the same machine with 1 years basic warranty online is quoting: £697.95
Less 5 % cashback = £663.05
which means I am paying £41.95 for the 3 year next business day warranty. Even by Dell standards this seems pretty good (even assuming i only actually get 2 years extra cover that's £21/year).
The lady i spoke to didn't muck about on the phone- she offered me this deal pretty quickly as she said it was the end of her shift. She was very polite and didn't give me the lies that some dell staff had tried early on. I asked if she would do similar deals for my 'friends':friends:(love that smiley) . She said that if they took a decent warranty then she could certainly consider more deals. If anyone wants her contact details then please PM me and I'll gladly pass them on.
My estimeted delivery date is 7th September.
Glad to hear it. My colleague wasted hours trying to fix his machine himself thru online forum discussions etc until I reminded him of the purpose of his warranty! The Dell next day at home service is brill, and it's international. About to order new laptop/s and seriously considering the 4-yr NBD warranty as it's been offered at less than £100. £25 a year seems a worthwhile payout for that, especially as the machine starts to age.

Yes, I think the price drop and added value of the graphics is to some extent to try and win advance orders as there is a delivery delay and this must hurt Dell.
and he said he could put vista premium on it for free!
has any one else managed to get a better deal?
I really only want a fairly basic laptop for my own use, (such as the Vostro 1000's or 1400's) but with a better graphics card for my son's occasional gaming use. However if I take a 1400 and upgrade the graphics, it is as expensive as this 1500, but without the T7100 processor, the 160 gig hard drive and the 15" screen. Equally, you can down-grade the 1500 on the small business bit of the Dell website, which gets you a great gaming laptop for under £500 - but it only saves about £40 compared to this.
I'm struggling with the MS Office bit - can anyone help?. If I don't buy the OEM version at £100-ish from Dell, do I have to buy the whole thing for the retail price elsewhere, or can I just get a "key" for the same price? (I only ask because I didn't consider it when buying the Currys one).

They look the same configuration to me..
The product page detailing the Vostro 1500 series:
www1.euro.dell.com/con…pup
says "Maximise hot spot connectivity with available next generation Wireless-N Wi-Fi® for up to 5x faster throughput and up to 2x the range when used with a Wireless-N router"
Is that available through a firmware update, or is it that the chipset supports it but some other component doesn't?
Its a different mini card (internal) and is listed under tab 3
Intel® Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-Card - Europe add £11.75
But i couldn't even get a mouse or bag out off them!
I tried for the wxga+ trulife display and a 9 cell battery.
has anyone else tried for this deal and got upgrades?
i ordered the 1500 a few weeks ago & canceled that due to this offer, anyway i ordered this offer yesterday morning over the phone & managed to get it for £520 with vista premium & truelife which im happy with but ive not recieved any confirmation about the order yet,the order i placed a few weeks ago i had an email back within minutes of ordering, i had the blokes name & number wrote down but for the life of me cant find it so i cant get back on to him.
i just rang dell asking about my order & the person i spoke to said theres nothing on the system about an order placed yesterday just the order i canceled & then he said i'll just have to wait for the person who dealt with my order to get in touch with me.
basically just wanting to know if its normal for them to take a few days before they send a confirmation out
thanks
I had zero success in trying to negotiate. He just told me to buy it off the web.
this is quite usefull when comparing the ]different types of vista
One rep kept putting the price down but couldn't match the £739 I got offered before for £786 online. which is not bad I suppose, better than quidco by nearly 20 quid.
One rep kept telling me that if I bought off her I would be able to contact her directly if I had any problems, little did she know I already had about 5 direct extension numbers hehe.
I got offered free carry case by another bloke as well. So if they don't offer you any discount mention quidco and your 'friend' getting some discount. After that just say you are not happy and not going to buy anything.
This method saved me £100!
For the same specs the Inpiron one costs £300 more. Is there any thing special with the Inspiron model??
