this site is meant to save people money and time... this deal (Post if you like) serves that function. Its a newly announced popular product, its fine to let the odd good use of voucher deal slip in.

Who you calling a muppet? No need in calling people names. Who do you … Who you calling a muppet? No need in calling people names. Who do you think you are? It is my opinion I don't go around calling you do I? Their is no point in this as it will be redundant in the very near future. That TV you have upstairs in a few years might be a smart TV . I can also see mobile phones in the near very near future actually coming with components so they can interact with any TV old or new.

I think he was calling you a Muppet. Probably because of the amount of muppetry in your original post, where you suggested this item is "pointless" if you have an Xbox etc... (which is quite clearly ludicrous). Therefore I concur that you are indeed a Muppet.

To add - All the people leaving negative comments on this thread about me stealing it and making it my own, lets just clarify that i found the £5 off voucher but posted this one first. I was then beaten to posting the actual voucher by stfagos by about 10 seconds but im not posting negative comments in his thread.

I really wish people would stop bumming the hell out of Plex. Unless I missed something I would need to have a PC somewhere running 24/7 with Plex and all of my media on. What about people who don't have other PC's? What about people who do have a PC and don't want to leave it switched on 24/7 (environment and money cost) or switch it on every time they want to watch a movie.

With the Chromecast, and the media that I carry about on my phone, I can watch an episode of GoT or Walking Dead without all the hassle and if I don't watch it all I can continue watching it on my phone in bed or on the train the next day.

Perhaps I have missed something so please update me if I have.

Op found the voucher deal before anyone else and paired it with this as it's just been released in the UK. Why people are getting butt hurt over it is beyond me, if you are not interested in the deal just move on.

Is this pointless like the NowTV box? I bought the NowTV box back when it … Is this pointless like the NowTV box? I bought the NowTV box back when it was posted on this site for £10. I never use it. Also what is going to be the point in this when more or less every TV in the future will have smart features that will interact with smart phones anyway? Also my S4 phone can already be connected to the TV (Yes by cables) through MHL HDMI lead anyway. Also if Samsung got on the bandwagon quicker sold their wireless allshare cast cheaper then they would be leading the pack. If you have a modern games console this is pointless. If you have a smart blu ray player this is pointless. If you have a PC this is pointless. If you have an android box this is pointless. If you have a YouView box this is pointless. All these things can already connect to a TV by HDMI to watch TV and movies.

And if you have none of those things then its not pointless? Im sorry i must have missed your point?

I have an Xbox 360, but I dont want to carry it up the stairs and wire it back in if i want to watch The walking dead on Netflix!!! Muppet

Completely agree. I don't want my laptop to be on 24/7. Nor do I want to go out and buy a 'low power' server (what a suggestion!) to put somewhere in my house (where it's not wanted) on the off chance I might use it a couple of times a week for a movie or two. Or an Android tablet. Or any of the other costly suggestions made by individuals who seem to hell-bent on pushing Plex.

It's inconvenient and unnecessary complex to the average consumer at best. Personally, as someone with relatively decent technical knowledge, Plex offers zero merits to me versus other solutions available. The basic requirement of having a dedicated server (or whatever device somebody recommends to buy additionally at further cost) on 24/7 with all the data you want to access contained within, would be an absolute nuisance to me.

I don't know about others, but I try and minimise crap on around the house, and from a data point of view, minimise the amount of locations where I store it. I see Plex as a 'middle-man' which will eventually become redundant, based on current technological developments.

Haven't read through all comments, but saw someone mention the lovely app Cartoon HD and if you can cast to TV. The answer is YES, i worked it out yesterday. Only from android as far as I know. Download Avia (the one with chromecast in the title). Go into app and tap on the cast logo, it will ask you to pay £1.68 to unlock the function. Then you can go to cartoon hd, select a film and choose custom, then choose Avia as the media player. Job done :). There are loads of apps on android for chromecast, but not so many on iOS, probably because of the open source nature of android. We've has ours a few weeks and have used it every day, great little device.
