Rrp £269.99, not many discounts to be had on lego.com for this other than free poly bag and VIP points, so £55 off is not to be sniffed at. Doubt it'll be in stock online long at this price.

Not sure if any toys r us voucher codes still available that would reduce it further?

Is there a typo in the post or is it really £200 for some plastic?

2,996 pieces of plastic to be exact. So 6p a piece. Much better value than most Lego sets and will hold it's value far better than most toys.

Its not for children and you can't really play with it.

The detail in the build is far beyond an average child's attention span.

You need to take a breather! Nobody is talking massive profits. Most of us are buying to use or keep as a collectors item. If at some point its worth £100 or so more than we paid for it then happy days. Don't get upset because your profits are dropping as more people are buying to sell at a later date.

Nope.Go back and read the article I linked to on page 1 of this thread. … Nope.Go back and read the article I linked to on page 1 of this thread. Even run of the mill sets (I wouldn't class this one as run of the mill either) go up in value almost as soon as production stops. The article mentions some corner house that was made in 2007 or something which sold for around £200 is now worth £2k or something crazy like that.Large Lego sets are most definitely an investment now. (As long as your kids don't get their grubby mitts on them ... )

The Cafe Corner and MIllennium Falcon which were mentioned in that thread were released back 8 years ago when the investing scene had no exposure. Those kind of returns are long gone as every Tom, Dick and Harry seems to be involved in it these days. Do you really think a set will ever be 'rare' again?

Do you really think a set will ever be 'rare' again?

    Yes.

    Or no.

Doesn't matter. Doesn't even need to be especially rare, just not in production. They don't produce all sets forever. They won't produce this one forever. Plenty sold sets on Ebay for over £250 already. Be waiting a long time for a savings account to turn £214 into £250+. You might not get some of the crazy 500%+ returns they're on about, but you're not likely to lose out.

(I'm not a Lego collector, but I have a friend who is ...)

If you’re small time buying a few sets at deep discounts, flipping and taking a few quid here, then fine, right. But eBay 10%, paypal 5%, shipping 5%, packaging costs 3%. 30% costs on a sale is about what you looking at. Buy a Heli at £215 sell at £300 and you make ~£20 profit before tax.

Risk of fraud during selling, damage during shipping, theft during storage. If you’re small time, one loss can wipe out your profit and if you’re not submitting a self-assessment form for tax anyway, it’s a hassle. Go large scale to make the economies work and then it’s a real business, with real competition.

And of course this is a 2015 set, MCU have avengers films scheduled up 2019, with infinity wars. This set will be around for another 4-5 years. There is no easy money here.

Yes he is. His PM to me was complaining that i was exposing the market and damaging my own sales. If there was no longer a market i would not have received the message, would I?

Sorry though pal, this site is all about sharing - that includes not just deals but knowledge too.

But it's not really for children and it's certainly not a toy, it's a display piece for collectors.

If you're going to bring the morality of spending money on a luxury item rather than feeding a starving child, that's a whole different discussion and not really appropriate for HUKD!!

    The end result would be....interesting.

Yes kids love Minecraft hell even adults love Minecraft but the above are video games. Good look getting a child to sit there with you and build this over 12+ Hours

I wouldn't trust a kid near this they would probably eat a brick..

Yes it is a lot of money but if you can afford it (which I can't), at least you are spending the time a) doing something constructive and rewarding and b) possibly spending time engaging with a son/daughter rather than staring at a screen (which admittedly is what I'm doing right now!).

Items worth tidy sum are limited edition, first release, very rare or very old. So in 10-20 years you might get bankrupt with them lego items before they will go up in price....Probably keep them for your grandchildren

Lego retire big builds like this after a few years. I'd guess in 3 years this will be worth £500 + if retired sooner than later.

The 10221 Super Star Destroyer retired 1 year ago. Its now worth £750+ base purchase price was around £200

Just tried replying to your pm, but im getting an error (posted in feedback, bit of a weird one).

I dont buy lego to sell myself, just know that its profitable from the masses of easily available info online - several links in this thread alone. My comment was mainly to point out that lego isnt just for kids, its big business and easy money if you put your mind to it.

Minus shipping at approximately £10 and £3-4 for a decent cardboard box and packaging and I make that a loss. Of course yet again people conveniently gloss over costs, fees, taxes, time etc

Great price but no stores anywhere near me have stock. It's fine for lego stores to have stock sitting on shelves as they only sell lego but i can see these large, expensive sets being wasted space in other toy shops. I love that I can get bigger sets from smyths, j lewis etc now as they do more discounts/promos.

My daughter wanted a set with bday money. It was £60 in local lego store. No free polybag, crappy points or shopping 'experience' would change the fact it was only £40 in the argos store across the street.

Not a bad price. To make it a bit sweater, get some Toys R Us gift cards from Tesco for some Club card points as well. This is what I do. For every £60 of £20 cards, you get 150 points. I'd do one £60 per transaction, just in case. You still get the full amount of gold VIP points as well. I do this all time when Toys R Us send me through vouchers.
