Not the cheapest this has been - around £92 back in November - but still a huge discount off the RRP of £139.99. 888 pieces in the set, including a circular train track. This is also currently the same price at ASDA direct, but it is out of stock.

The world has gone mad, to build a city would be running into thousands, buy it now and it'll get used a few times, no sell on value as parts will undoubtably go missing, therefore it'll end up as junk...

It is quite impressive how much 'wrong' there is in your post. I'd pick it apart, but I really can't be bothered..... I have lego to build.

OK, I'll bite. The price of lego per brick or per gram has fallen over the last 30 years. Sell on value is pretty high, boxed and complete with instructions is obviously higher, but you can replace missing pieces via bricklink or alternatively sell the individual pieces there.

I can't think of many other kids' toys that have remotely the same resale value as lego does. Console games? Maybe around 50% if you sell quickly enough. Anything else?

As the article says, there are two main reasons for the perception that lego is expensive. 1) it has always been expensive but you didn't realise it at the time, and 2) there are more sets covering a wider price range than before.

i can't remember if Lego always was that expensive since I was playing with them (30+ years ago), but even at almost 100 quid seems a lot money for 888 small pieces of plastic...

A great set. We got this for the kids from very a few weeks ago for £70 (£100 less £30 new customer code).

It's a better set than the passenger train as come with more trucks, more track and a crane so much more interaction for the kids

Good thinking ref the Very code. Shame they've put the price up to £140, otherwise I'd have bitten at £70. Was hoping they might have brought some new train sets out for 2016 but can't see anything.

be prepared for the 2 hours+ non stop building of this set, double that if doing it together with a young child

allow even extra time, and some tin foil, to get the motor working because of the bad battery contact design

also have head ache pills on standby from the glare of looking at the instruction pages for hours from your light source

and don't be surprised when, somehow, that you're the only one in the family who can, possibly, put the train on the tracks properly, roughly every 30 seconds

    enjoy

You could listen to cowsindahouse's review. Alternatively, you look at the 98 reviews on Amazon which average 4.5 out of 5. Price up now BTW.
