Bought this and it was so compact and lightweight which was great but I struggled to type plus I found it REALLY slow just surfing the net! So only worth getting if you have a lot of spare time to sit and wait!

Linux mint would and does thrive on lower powered hardware.

If you know what you are talking about, it's a way of working out how good a deal it is. Just because something is cheap, doesn't mean it is good. Specification is the biggest factor when looking at computers in general, and this site is designed around consumer awareness. So, to answer your rant, he gave good advice. Perhaps you don't understand computers which would indicate your low tolerance for discussions on the subject?

this sort of spec seems to suit a tablet , why not buy a real laptop if you need a laptop

You wont. 2gb is fine for windows 10

Windows wise you're fine. It'll get a bit sluggish with lots of chrome tabs open but still suffice. Have a similar hp which splits into a tablet with only 2gb ram and it's OK.

Why oh why when there's a Baytrail / Silvermont or similar Braswell type deal do we have to endure the now repetitive senseless and boring debate over memory size, storage capacity and processor performance ?

Again the question is raised - is it a good deal? Plain and simple.

I agree with the general consensus of comments but am still saying this is hot. Is a great budget travel type notebook to be taking on holiday if you need to check email or access a website, or for killing dead time while out. Handy for a cafe with Wi-Fi and so on.

Not sure many people would want to lug this around on a holiday when a phone or tablet can do everything you want to use this laptop for...check emails, access website and while away time.

I see your point, and call me old fashioned and Mr 2005, but I prefer dedicated equipment. I have a camera for taking photos, a computer for the internet and gaming and all purposes. I have a simple basic no contract phone for occasional text messaging or phone calls, that is not equipped to do any of the above. So as such I really like this deal

My daughter had one for Christmas. It's principally for making notes/internet at college. But needless to say she's been using it for social media and watching videos as well. It's not lightning quick but it's more than good enough, light, small and a raging bargain IMO

2GB RAM is fine for these sorts of devices and what they'll be used for.

129.99 seems like Silly money for a laptop.

Here's a question though, this or a refurbished thinkpad that seem to pop up on Hukd every once in a while? Usually on for about 150 quid but genuinely undecided.

The comments indicate battery life at a mere 4 hours?? Is this correct?

I would agree with this from experience, i have a 5 year old laptop that had 2gb of ram which was on windows 7 and super slow and i upgraded to win 10 and it is now fast.

PS i also did a factory reset removing all windows 7 and also manufacturer bloatware.

That's about right for a laptop

if you want long battery life, get the lenovo 100s, or an asus x205ta, which can be got for a simialr price, but they are a little slower than this. They also come with Office 365.

Purchased for my daughter this Christmas and was slightly dubious due to the low spec, but pleasantly surprised. Granted she will be using it for homework, browsing and the like but it's perfectly adequate for these things. Much better than a tablet in plenty of scenarios, at least for us. It's incredibly lightweight and portable, making it ideal if you like a proper keyboard as opposed to a tablet keyboard.

Great price but crippling slow as it's completely hamstrung by that non-upgradeable 2gb ram.

Interesting view point. We have several 1GB laptops with Baytrail and Celeron cpus and 1GB RAM, and they make great ultraportables (light, small and long battery life) for light use - office and browsing. We don't find them cripplingly slow.

Simply single tasking - passable. Media heavy web pages, several tabs, other tasks running in background, alt+tabbing between programs etc, your hair turns grey waiting for things to happen....1gb ram for Windows is just painful as it's such a resource hog and start using a swap file which further degrades performance.

For light use, browsing, emails etc, I'd take a Chromebook (lighter, smaller, faster, longer battery life) over any Windows machine.
