Heat for cheapest pre order price. I will get this but like the multiplayer Zelda game I think this will sink like a balloon in price very quickly, so will wait till sub 15

Metroid had always been great at giving a sense of isolation...whose idea was multiplayer? :|

It's a spin-off. By definition it can't be the same kind of experience, just takes place in the same universe.

Won't take long before this drops further - absolutely flatlined in Japan. I'm sure it's an ok game but has ticked off a lot of Metroid fans

This is a really good game, a Metroid spin-off but in this title it's about team work and as such, playing solo is a tedious chore.

Gamers need to be a bit more open-minded and realise that this is a spin-off. Metal Gear Rising is not a MGS game at heart but it's pretty awesome and speaking of MGR, I want a sequel already god dammit! :{

But it's the fact that we haven't had a proper Metroid game in a while. Fans are screaming out for it but Nintendo won't listen. (Probably still sore about Other M?) You would have thought that they'd make something special for the 30th anniversary...

Eurogamer reported on the Japanese launch of this game... It tanked.... hard.

The reveal for this ranks as one of the biggest disappointments I've ever seen. People teased that we might get a new Metroid, and this is what we got. It was like a monkey's paw wish.

I'll wait them to start shifting this for under a tenner. Which will happen. The game absolutely bombed in Japan.

Might want to correct the title btw ;)

The reason why they haven't released a proper Metroid is because it would require a high budget and the Wii U didn't have enough sales to warrant that. It's the same reason why Zelda was ported to NX. People need to realize that sales matter.

Could have had a proper Metroid on the 3DS...

^^^ this - a new 2D Metroid would be brilliant (Zero Mission on the GBA was a major hit at a time they were pushing 3D Metroid on the Gamecube), crisp 2D on the 3DS, a bit like Donkey Kong 3DS or a Link Between Worlds - both of which were a critical and commercial success.

Could have - should have - had Metroid Prime Hunters 2 on the DS, then the third game could have been Metroid Prime Hunters 3DS. And a couple more sidescrolling handheld Metroid games wouldn't have gone amiss either. :(

I hear you, man. Not sure where this idea came from that every game has to have multiplayer these days. Much prefer playing in isolation (Witcher, Fallout, etc). "Then, take a break and play a fun, pick-up game of Blast Ball with fellow troops." Jesus actual Christ.

'Super Metroid' flatlined in Japan. It's never been a popular franchise there.

Why are they arsing about with this? They could just redo Metroid Prime Hunters in 3D and people would probably be far happier.

IIRC it sold pretty well - I get that Japan doesn't really like Metroid but come on, even for their standards, it's pretty bad

The 3D on 3DS isn't really that big of a deal or the wow factor as it was in the beginning. 3D was a gimmick to sell the 3DS but what made it successful was the awesome library of games it has now.

Oh the numbers are bad, no doubt. A Shame, because it's a better game than that.

Super did terribly, even at a place like Super Potato you could get a sealed copy with the guide for like $10 well into the 2000s. Re-sellers will have seen to that by now, but for a long time it was the easiest Japanese SNES game to source in mint condition. I stopped collecting when my son was born, but I'd wager that it still is.

"IIRC" - JMJ1990, how old were you in 1994??

I seriously wish people would stop using the failure in Japan as a metric from Metroid fans to support their argument that this game didn't need to exist. Every single Metroid game sells horrifically in Japan, they all do, its just not a liked series there. Similarly unliked is F-Zero and Star Fox. I agree with you that we need a new Metroid game that's a proper one, but this doesn't help anyone's case.

Tell me then: why did Other M sell over 42,000 copies in Japan in its launch week? That's not a "horrific" number, is it? :{

Not really... A proper Metroid would need to be something bigger and better than the Prime games.

Not in the least - Metroid's key history, and the obvious way forward, is all about the 2D games.

Completely agree. Metroidvanias are doing well on the indie scene. I can't fathom why they've not thought to bring it home. With the Samus stuff in FF, it looks like they're going back to 'Prime' though.
