If anyone wants to save money I would recommend deleting steam and HUKD.

Steam is a web-browser like application that connects to the online Steam store.
- Install steam
- Create an account
- Purchase software
- Software is added to your library
- Install software on PC from your library
- Software is 'linked' to your account (don't loose your login details and use a strong password)
- Software is not 'linked' to hardware (you can install and re-install purchased software on any current or future PC anytime)
- Only one Steam login allowed at a time.
- A limited number of Steam accounts can be linked to share you software library with friends and family. Strictly one user at a time though so you need to take turns.
- Steam generally manages updates and patches to your software library
- Steam by default is added to your windows startup (you can disable this in your account settings)
- Steam is a community of mostly gamers. (you might want to change default assumptions in settings)
- Steam has an offline mode. Your software can run without an internet connection although it does need to connect in the first instance for new purchases.
- Launching any software purchased on Steam will launch the steam client in online or offline mode. Steam will run in the background minimised to the system tray.

In the case of YNAB you can access a registration key from the help menu. You are then free to ditch Steam if it is not to your liking. Don't loose the key. Keep proof of purchase emails to take advantage of upgrade discounts to next major version.

For those of us (probably just me lol) who don't understand what steam is, does buying it this way make any difference to buying it through the YNAB website?

Sorry to be thick, but what do you then do with the registration key, do you go to the YNAB website and enter it there? Can you then download the YNAB program as a standalone desktop app? TIA

EDIT: There's no option for a registration key in the help menu of mine.

Download the trial version from the website then you should be prompted to activate when you open it. After clicking this you can enter your registration key.
