They're giving £100 trade in value for a 3DS. Not sure how that's a rip-off.

The offers not a joke offer at all. Where can you get more then £100 trade in for a 3ds? As far as upgrading offers go this is the best around.

Seems like a good deal, hot.

£100 is quite generous for a used 3DS. Won't get that on eBay etc after all the fees

Good deal for those who want to upgrade to the XL. Heat added

Haha my i think i will stick to my normal 3ds thanks

As much as itsa good deal in the UK itself, the UK is being ripped off for the 3DS XL in general. Its $199 in US, which means it should be around £130 here. So I refuse to get a 3DS XL for that reason, plus no circle pad, so I'd have to pay for that later and would look even bigger with that on.
1 Like #11
People are asking for an extra circle pad but really how many games uses it? from the top of my head 5 games and 3 of them isn't even released yet. (Monster Hunter 3 G, Monster Hunter 4, Kingdom hearts DDD, Kid Icarus and Resident Evil Revelation). I'm not saying it shouldn't have been included but people just want an extra circle pad for the sake of just being there. As for the pricing, not sure why it's significantly cheaper in the US, does the US price not included their state tax?

Anyway the real problem when trading in your 3DS is wherever they allow you to access their store wifi (if they do have one) and transfer all your personal information and downloaded content to the new 3DS. If not then your only option is to buy the 3DS XL, transfer and hope to sell the 3DS for at least £80 which I highly doubt. I emailed gamestation about this and well...I usually don't get a reply till a week or so. In my case I can only trade it in Gamestation as I happen to have a £32 instore credit for whatever reason. I might give Gamestation a call and ask.

We get more tax on it but still doesn't equal up so im with you there

Only idiots are voting this cold. You'd be bloody lucky to get £100 for a pre-owned 3DS so to get £100 of the retail price for a 3DS XL is fantastic.

Shall be doing this when it releases.

I wonder if you have to include the AR cards when trading in? I can't seem to find mine oO

I would only do this if game let me transfer my stuff over instore. Otherwise it's pointless as I would lose all my stuff.
#17
Wont be getting one of these after getting shafted with the original 3DS pricing. Nintendo can suck my borls!

You should be used to this by now with any consoles/handhelds, if you adopt early you are bound to lose out, but the ambassador programme wasn't too bad.

Had a look around and found mine, although I'm gonna keep em if I can :p

I'm guessing GAME will let you use there WiFi to system transfer since they specifically state that you can transfer content, and how to do so on the trade in link.

Are you sure that the ones you found are yours and not mine!? Lol I never get rid of any nintendo games or hardware, so I will buy the 3ds xl and add the 3ds to my collection.

That's a little self-entitling don't you think? Higher advertising and localizing costs across the EU; the disparity between USA and UK average wages; VAT included in UK price versus sales tax in America being applied at the till (different between each state); these have to be taken in to account by Nintendo of Europe when setting the price. The real difference once VAT is removed ($199 price tag is before tax) is only about £20/$33 and the factors I've mentioned could easily explain away this difference.

Typically, neither do I. My 3DS will be the first ever hardware I trade-in/sell. It's just the fact that if I trade in my 3DS I'll be able to spend the money I would save on Kid Icarus, Super Mario 3D Land and put down a pre-order for NSMB2.

My only problem? I'm having trouble deciding on a colour lol. Red, Blue or Gray? I'm thinking of going with the Red... decisions decisions! X)

I have preordered the blue but may change it to silver. My gamestation only has the silver in store and that looks very nice. I wanna see the blue before I Buy it.

If you ask in-store I'm sure they would let you see the various colours.

This is a pretty decent deal imo considering the sorts of prices I see new 3DSes at. I'll totally be trading in this way it if I get the chance, shame so many people voted it down.
#29
I would trade in but have got another 3yrs full A/D cover on my 3DS so not willing to lose that...will just have to wait for the "next 'big' thing" (sure it won't be as BIG as the 3DS XL!!!) :-)

can someone explain how the trade in works, can you do it anytime, is there a deposit etc, how long do they take to check your 3ds?

thanks

1. Walk into Store before the deal expires
2. Tell them you want to trade in your 3ds against the 3DS XL
3. They will examine your 3ds whether its fit to trade in, so it must be in working condition with all extra items inside the box
4. Pay £80 for the new 3ds XL
5. They should allow you to transfer content as advertised, if not run!

There is no deposit required unless you want to preorder in store and use your 3ds to trade in against it

I went into my local Game store at the weekend to ask about the wi-fi transfer and they said they do not have wi-fi in their store and the manager said he was not aware of any stores that can do this. Helpfully he had no solution should I want to transfer the kid's stuff from their existing 3DS to the newer 3DS XL.

Best to go to bigger city shops, hopefully you can steal some kind of wi-fi

My son traded in his dsi yesterday and paid deposit for the xl.. Game staff tranferered his pictures to his card, but couldnt transfer any paid games (which he bought with points anyway ) over to the card, but he is thrilled with his deal, he got 65.00 for his dsi, then got rid of a ton of games he has completed and just sitting there, plus his x box, again just sits there cos he plays he ps3 and wii more... he now has a lovely amount on a gift card ready for the release date on 28th..least this will get used as he loved his dsi..and the xbox just sat there...

I would point out though, to get the best price for his dsi for xl trade instore, he has had to trade dsi in already...Store manager confirmed that as days got near to the release date trade in price will go down..

He is 12yrs old and is now on counted down for 28th, lol..

Also, they old me instore that the xl will be around 200... online there are sellnig the xl on pre-order at 174.99.. I queried this and the said that online is cheaper..they could order it via online but he wouldnt get it on release date grrrr.. not far really as he has lost out of 25.00 as he wanted it on release date...... Im secretly hoping they are wrong with the price for instore, as the said around 200.00 for console only... My son is hoping a descent bundle price, again Game instore didnt know of any bundle details currently...
#36
Well I went in my local game yesterday about trading in my DSI XL they said the trade in offer for it off £90 will still be valid on release date, but then as far as they know the 3DS XL's price is still £200 and they admitted that all the best deals are online.

Oh well thats good then, cos Manager in Colchester store told us different, hence why my son traded his dsi in yesterday... not right that best deals are online even with same company..

Hmm the same store that told me that you could do the software transfer using the SD card or even via Bluetooth (both of which I have contacted Nintendo about and they state that a wi-fi internet connection is the only way to transfer).

I think I may just do the trade-in anyway & then buy the download content again as an extra birthday present.

Surely if they have Wi-Fi they will let you use it though? It even states on the site how to transfer from a 3DS to a 3DS XL. My local GAME is always tweeting on twitter or posting on facebook so I would be surprised if they don't have WiFi. I'm popping in tomorrow to ask though.

I emailed Game UK this morning and their reply was that they did not have wi-fi in their stores and to contact Nintendo for an alternative (which there isn't one apparently). They said the only suggestion they had was to purchase a 3DS XL from Game - take it home, do the transfer there and then flog the old 3DS (which sort of negates the whole Trade-in side of things!).

Hence I will just do the Trade-in, take the loss of games & start again.
