Go to game or somewhere you can have hands on and test.
I got the 3ds then moved to the 3ds xl but found because i couldn't stick it in my pocket and does not feel as portable i used it less, I've since gone back to the 3ds now though and i use it alot more.
As far as screen goes you could easily talk yourself into pixel density or bigger screen size being being better so that's just down to opinion.

Everywhere I've seen it's basically a question of LUXURY vs. CUSTOMIZATION.

Keep in mind though that with companies like DecalGirl, customization for the XL is not exactly an impossibility.

I'd say XL any day.

Just ordered this, cheers OP! Black XL is sold out, which is surprising as I think the blue is much nicer. Combine this with the Nintendo Humble Bundle and you've got some games right off the bat!

Really looking forward to playing not just the 3DS games, but all the great DS games i've missed out on down the years. Stoked!!
