Not a bad deal.

Even though the Basic unit doesn't come with a sensor bar, the GamePad itself can act as a sensor bar as it has that functionality built in.

are these wii u consoles actually any good?

    Yes. For me.

    No. For others.

Depends whether you like the style of games you tend to get on Nintendo consoles. If you want endless FPS's, yet another FIFA, and driving games (outwith Mario Kart) you may want to look at the competition ....

Not a lot of money for a console with some great games. I'm enjoying some of the wii games I missed first time at the moment, Mario Galaxy is great! Also looking forward to the new zelda.

Yes, but remember these do not come with a classic Wii sensor bar, game tablet charging stand (just charger), standard tablet stand (admittedly a waste of time seeing you already have the charging stand) and vertical stand (obviously only needed if you intend to have your Wii U vertically).

You have to weigh in these factors, alongside the white colour before making your mind up. A 64GB USB stick is going to cost you the best part of £20...if you want a stand to rest and charge your Wii U on (advisable to stop the back getting scratched up, Wii U plastics scuff easily) you can pick up official ones for £8 on the likes of ebay, however these are only sold in black. Third party ones in white from Argos you can pick up for £7. If you want to play Wii classic games a sensor bar is needed...unless you have an existing Wii, you may as well have hunted around for deals on the premium as and when they are £180.

Well that has hit my under £150 mark!! Got a Wii in the cupboard so can just use the sensor bar etc from that. Also got lots of spare hdd's sitting around so just need an enclosure and all sorted.

Plus if it turns up quickly can get Metroid Prime Trilogy for £8.99 until 5th February nintendolife.com/new…ope

£135 plus 7.07% tcb (about £9) plus 2635 (£26.35) rakuten points to spend on something on the site means this is a stonking deal - works out to be equivalent to less than £100 for the Wii U when factoring it all in. I've bought a backup for another room as the Wii U is class, plus it's a cheap(ish) way of getting a second controller incase they do ever follow through with what they said and start releasing 2 player gamepad games. On a side note, Toad treasure tracker is highly recomeended

I'd buy if I knew for sure I'd get the points and the cashback.

Why oh why can't someone just start selling these for £100 straight up?

Nintendo land has been a joy to play with the whole family (wife included! ). So many great games for it not including the old wii classics and virtual console titles- really satisfied! I thought the game pad was going to be a bit of a gimmick but i actually really like it. Its especially useful when you want to watch tv and the kids can continue playing on that. There is a battery issue with it though - I think it only lasts a good 3 maybe 4 hours which is actually good for us because it limits how long the kids are on it! X)I read earlier today that nintendo sales really picked up and they had a good end to the year which is really encouraging for the wii u's longevity.

Glad to hear you're enjoying the Wii U

The good thing about Nintendo is they support their consoles with care and attention regardless of how well or bad its doing in the market. If you look back to the Gamecube, it suffered a similar fate to that of the Wii U but the games that came out on the GC were/are absolute classics.

The Wii U was deemed 'doomed' by the industry and Nintendo did put their hands up and admit they could have done a better job at promoting the Wii U. But Nintendo have churned out some belter of games that has taken most people by surprise and there are some brilliant games in the pipeline for this year and I know there is more to come after this year. I read today that Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said "The Wii U isn't over yet" and that there are many more unannounced games are in development...a Metroid U? F-Zero U? Animal Crossing U? oO

it works but Nintendo don't recommend it due to the read speeds. better to buy a cheap external hard drive. They recommend one with its own power supply but from everything I have read and also my own experience I think this is basically rubbish.

Don't forget the £25 back in super points you'll get due to the promotion and that makes this a no brainer.
Just bear in mind they will be credited on the 3rd Feb and must be used by the 8th. Personally this blows the ps4 and Xbox one to bits. It's actually enjoyable to play and reminds me why I first ever picked up a snes pad as a kid!

The 135 points are multiplied by 25 (upto the maximum value of 2500 which equates to £25) these points will be added to your account on the 3rd February. You will also get the original 135 points added straight away to your account

Thanks for your advice I splashed out £28 on a second hand wii. I won't feel as bad if I don't use it much with such a small investment!

Just a heads up for people.

As we didn't own the first wii, I made the rationalisation that the £169.99 bundle from Rakuten with the motion plus controller (almost £40 most places!) along with Just Dance 2014 and Nintendoland is the better option. Wanted a white also, to match with other consoles and decor!

Will be buying a few AAA Nintendo exclusives, but these two games are easily accessible family fun titles that are well worth having.

Under £18 for the motion plus controller (better than the old wii ones) and those two games can't be beaten anywhere, as far as I'm concerned. Extra controller allows 2 player action from the off, also.

    10% off= £152.99 +£1.53 super points
Created another Rakuten account= £5 super points
25x points= £25 super points (total £31.53 from this purchase. Will use this to buy either Mario 3d, Mario kart, Toad, or Bayonetta 2 depending on where the value lies next week).
    £10+ from Topcashback

I make that £142 for the Wii U, extra controller, Just Dance 2014, Nintendoland and (for arguments sake) Mario kart 8, delivered to the door. :-)

Just been shipped as I type this!

my thoughts exactly...im a mario kart girl.

    ordered amiibo peach as well

    mario kart 8 - 38.23
    Amiibo peach - 12.77

    - £5 feb code
    -£25 points
    - TCB (hopefully, worth a try)

    = £20.36....i think

    + £125.46 (price of console with TCB) + £20.36

= £145.82 for console, game and amiibo character

Same here, I've just been on the phone to them and they are trying to say exactly the same thing although I am challenging them over it. Regardless of the outcome this is going to be my last order with Rakuten as I will be closing my account with them .

Why do you say this? The basic & premium are the same except the premium had slightly more space - both run Wii games in the same way & you would need to buy a Wii remote controller & sensor bar to play Wii games anyway whichever model you get although some premium models include a sensor bar (sensor bars cost about £3 from Amazon if you need one).

Sancheez answered the question perfectly. If you like classic Nintendo franchises, like Zelda, Mario, Pikmin and Donkey Kong then it's amazing. There's new Kirby, Yoshi, Star Fox and Zelda coming out in 2015. Plus on the NIntnendo e-Shop (online store) you can download favourite from classic Nintendo home consoles and handhelds. If that doesn't get you excited, then it might not be your cup of tea. Lots of big third party developers (like Ubisoft) have since turned their back on the console, so you wont see new FIFA, GTA or Batman on Wii U any time soon.
