HTC never really seemed to crack marketing in the same way Apple and Samsung did.

Firstly, as you say, it's rare that you ever see an actual advert for an HTC device (certainly in the UK), so consumers forget that HTC even exist.

Secondly, by constantly faffing about with the naming scheme of their flagship devices (Desire HD, Sensation, One X, One M7, One M8, One M9, 10...), rather than having something easy to understand and remember (Galaxy S, S2, S3, S4, S5...etc) consumers are left not only forgetting that HTC exist, but not really understanding which HTC phone is best and which one is the direct competitor to the latest Galaxy S or iPhone.

Generally there's little wrong with the HTC's flagship products and they compare quite well to the market leaders, the problem lies with their terrible marketing strategies (or apparent total lack thereof) and the resulting consumer apathy towards the HTC brand.

If your after this phone its a good price and therefore HOT.

Personally, I'd still take the 3T.

Torn between this and graded S7 edge

Hardware is better on the S7 Edge bar the DAC. However the amount of bloatware on a Samsung phone means resetting it every 3 months and constantly being harassed. I owned and Edge but sold it. Buy this or the OnePlus 3T or iPhone. Hardware is nothing without software. HTC listened to their customers and this runs near stock android with most apps being google defaults. It even has some extra cool features like AirPlay. Shame it isn't waterproof. I've used many different versions of android and the only ones apart from stock worth it are the OnePlus variety or this phone.

Until it happens. And if it's out of warranty. Then you're in tears.

Like both me and my wife and millions others. LG left a very sour taste in my mouth as LG G4 was honestly one of the best phones I've ever owned.

I'm still rocking my HTC one m8, nearly 3 years old now and still going strong , best smartphone I've ever owned, battery life is still holding up , camera is awful , but these front facing speakers and the build quality

I've heard the last few HTC phones haven't been so good so I'd read some reviews on this before you take a punt

Gonna treat myself to a new phone this year , gonna keep my eye out for the Pixel 2 as I fancy a pure Google experience , either that or a one plus

Owned Samsung s2 many moons ago and also loved that phone but these new Samsung's don't really interest me

Camera is excellent since the nougat update, on a par with S7 but not as quick to open. Battery life gives me 5hrs 30 mins screen on time with heavy usage over 16 hrs . Can't recommend it enough, premium build , excellent software that doesn't slow over time and fantastic sound.

I've got the m8 too, its a brilliant phone. Think m9 is a miss, but heard good things about 10. I'm waiting for Nokia 8/10 or next Oneplus.

This or a OnePlus 3T for the same price would be a genuinely difficult decision...

I think the OP3T would still edge it for me for the bigger screen and extra storage, but it's damn close.

Easy solution is to install custom firmware without bloatware. Best of both worlds!

Still quite a bit of money for a phone a year old. Plus the photo on Sainsbury's website is not correct. The Glacier Silver has a white front. This has a black front, so it's a little misleading.

As commented previously, this looks/sounds a lovely handset, so much so I've one incoming via eBay, HOWEVER...

After reading more up on it since, I can't help but feel I've picked the wrong handset for myself. Wish I had spent that bit more and opted for the Google Pixel instead. Anybody up for a swap?

i had a choice between this a pixel but discounted it due to price & can't get a 128Gb one
    (i had some time with a 10 & wasn't sure about it for £479)

in the end I took risk & bought a S7 it's Slimer lighter & more pocket friendly (coming from a Z3 this was my biggest requirement)

although the price difference between them now I'd have to consider HTC 10 (_;)

Don't use his reviews as guides. Mr Mobile is a much better benchmark of real reviews. This has actually reviewed very well. The speaker config on this is still good as has a front facing speaker and sub system. Agreed maybe not as good as M8 but better then 95% of other phones.

I had no trouble disabling any bloatware and notifications. I only get notifications for things I want like emails, SMS, calls etc. Each to their own though. :)Heat for a good price on a good phone still, especially for audiophiles.

If you are used to stock android or iOS you would have! Check out all the reviewers doing 6 month to 1 years reviews. They all say the same as me and it has even put some of them off the S8 (they mention it in their reviews and yes my was the Samsung chip variety). My Nexus 6 runs better then my S7 Edge (in fact it has got better with the last two android version with Doze etc). Any person who has run a Sasmung phone after using stock or very lightly tweaked android vs Samsung bloatware would be saying the same. There are some things you just can't disable if you are using the apps like S health.

Never had any issue with them. If you'll start looking you'll find almost every single flagship phone made in 2015/2016 is having this kind of issues. Of course, LG G4 was really widespread.

And the LG G3 had the same. There's no manufacturer anywhere near the bootloop issues LG have had which is cutting because I lived the phones, will never get another now after basically losing 2 phones to the problem

£399 is too much for this phone. Superb DAC and SD820, that's about it. OnePlus 3t, Moto Z, Axon 7 and Huawei Note 8 are all better and cheaper.
  30. deleted12457's avatar
SOT = screen on time, you can check this in your battery / power settings, it's the main benchmark for your device's battery Vs efficiency, most flagships will be worse than mid level device's due to thinness and/or powerful chipsets.
Moto Z Vs Moto Z Play are very good examples of this.

Son of a ****. Just bought used albeit 'like new' condition from eBay yesterday. Granted I 'only' paid £320, but I probably would have paid this here full price for a brand spanking new phone. Let's see...

Edit: just seen this here phone is the silver colour version only. Makes me slightly less annoyed as black was a must for me.

I hear that HTC 10 has very good audio stage - does anyone know what DAC it uses?

Personally, I've switched to using Sony MRD-1000X as my daily drivers, so it's now academic as the decoding is happening in the headphones with the apt-X bluetooth signal, but I'm still intrigued as to what HTC have done with the audio stage that has granted it such a strong reputation.
