DSG have dropped the price of the Sony S to £299. I'm sure it's just coincidence that this occurred the day after the £50 off vouchers finished ;)

Available for home delivery or reserve and collect. Should also qualify for their £10 Mother's Day voucher, too.

Deal link is for Currys, links for Dixons and PC World in post one if you prefer them, but you'll get 1.51% if you go through Top Cashback.

Also available at The Carphone Warehouse, free delivery or collect in store - http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/sony-s-tablet-pc-16gb-11318187-pdt.html?srcid=369&xtor=AL-1&cmpid=aff~HotUKDeals~

Why???
He means because the ipad 2 and a half is out. For those that don't like doing everything through itunes, not expanding memory etc I hope the new ipad drives down the price of android tablets too.
#8
i got one of these can't fault it, gets ICS soon i believe ;)

I'm an Apple fan, I have the iPhone 4 and Macbook Air but when it comes to tablets, the Sony is the best even more so than the iPad 3! IMO of course ...

Doesn't need HDMI, it's DLNA enabled.

Don't know anything about this. Been waiting for this price on an iPad 2. Is this better? Expandable memory, flash player? Yes I'm lazy and the tech. garble goes right over my head.

Far better. SD card slot, micro-USB, flash-enabled, built-in IR remote, DLNA, PlayStation compatible, ICS update on the way, and, best of all - no frickin iTunes!!!

Have they changed the limited way the sd card can be used then? Could be fixed in ICS if not I guess.
Certainly see hdmi as preferable to dlna.

My Brother recently got one of these, it is nice but the Wifi is a real issue, it drops off at the drop of a hat, it causes real issues, it seems it is a known problem, but Sony have yet to fix it, even sitting 3 feet from the router still only gets you 2 bars

No it's not better. No iOS, you're very limited in good quality apps and games. I had an HTC Flyer running Honeycomb and compared to my mates iPad it was awful. I sold it in the end, nothing can compare to the quality experience available on an iPad. If I were you I'd pay an extra £30 and get an iPad.

Seriously, if you buy an Android tablet you will regret it. I felt sick with regret after I bought mine, I hate that feeling.

I'm sorry, but you really shouldn't tar all android handsets with the same brush. I agree there is no doubt that for SOME people iPad (1, 2, new or whatever!) is the pinnacle, and yes it is very user friendly, but to a more adventurous user Android based devices offer a lot of scope for experimenting and customization beyond anything you could do on an iDevice. Also, there are probably more free apps on android than iOS!

BTW The Flyer is rubbish though ;)

If you are in the market for a tablet you could do a lot worse than this or the iPad 2 for a similar price, just have some hands on time with both before you take the plunge. I personally like the S tab, the shape is interesting and comfortable to hold, it is perhaps a bit of a shame it doesn't have the same premium feel of other tablets though

You sir are the definition of a fanboy & should just go join the inevitable long queue outside your nearest apple store now, out of harms way.

There are more apps for Android but they are all third rate.

The best thing I found about an Android tab was that I could run a torrent program. I'd get an Android tablet over an iPad because of the freedom but the applications and games that are available are just awful or nowhere near as polished as their iPad counterparts. I remember when I chose an HTC Desire over an iPhone. I tried to justify my choice for ages but in the end I conceded and joined the flock.

better sitck your cash with iPad 2 unless you want better camera LOL

As to being a fanboy, I'd say that is probably true. I have tried the alternatives though and supported Android right from the get go. Unfortunately for me there is just no comparison. Fanboy or not I will always be a fan of the product which I find the best. I mean why wouldn't you be?

But thanks "unquestioned" you're a true troll.

I'm a fanboy of neither. I bought the other half an S, it's definitely the comfiest tablet I've held & the best android one I played around with before buying it. Had plenty of use of ipads but never got on with the ios.

Personally, I'm waiting for a windows tablet using the same layout as wp7.

Android tabs are gonna have to be cheaper than this to stand even the slightest chance against Apple. I have a Xoom and an iPad 2 and the iPad is a much 'nicer' experience. The Xoom is more flexible of course but it also weighs a ton!
#25
got it, very happy with it. no wifi problems.
havent needed to use usb card for memory yet.
have rooted it.
+1 for design

Looking for a decent tab and something like this would do. Am not a fanboy of android, just a hater of Apple. iTunes is like a virus the way it forces you to do what it wants. Very sorry but I will NEVER use or own anything Apple. Oh and I have HAD to use them plenty as my other half has a macbook air, iphone 4S and iPad 2. Horrible, stupid and so restrictive. Everytime they crash or cock-up it's me that gets lumbered trying to fix them for her. Love my Sony Android phone and never had any trouble with it. This tab with DNLA would be ideal for me as I have quite a lot of movies and music on my home server that to watch/listen to with the PS3.

Just out of curiosity, why do you specifically go for RoBad as being a fanboy? His preference is to Apple, because he prefers Apple.

The comment he was commenting on, by No8 was just as much against the iPad and for Android, as RoBad was against Android and for Apple, yet you specifically targeted your comment at RoBad?

Does that make you "the definition of an" Apple hater or "the definition of" an Android fanboy? (_;)

Each to their own, both have advantages over each other and I personally like and own both Apple and Android. :p

Build materials on this is shocking. When are Sony going to stop using cheap plastic.

Android is great.
itunes is horrible.
But android doesn't have a killer tablet yet.
Android have only just managed to get a killer phone in the s2 recently.
They are not there just yet With tablets.

I have the Sony and that is a great price for a superb bit of kit. Apple fanboyz don't listen and converts enjoy the easy life. I have no issues with it whatsoever. I'm an IT contractor and also use it as tool. Can do so much with it that you could never do on a Apple.
#33
I thought that the casing was really cheap and plastic although the xoom is heavy and the screen may not be as good (matter of opinion)
#34
I was surprised how cheap and plasticy these are in the flash, doesn't feel very 'Sony' though the shape is comfy.
#35
Great price, even better tablet. But take this to john lewis or sony centre and get a two year warranty. Avoid DSG like the plague.
#36
Picked up one of these before Xmas at this price, very happy with it. Just waiting for the Sky Go app then it will have everything an iPad can do and more. Agree that some Android apps are rubbish, but having Flash, USB port, SD memory etc more than makes up for it.

Wow. I have had a macbook air for a year now. It has NEVER crashed. Not once. Never even looked like crashing. I don't think it knows what crash means. I have no antivirus software slowing it down - and as far as I'm aware, I don't need any. No viruses and no crashing.

And exactly what do you have to do for your other half when all her terrible apple stuff crashes? Turn it off and on again? You hero.

I'll no doubt be labelled a 'fanboy' in my leap to Apple's defence here, but this site is about helping others out, not to spread misinformation.

at £1500 was my macbook air significantly overpriced for what it offers over a similarly priced windows laptop? Absolutely 100% undeniably yes.

Is it however by far the most stable laptop/computer I have ever used, and been an absolute joy to use? 100% yes.

Ipad (new) is a killer compared to these....need some serious price reductions to beat the 16gb New Ipad....Cool on that basis.
