This Favorina (LIDL) Finest Marzipan Stollen (pronounced 'shtollen'), with sultanas and hazelnuts, is a rich and sticky fruit bread, laced with marzipan and doused in icing sugar.
Its origins can be traced back to the Middle Ages when it was baked to celebrate the lifting of a ban on butter in Advent (the only fat that bakers had been able to use previously was turnip oil)

Heat it up and serve with custard. That will also make it easier to eat a whole one.

If you have never tried German Christmas cake, you NEED to! I had it when I was in Year 8 at school when I was learning about German Christmas traditions. So good!

Went in there last December to get a couple and there was no sign of any whatsoever. Not happy (still bought the country's cheapest crayfish tails though...)
