Racist, loudmouth, whining 12 year old Americans that love the sound of their own voice. Cheaters, 'hackers' and people that think they're better than you for some reason and make excuses as to why you beat them. Just all round nob heads really. That's what the community is like.

I chose PS+ over wasting my money on my Xbox because it offers a game … I chose PS+ over wasting my money on my Xbox because it offers a game rental service, I didn't even have to opt for that, I can quite happily play games online without PS+...Microsoft have shackled everything about being a silver member on the Xbox 360.The downtime was 2 years ago now due to the hack, apart from the infrequent inconvenience of scheduled maintenance (a few hours) I would sooner have that than having to pay.PSN is a better service, it offers more for FREE (online gaming and paid subscription streaming for the likes of Netflix and Lovefilm), it offers games rental for money aka PS+ should you choose.

Both services have their advantages and disadvantages, but you can't just state that PSN is a better service like it's some kind of fact. That's merely your opinion and the fact that there will never be cross-game chat on PS3, something 360 has been doing for years now, already gives a serious argument against that opinion. Party chat has become a hugely valuable feature to gamers who like to be able to congregate while playing XBox, even if they're not playing together.

Quite frankly, I believe the only reason Sony haven't charged for PSN is because they know how Live would suddenly become the superior service in comparison and at the time, PS3 was flagging behind 360 and needed something to give it a kick up the rear. I'd go as far as to say the free service is the primary reason PS3 was actually a contender in the 'console war' (cringe) this gen. I'm also interested to see how much Sony can keep free with the PS4- I suspect that with the massive increase in bandwidth that will be needed to support these new cloud features, that some form of further monetisation will be introduced. In saying that, I also feel MS need to start offering better value for money with Live Gold next gen.

Yeah you've just got to ignore those people, or, if you're feeling adventurous troll them back. Insults don't work against them, only annoying or confusing trolling, as it hurts their brains.

For instance: my brother lost 4-0 on Fifa, playing Ultra Defensive (as was his style at the time) and the victor sent him a message reading "ultra d[efensive] fag". No more, no less. The best replies in those kind of situation are those like: "Thanks friend. You really played well in that game, and I enjoyed myself lots. Hope that we can play again soon!". I find they work against such people best. Either that or pretend to be a girl, or something (_;)

Hacking is actually a lot more prevalent on Xbox than Playstation Sony took incredible abuse for their much publicised hack but passwords that were accessed were all encrypted as was credit card details. There has not been a single case of credit card fraud resulting from the hack. In contrast Xbox Live hacking has never been so widespread yet strangely MS don't receive any where near the bad PR Sony got. engadget.com/201…ed/

I'm sorry, these two isolated cases actually constitute 'prevalent'? That one with the individual who had been 'hacked' strikes me as being far more likely as being a victim of phishing. Her e-mail and password were most likely obtained elsewhere (probably some stupid password like '1234' too), enabling access to the XBL account which is tied to the Paypal account. I don't believe any 'hacking' even went on in that case.

The execs case also appears to focus on login details that were stolen elsewhere. Both cases are certainly different to what actually happened in the PSN case (in as much as nobody has hacked into XBox Live to steal these account details, as happened with PSN), and definitely not cause to claim its prevalent. Poor understanding of what hacking actually is, is the problem here.

You're voting cold on the cost of the service and that you feel it should be £15 a year. But the service is £39.99 a year regardless of how much you feel is it worth and the fact that we can get it for just over £25 is a damn good deal!!

scotia2 - Xbox live will continue, that's why there are 2 versions due for launch, one subsidised requiring a 2 year xbox live membership commitment.

I am an Xbox user and don't knock the PS3 - they're both good units - but both in need of updating with the improvements in technology. I know a lot of hardcore gamers who have brought the PS3, only to send it back a week later and visa-versa too.

I know a few people brought the PS3 not because it may or may not be better, but because there is not a live membership requirement and it has the Blu ray player.

As a PS3 and launch 360 owner, my Live subscription ran out back in January. I simply cannot justify spending money to play online anymore, especially when Microsoft have very few exclusive games anymore.

Whilst it is true that Live offers more functionality than PS+ (ie party chat), Microsoft simply cannot compete with the outstanding value that PS+ offers in the way of free games.

When it comes between extra functionality or free games, I'm going to choose free games every time. Every year Live gets less and less appealing as the competitions services get better and better - IMO!

If Valve can provide cloud features and online play free of charge then I … If Valve can provide cloud features and online play free of charge then I see no reason why the console manufacturers can't do the same to be honest. The Live Gold subscription fee was an attempt by Microsoft to recuperate some of it's investment capital back in 2001 and has stuck for the last 12 years only because people still seem to be willing to pay for it. PSN is taken down for maintenance far too often and is an inferior service in terms of usability and security but at the same time PS+ wipes the floor with anything that Microsoft have done for the last few years in my opinion. I'm definitely no PlayStation fanboy but I think unless Microsoft have some decent exclusives to announce next Tuesday night, the Xbox-brand may have had it's day. They can only keep piggy-backing on the success of Activision for so long.

When I refer to cloud features, I was talking about things such as the live streaming and uploading of video content. This will of course depend on whether this traffic goes via PSN (as it would on XBox Live), and be much less of a concern if it was directly to the hosting/broadcasting sites. Whatever the case, it's going to mean a huge increase in traffic- especially if the service is free. We all know how much the kiddywinks love uploading their vids of COD etc...

The Gold service has significantly decreased in value since they dropped their own original content such as Inside XBox and that Q&A show they did (the name eludes me). They cut costs there and instead brag about apps linking to external content that they've not paid to produce! It is definitely harder to justify the price of Gold these days, but there's no denying the vast number of people seemingly willing to pay for it- and outside of HUKD, I see an alarming number of people who actually pay the full £39.99 each year As much as MS love their CoD DLC exclusivity deal, it is not of any value to me as I can't stand the series. Even if I was a fan, it would be of no benefit to me to have them before PS users as I get nothing out of 'bragging rights'. While I'd disagree that the XBox brand may have had it's day, whatever they reveal next week, the jury is absolutely out for me in terms of my next gen console, despite my preference for XBox over the last decade.

Fair point, I guess as I have never liked talking to pre-pubescent gamers … Fair point, I guess as I have never liked talking to pre-pubescent gamers screaming down their headsets I have never missed this ;-)

I've never found that issue to be a problem, as you can just mute anybody who annoys you. As someone who doesn't play CoD though and rarely goes near Halo anymore, I don't find it to be much of an issue full-stop! Your point is valid though and there should be a need to demonstrate your age next-gen, so that we can have filters to opt-out of playing with anyone who isn't verified 18 or over!

    cicobuff

I am more concerned and less interested in the next gen Xbox, developers … I am more concerned and less interested in the next gen Xbox, developers are already very keenly interested in the PS4 due to its architecture and is attracting independent games as well as obviously the wealth of 1st party developers to add to the many multiplatform studios. Microsoft better have a strong unique selling point with the next gen Xbox...Halo is failing to cut it.

It's tough to speculate until at least next Tuesday, but a lot of those arguments were made about the PS3- architecture aside. It certainly wasn't enough to propel it leaps and bounds beyond XBox (in my eyes, at least). The architecture thing was never an issue for devs on 360 (I think that so much was made of it in the PS4 reveal to allay any hungover concerns from PS3) and I presume they will have accounted for that with the new console too.

To be quite honest, I think the PS3 has generally been positioned to be superior but it simply hasn't happened for some reason and it's been a fairly even contest this gen. I am concerned that MS are going to be more concerned with the media side of things than gaming. If they are going to pin much of their hopes on all this TV stuff, it will be a discouraging move. Every single app and non-game feature of the 360 has been something I've found much easier to do on my PC, which is also hooked up to the TV. Unless they are going to offer me the kind of content Sky can offer, but for a better price, then I have absolutely zero interest in anything of that type which they have to demonstrate next week.

Oh and to comment on what you said to someone else about Rare- they have been a completely pointless acquisition for MS. They've produced nothing that lives up their former reputation and they inspire zero enthusiasm in me as things stand. Tell a lie, Viva Pináta showed promised- but it just isn't enough.

To be honest, with a renewed focus on Kinect with this updated, … To be honest, with a renewed focus on Kinect with this updated, supposedly mandatory version, I do fear for what we're going to see in it's future. Kinect turned out to be, as I expected, 95% crap games with almost no titles that delivered on their vision for it.

Pretty much the same with the PS Move controller too, it can have its uses in FPS but it has never shown much potential, shame really that Rare Ltd's main focus now is on Kinect and yet they have only had one title out "Kinect Sports" which was average.

It most certainly is going to be interesting next week whether Microsoft just give the tech specs of the next gen Xbox or whether they will reel off some first party games in development, although I won't hold my breath.
