Apparently Sony are running an exchange program for faulty PSP and PS3s. Even if it's out of warranty [Edit: May not work if they ask and you remember buying it more than a year ago....], as long as the warranty sticker is intact (you haven't opened the case to fiddle with the insides) and you've got the battery and charger then they'll send out a refurbished one via parcelforce and pick up your dud one to take back. This is all free of charge (less the phone call). It's said this even covers broken screens.
I noticed this while surfing eBay and noticed lots of people selling this info for anywhere between a couple of quid and twenty. After digging around a bit I found this handy info from a concerned eBay member..... http://reviews.ebay.co.uk/PSP-AND-PS3-REPAIR-SCAM-RIP-OFF_W0QQugidZ10000000004878687
Sony's number for this is 08705 998877, or try the cheaper geographic number 01923 653598.

Unless the service has changed since 1996:whistling:

Maybe you could flash it with an official upgrade 2.80 or something :whistling:

The way I read it is that the selling of the information is a rip-off, he is saying its information that shouldn't be sold and that people should ring sony themselves on the number.

Did you not care to read the post? He says the scam is ebay letting people sell info, when all it takes is a phone call to sony!

Hot info, thanks

Has anyone used the number? Plenty of bricked PSP's on ebay, you could make a mint?
#14
Apparently I missed a 7 off the end of the number I first posted - sorry! Eagle eyed poster Nightshade at MSE put me right. I've corrected it now.

Thanks for that, will add to original post.

I'm not convinced about this. But I'm happy to be proved wrong. If it's too good to be true, it generally is. There is nothing in it for Sony to send you a new/refurb machine out of warranty. If all companies did this, then they would soon go bust - buy a product and it lasts a lifetime? Hm. But like I said, if anyone has any success, I'll be happy as I have a PSP and a PS3.

Besides, they offer a paid subscription service called "Continuous Play", which is exactly what you are describing but not free. It doesn't add up. http://www.continuousplay.co.uk/

Just Rang the landline number for Sony and they will be exchanging my faulty PSP with a refurbished one on Monday. Excellent. Great Post.

i had a refurbished model sent to me next day after my psp went tits up a couple of months back. was free. they deliver the replacement and pick up the faulty at the same time to save time. was really impressed with the service. they asked for serial number etc so they could give me an exact model replacement too. voted as hot as i can. o btw it was 11 months into the year warranty.
#21
Have edited post to reflect possible warranty problem. Thanks for the info Ace, did they ask for any supporting paperwork (proof of purchase etc?) or was it just the psp, charger and battery they wanted?
#22
noi just the psp unit, nothing with it, no proof of purchase, just asked me on phone how long i had it, asked for serial number and a lil number near that which was the model number. so yea, hope that helps.
#23
Yea my m8 did this ages ago for a broken screen and received one. think it was referbed rather than new still gd thou
didnt have proof of purchase of warrenty
#24

Is yours less than a year old?

I cant find my receipt, although I am sure its still less than 12 months old. They asked for serial and model numbers. I told them I had lost receipt and he just asked which month i had bought it in.

I've just phoned them up and told them that I've got a psp that just won't turn on at all (haven't really got one, but thought I'd buy a faulty one off fleabay if this works).
To cut a long story short, if it's outside the 12 month warranty it will cost £65 to exchange.
IF IT'S OUT OF WARRANTY IT IS NOT FREE

He's right, I've just rung up.
#27
Can anyone tell me how long the 40gb versions have been avaliable?
Basically have they been out for under a year?

If so, might try and pick up a faulty one on ebay and get a replacement.
#28
1st post ever !!! have phoned up up.- flea bay scam i thinks.
#29
Do they need the charger and battery?
#30
it doesn't matter if you have had it longer than 12 months, just give them a date that is within 12 months and that fine. I've tired it.

Just make up a date.

Do they need the charger and battery?

Yes , they do. They will give you a psp, battery and charger and want the same in return.
#32
its almost worth geting a broken one and trying to blag it with sony.

Do they need the charger and battery?

Just the psp and battery
#34
Stilll not certain this will work. I dont have anything to phone them up about but there's some of you that say this works and then others saying it doesn't. Does this work or not ?
#35
They've been out 3 months, so i doubt anyone will be selling a faulty one.
#36
Done this on thursday as the psp slim we got had a small problem received a brand new one yesterday Tuesday the psp we sent back was only a month into warranty though.

You are right, but with this there is something in it for Sony. What can you do with a broken PSP? Nothing. What can you do with a working one? Buy many games that make Sony £££. As is common knowledge, consoles are sold at a loss, as the games make them the wedge, so with that in mind, this scheme is logical

Dude it's like this - Sony gives you the new (refurbished) product because they fix your old ones and hand them on to someone else.....
You love your new(refurbished) product and go out and buy new games etc...

Sony make you happy - You buy games, makes Sony happy :whistling:

:xthis is my first time here. i rang sony and after a bit of a wait on hold, i spoke to sony rep who told me yes any problems due to workmanship etc were indeed able to issue a free brand new psp/ps2, but NOT damaged screens etc,so yes there is a charge of £65, but for that you do get a brand new psp, but you must have psp, charger and batt, and it must have been bourght in the uk or euroland
