One of the most respected players in the world of enterprise-grade backup programs is Veeam. The company has recently announced a completely free version of its software, designed to back up individual PCs running Windows 7 or later.

You'll find the program at veeam.com/end…tml if you want to download it. Note that the installer runs to around 200 MB, so it's not a small file. It also works best if you have a reasonably fast computer, as this is a very powerful (although easy to use) product.

You can back up individual files or folders to an external USB drive or a separate NAS-type storage system. You can also back up to another part of your existing PC, but it's not recommended for obvious reasons (if your PC dies, so does your backup).

You can also back up your entire PC, and then create a bootable recovery disk. You can then restore the backup, even to a machine that has no operating system, by booting from the recovery disk and then proceeding with the remainder of the restore process.

"Veam Endpoint Backup Free" is a really nice product that's easy to use, and free of charge. If you're serious about backing up your computer, it's worth checking out

That's likely due to Veeam being more of an enterprise level product.

The words "client" and "enterprise" need to be wiped from the English language. I cringe every time someone says them in some authoritative tone like they actually add anything to the words "customer" and "company".

this is a HUGE download, and installs a lot of applications on your computer, I think when I tried it that it installed an MS SQL database server.
you have to give them an email address to register and receive a key, and they will then email you persistently.

overall then, I'd recommend against using this unless you're sure it's really what you want.

I tried because I wanted to back up virtual machines set up on VMWare ESXi (free), but it failed because I didn't have a specific feature on my ESXi server enabled, which I'd have had to pay for.

Just thought i want to share, I work in IT and use this to backup my laptop. It's fast and and very simple to use. I understand people may have their own preference, Veeam is my preferred choice at the moment and NO i don't work for them :-)
Thanks and keep your data safe.

    Veeam Frequently Asked Questions

Can Veeam Endpoint Backup FREE be used to back up physical servers? Can it be used as an enterprise physical server backup tool?
Customers can use Veeam Endpoint Backup FREE to back up those few remaining physical Windows servers in their environment. Veeam Endpoint Backup FREE does not scale beyond a few servers, however, and does not implement server-specific backup features (e.g., Veeam advanced application-aware processing, support for server clusters, etc.).

Can Veeam Endpoint Backup FREE create application-consistent backups of my computer?
Yes, Veeam Endpoint Backup FREE integrates with Microsoft VSS to provide application-level and file system level consistency.

Is Veeam Endpoint Backup FREE part of Veeam Backup & Replication or Veeam Availability Suite?
No, while Veeam Endpoint Backup FREE optionally integrates with the Veeam Backup & Replication, it is a separate FREE product that does not require the purchase of any other Veeam products to work.

Can Veeam Endpoint Backup FREE be used to back up phones, tablets, or other mobile devices?
Veeam Endpoint Backup is intended for x86 Windows-based desktops, laptops and tablets only.

According to this policy, Veeam will attempt to provide support for users of Veeam Endpoint Backup FREE, however, Veeam does not provide response goals or response guarantees for this service.
However, we highly encourage all users to submit any issues they face with as much details as possible through the support issue submission system built into the product. All submitted issues will be carefully investigated and addressed in the following product updates.

What if I have an issue with Veeam Backup & Replication integration functionality?

If during the investigation, the issue is found to be specific to Veeam Endpoint Backup FREE, your support case will be transferred into the free products support queue.

+1 - When I was running my own company, my various clients used to use their products quite extensively especially on the virtual machine side (VMware based solutions) - fast, reliable and pretty stable products from what I can remember about them.

Are you sure you are not confusing this with Veeam Backup and Replication (the full product). This is for backing up physicals mainly but it does install a lightweight database I think (not full SQL express). I've used it before and for what it does it's great. Hot from me.

Meh Veeam. Marketing blurb is as usual a load of waffle. This won't be home user friendly as it requires a dedicated back-up host with another back-up solution hanging off the back of it as another poster pointed out it uses a database to store the back-up info so you need to make sure you don't lose that to get your back-ups.
