“We have a great hook: run away from zombies in the real world and get fit. But it’s not really easy to convey that on the App Store. What we really need to get people to do is just try it,” says Hon.
“Something like 15-20% of the players who have ever bought the app over the last three years are still playing it,” says Hon, who admits he wasn’t sure whether that was a good or bad thing until he met people in Silicon Valley who were impressed by the game’s retention rate.
Get ready for the run of your life. Join 1,000,000+ runners on an epic adventure!
You tie your shoes, put on your headphones, take your first steps outside. You’ve barely covered 100 yards when you hear them. They must be close. You can hear every guttural breath, every rattling groan - they’re everywhere. Zombies. There’s only one thing you can do: Run!
Zombies, Run! is an ultra-immersive running game and audio adventure, co-created with award-winning novelist Naomi Alderman. Every run becomes a mission where you’re the hero, with our immersive audio drama putting you at the centre of your very own zombie adventure story. While you run to the perfect mix of heart-pumping audio drama and pulse-pounding songs from your own playlist, you’ll collect supplies to grow your base back home.
BBC NEWS - “The only way to save yourself is to run for real.”
WIRED - “In the style of Runkeeper, with an exciting undead twist.”
LIFEHACKER - “A really cool way to get outside and exercise.”
CNN - “Turns exercise into a game - a terrifying, terrifying game.”
TIME - "Takes all the fun of a zombie game and funnels it into a fitness app."
WHAT PLAYERS SAY:
“Evaded all zombie mobs :-) One of my best sprints ever; this app works!”
“This game will make you sweat. Perfect junction between game design and run tracker.”
“Just tried @zombiesrungame and for the first time in my life I feel truly alive.”

You can download the missions over wifi, then data use is low to none.
its says it becomes free later today
Thanks for this.
From the developers site:
You don’t need any kind of cellular data to play Zombies, Run! - and since GPS doesn’t require a data connection, you’ll still be able to track your runs as well! You might want to connect to wifi occasionally to sync your data with the web though.
(Post was from 2012 though, so not certain if information is accurate for newest version)
Yes indeed, the Pro Membership costs £2.29 / $2.99 a month. Or you can choose to pay £14.99 / $19.99 a year for it.
Not a ridiculous amount I don't think if you are someone who makes good use of the app.
But otherwise for free you get the first four story missions, and can unlock a new mission for free every week. This will probably be enough for most users, to at least try out.
New version should become available at some point today, the Play Store usually takes slightly longer than the App Store before the new updates show up.
great ! already use and love this app but seasons 2 and 3 are £6ish EACH so never been tempted to get them, but if android's switch to freemium matches istores existing users get it for free ! game still seems to be £3 on play store - might be worth buying now as you seem to get all 3 current seasons with freemium but the season 4/premium sub is less than half the price.
love the sound of the changes too - improved base building, support for external music players, adjustable intervals between story clips and plenty of ways of tweaking zombie chases.
Thanx for that heads up .. I did kinda wonder bout this too mind ..... lol. :-)
A bum steer maybe !

Freemium.... heart sank

tad disappointing this new direction doesn't seem to be compatible with the old but it's a great app and if i get it working i'll update this post.
edit - blog.zombiesrungame.com/pos…and
android users need to install new free app but if they had the paid version of the app before may they get everything a premium subscriber would get except all s4 missions.

i can only answer for old paid app (v.3) but topleft there is a menu button, you choose mode (e.g.story, airdrop) there then menu gives you the option of downloading audio before you play the mission.
from the above link i posted
unfortunately my old Z!R3 app (which still works) shows older paid content as still locked as i never bought it (even with zombielink account linked to both apps). to unlock everything prior to s4 on new app you need to have old app installed then click menu > membership > restore membership. it'll update your old ZR (which it says to keep installed for some reason) but allow you to do any race/mission/etc.
