Most of Scotland does not have gas, BT might have a universal obligation but Scottish Gas Networks charge by the distance, even the be$t madame could not afford a 8 inch pipe connection never mind 8/80/800/8000 metres X)

Scottish & Southern area charges PDFs (new builds are double the price for half the standard length of 40m)

A village near the Cornish coast. It's a small trade off imo. And we've no space for a giant oil thingamywatsit outside so leccy it is

Calor etc do a "bury it under the ground" tank, if you are lucky they may accidentally place it ontop of your other half and the life insurance will pay for a gas pipe ;) networked gas is so much cheaper than LPG deliveries!

I wouldn't call it a box set - I would call it a triple album/CD.

Either way, it's a fantastic listen (especially for those who couldn't get to see it - I couldn't), and I just wish Kate had been happy enough with the video recorded from the shows to release them as a DVD/Blu-Ray. But she wasn't so we need to be happy with the audio.

"Response time 6.5 milliseconds."
This cant be true? Samsung 4K tvs are regarded as having the best response time and that is around 18ms or so.
That's pixel response time, the time it takes for a pixel to change to the requested colour. What your talking about is input lag how long it takes for the tv to display an an image received from a games console typically. If you share 1000 by 60 that gives you about 16.6ms or similar so a tv has to have a pixel response of a maximum of 16.6ms to create 60 frames per second image (60hz) or about 8.3ms for 120 frames per second (120Hz). For all we know this tv could have an input lag of 120ms as pixel response and input lag are not directly related. With a single core cpu on the logic board it could be bad for input lag but the complete absense of smart features which consume cpu performance means that definitely doesn't have to be the case. My Vestel based tv is 31ms in game mode and it has a quad core logic board but has a lot of smart features and additional functionality including bluetooth, wireless display, apps etc, a lot of background tasks basically.

I see. Thanks.

The current Bush TV's seem to be getting really poor reviews! Best off putting money towards something better I'd say...

The reviews on the Argos site look pretty good as an average.

http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Browse?s=Relevance&storeId=10151&langId=110&catalogId=25051&mRR=true&c_1=1%7Ccategory_root%7CTechnology%7C33006169&c_2=2%7C33006169%7CTelevisions%20and%20accessories%7C33008651&c_3=3%7Ccat_33008651%7CTelevisions%7C33017148&r_001=1%7CBrands%7CBush%7C1

Right, after taking out the stylus on this I noticed how rubbish it was, I also noticed that the turntable wasn't spinning flat . . . So maybe I got a dodgy one?
Yes the build quality is rubbish on them but so are all the other portable turntables.
I returned mine and got a full refund and ordered the ION from Wilko's which I picked up today and I must say how impressed I am with it, not only is the build quality much better, but the arm is much gentler and although the stylus looks the same it is a lot better made (and straight), also the turntable spins flat and doesn't make me feel seasick (it also has a felt clip pad on there so not to scratch the other side of your vinyl.
I'm not saying the ION is brilliant, but it is miles better than the Bush.
Only wanted something to play vinyl on in the kitchen (and not my best vinyl either), but this also allows me to copy the vinyl to my computer . . . So win win . . . . (I'll brace myself for all the haters and the people that have thousands to spend on a deck)

Am I missing something?

I don't think so. I guess some people care about their old vinyls more than others.

My original point would still stand if they did care about them. You're different and that's fair enough.

To digitise them
So you'd either
1. Go out and buy records, to digitise them? (Unlikely)
2. Take your old collection and digitise it? Understandable, but if they're old do you really want to ruin them?
Just trying to understand the logic!

I have a load of old 7 and 12" singles that I wanted to hear again (mainly for some obscure b sides), but once I digitised them I couldn't care less about whether or not the vinyl was "ruined" - a moot point though, as one play through would hardly be enough to ruin them.

I don't see how its that hard to understand. Am I missing something?

The TV is the same old about 50" Vestel that has been £270-£300 with different branding for most of the year. Not a deal.
Hmmm do you or anyone have a recommendation for a better quality 49 inch ish Tv for £300 max? There is the Blaupunkt on Amazon for £260 but again people question the quality...
Of course a large TV for under £300 is going to have questionable quality. The cheapest route you can take for a degree of quality is Hisense, obviously LG, Samsung and Sony are better again, but costlier.
Exactly. All UHD TV's at approx £300 this year have all been variations on the 2015 or 2016 model Vestel to the best of my recollection. All have short warranties, some good reviews and some bad reviews, with a lot of variation in quality between individual devices.
Bizzarely, the masses will trust a Polaroid from Asda over a Hisense!!

Not as bizzare as you think as you only have to look here to see some Polaroid reviews.

http://www.whathifi.com/products/polaroid/tvs

On the same site the hisense models score lower.

The Which consumer group (I know they are a bit crap) have warnings on some Hisense models saying 'DO NOT BUY'.

I think case materials are great quality and they have decent calibration options but from what I've seen their reliability certainly isn't class leading.

According to Which's reliability survey. The top three tv brands for reliability are; 1. Panasonic, 2. Sony and 3. LG.

I had a Polaroid tv in the past a LCD 42" passive 3D set and it was brilliant. Loved it although the screen size was a little small. I sold it on and the people who bought it through ebay left very positive feedback about the tv. It really was great but I wanted to upgrade to a bigger screen. No question a budget set but the LG panel really delivered a great image especially 3D. The active 3D tv's looked massively inferior and inconvenient and you could watch 3D for hours without issue including long gaming sessions. The CCFL backlighting just looked so much more natural than some of the LED backlight models that came shortly after even from top brands. I just steered clear of its own SD only freeview tuner.

Don't get me wrong though I have aspirations on a LG OLED tv.
Only 9 left we just bought one, bearings gone on our current machine, was going to cost £50 for bearings plus fitting, not bad for 150 squid!

Lol, your vinyl expert friend says "really don't buy" dusty records? Why wouldn't you buy dusty records exactly?
1) how would someone who has just bought a suitcase-type record player be expected to know how to safely clean a dirty record? A quick spray of Stardrops perhaps?
2) An inferior player will ruin the record groove and this can cause the record to be gritty/dusty etc. If the records in the charity shop came from a Crosley owner then they will be wrecked.
Perhaps he should have said "Don't buy dusty records unless you have some sensible way of cleaning them".
I have no need to clean my Dusty records, but I know how.
For the benefit of the paranoid amongst us I have posted a screencap of the start of the Which? review. Hope it works.

Look folks it's really simple, it's a cheap record player use it with cheap records. If you decide you like vinyl invest in some decent kit to get the best out of your records. It doesn't have to cost a fortune, amps can be had for around £20-30 used, turntables can be found for roughly the same price and speakers too. I recently missed out on a full Kenwood seperates system for the princely sum of £40 .

Were have you seen turntables for this price, cheap old amps and speakers yes, but even the humble Garrard SP25 fetches almost 3 figures in case and lid. I'm looking at a set up now, cheapest new one I can find of any quality is £230 for turntable, £175 / £250 amp and £ 200 for speakers and stand, plus £25 speaker cable. Not cheap, is making me think again

The Which? review...
Bush Classic Turntable (PHK-M41)
Which? score: 30%
DON'T BUY
Price: £40
Which? verdict:A total disaster 30%
TESTED 31 AUGUST 2016
The Bush Classic Turntable is a retro-looking record player that looks very similar to the popular 'suitcase' models from Crosley and GPO. You can either connect it up to your hi-fi system or play music through the built-in speakers, but what does it actually sound like? Read on to find out how it scores compared with other record players.
PROS Not much
CONS Poor build quality, awful sound
The Bush Classic Turntable is a pretty dire record player. It may look fashionable, but sound quality is dreadful and it's a bit awkward to use, too. There aren't many plus points for this player, so we have no choice but to make it a Don't Buy.
What is it?
An entry-level record player designed with fashion in mind. The folding wooden suitcase design includes built-in speakers and will play records at 78rpm as well as the more common 33rpm and 45 rpm speeds. It also has a built-in preamp, so you'll be able to plug it straight into any hi-fi amp.
What's the sound like?
Terrible.
Our experts described the sound as 'utterly useless', with a complete lack of low bass frequencies, unstable pitch that gives music a warbling quality, and a worrying background hum. There's also a lack of treble, so it's hard to make out details in the sound. What's left is a messy, harsh and screechy sound that's just unpleasant to listen to.
What's it like to use?
The instruction manual isn't hard to understand, and playing records is pretty straightforward. However, the plastic tone arm is wobbly and hard to place onto the record gently.
There's a semi-automatic operation - the record automatically starts spinning when you lift the tone arm away from its rest, and stops again when you replace the tone arm. This makes things simple, but controls such as the speed selector switch are small and awkwardly placed.
Is there anything I should watch out for?
With its folding design, this player claims to be portable, but watch out - there's no way to use it without plugging it into the mains. Having said that, the sound quality on this player is so bad you might be better off using it unplugged.
You can't remove the cartridge or adjust its alignment, but you can replace the stylus if it wears out. We'd be impressed if anyone could listen for that long, though.
Is there anything else I should know?
There's a headphone socket for those late-night listening sessions, or when the people around you can't take any more of this player's racket.
Should I buy it?
No way. This is a terrible record player that'll make your favourite albums sound like a flock of angry ducks.
Do you have a link to the original article that you appear to be quoting from???
Not difficult to find with a quick google of the first two lines of the quote:"Bush Classic Turntable (PHK-M41) Which? score: 30%"
Will point you toward THIS. You'll need an account to view Which? reviews.
So without an account we simply have your word for it that this was published by Which? hmmm
My word? I didn't post the review.
Then please do not quote from something you have not verified, very irresponsible ;) and it just keeps getting votes, must be terrible infuriating ;)
I don't need to verify the quote, it's from Which?. As to the votes, as I've stated previously, I've bought this product, why would I give a monkey's about the votes either way? May I suggest you be less defensive about the deals you post and more accepting of input from both sides of the fence? It is more beneficial for the HUKDs community as a whole to have holistic feedback.

Good question.... I hope some one can help :)
How does it compare to this:

http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/322306278910
we can't have a Bush but it's still hot .
At £25 these things were massively over-priced; at £12.50, they're still rubbish: judging by the reviews on the Argos product page, I'm one of the many who found this so-called speaker to be low on volume, well-nigh devoid of bass, heavily compressed in its audio output and with little discernible stereo separation. Bluetooth connectivity was more miss than hit, regardless of whether paired to an Apple or Android device (contrary to the sales blurb, this speaker is not exclusively for iphones and ipads.) The 'Bush' name, of course, means nothing at all, owned as it is by an outfit which buys up dead brands and then has Chinese factories churning out product at the equivalent cost of 10p a unit for retail at several thousand per cent more. I took my "half price" Bush back to Argos and for a mere £2.50p more bought a Jam Classic. It doesn't claim to be 'stereo' yet its volume, bass, output clarity and presence put the Bush to shame. As ever, bargains are not always what they seem -- and especially not when they're heard.

Retro bush from the 80s? No thanks.
Bush used to be massive and very popular, bit thin on the ground now.:|

It's because Argos own the bush brand name and slap it on there own brand items, much like Polaroid with Asda.

I guess it wouldn't be Retro, if it had a remote. Who had a remote with a Ghetto Blaster in the 80's? Unless you were rich and had a wired remote........

It is a fair price, however having had a bush find difficult to recommend, ours packed up before two years old, paid a little more for a Zanussi this time round and the difference is astounding, quieter, less vibration and more efficient. Excuse my two penny worth, but definitely get what you pay for!

I worry these things will put off any budding vinyl fans, it is all well and good saying dont post stuff £150 more expensive, but seriously, these things have plastic tonearms and 1930's ceramic carts that will destroy a record in about 20 plays.

You can buy a really nice budget Project that will last 10-20 years for a £150, or this which will last about a year.

It doesnt matter how cheap they are, they are worthless crap.
The biggest problem posting anything to do with music is that you always get these wannabe audiophiles hijacking the thread and offering alternatives that cost considerably more. I once saw people recommending £150+ speakers in a deal for a set that cost around £20. It's annoying!

Props to rqmusicfan for posting a similarly priced alternative!
There's an Akai one in Morrisons that's going for £30, not sure if anyone's posted it here already but it seems pretty decent for the price and it works as a bluetooth speaker too. Here's a review The Vinyl Factory did of the Akai turntable

Bush is dreadful. Make sure you buy an extended warranty.
Actually, it's a Vestel. They have pretty good reviews.
Yes they're not £2k samsungs, but if you don't mind not having a "bush" badge rather than a "Samsung" one, it'll hold it's own against tvs around the £500-600 mark.
Not a brand snob, just speaking from experience having owned 2 Bush TV's. Fair enough if this is a good tv.

Yeah, bush used to be crap. It was made in the same factory as Alba/Goodmans.

Nowadays the stuff Argos sell is just licensed to use the name. This applies to anything Argos sell by Bush, Goodmans, Wharfedale (who do actually make their own speakers, but nothing Argos sells). It's a bit of a con, but if you do your research some of the stuff isn't half bad.

There is a lot of misinformation regarding DAB+ in the comments thread that I should clarify some of the things which have been said.
DAB does use MP2 but DAB+ does not use MP3, rather AAC. In the UK the majority of stations broadcasting in DAB+ use HE-AAC v2 which incorporates Spectral Band Replication and Parametric Stereo to ensure acceptable (debatable at 32kbps) sound quality at low bitrates.
In Europe, the few remaining countries which broadcast in DAB and DAB+ are transitioning to DAB+. In Norway, they are switching off their main FM services and going predominately DAB+. The UK will transition to DAB+ one day - one station in Surrey already has for cost saving reasons and a number of stations on the trial small scale multiplexes have also transitioned to DAB+. Also worth noting that in Europe most stations tend to use around 64-72kbps. DAB+ should be a compromise of cost and audio quality. Alas in the UK, we've gone down the side of cost reduction rather than sound quality.
I would strongly recommend anyone purchasing a radio buys one with DAB+ - just to ensure it'll work down the line.
Beyond DAB+ the most important aspect of a radio is whether it can pick up stations - its tuner sensitivity and the antenna. Without either, it doesn't matter how powerful the speaker is or how clear the LCD display is or how nice it looks, it'll be nothing more than an expensive doorstop! I did a comparison of Pocket DAB radios and found a massive difference in how well different receivers pick up stations - the right radio makes a big difference as to whether you'll pick up services reliably or not. Cost isn't a factor either - I found radios for £40-50 could pick up signals much better than one for about double the price! Sadly, this important aspect of a DAB radio is largely ignored by the industry and individual reviews on shopping websites can be very subjective - buyer beware!Disclosure: I am responsible for the majority of edits for the Digital Radio in the United Kingdom article on Wikipedia.
I wholeheartedly agree with your comment. Tuner sensitivity does matter. I purchased a portable/pocket DAB+ capable radio last year and it would receive very little in my local area with very patchy reception. I sent it back to Amazon. I live behind a large hill which tends to block one broadcast point where the hill is between. Reception downstairs has always been very poor at best to unusable. Certain multiplexes from another location are better and more receivable downstairs. Upstairs is much better. I fitted an external DAB aerial which works very well as it is above the guttering. Using that feed from my loftbox works well in my lounge. Having an Aerial socket/connection on the radio would be beneficial but I might be able to get away with some form of clip to attach a cable from the external DAB Aerial to the radios Aerial.

AAC v2 should allow low bitrates in Stereo at a reasonable quality. 32kbps is a little low for even parametric stereo and spectral band replication to provide decent quality however 48kbps does give acceptable quality IMO. Lets just hope that they cannot find enough stations to saturate the available bandwidth when DAB+ comes to widespread use. I bet they will try and reduce the bitrate if they can get enough stations paying for use. DAB is an utter waste of time for many stations due to bitrate restriction where many low bitrate stations are only broadcast in mono. It's no wonder many radios are only sold with one speaker. Mono is so 1980. My first radio cassette player had only one speaker and I do not want to go back to quality worse than that, which most DAB broadcasts are IMO.

The real joke is how advertising claims "DAB quality sound". DAB and quality should not be used together IMO with the bitrate restrictions implemented. If it wasn't for local football coverage only being broadcast on DAB for most of the matches I would give it a miss entirely. However if I want to listen to the matches while I do other things I need a DAB radio. The one I had broke.

The AZATOM Multiplex D1 is back in stock now. As soon as I confirm that it has a headphone socket in the latest model I think I will purchase it. I am not keen on the colour as it is black but lots of power. It looks like they might of removed the equalizer which I am not pleased about unless they moved it to somewhere where the manual does not say. That could be the case as no manual is available online ATM. For the money it seems to be the best available.
Is the alarm clock any good on this and how does it compare with the Bluetooth version? Thanks
