it is very good but not ISO File USB Playback compatability
Sold out
adsham
A couple of key things I learned from the previous thread that you may find useful.
- According to one user it doesn't support mp4 playback from disc (only USB).
- There is no audio output.
Respect for including this item's limitations, alhough it may be more accurate to say "no dedicated audio output" rather than imply that the item's HDMI carries no audio!

Have done, thanks

What's a DVD player? :p An ok price for a Star Wars themed player, I still have a few of these (Hello Kitty branded one and a few generic ones) they all provide enough power for one DVD movie playback and maybe a quick delve into the extra features. I am trying to convince them to use their Hudls more though (we did have fun converting them to the NDS back in the day!)

That's just the upscalling I assume, I've never heard of 1080i only Blu-Ray
1080i is standard HD TV and satellite signal distribution in the UK. Quite why anyone would want a downgrade from far superior 1080p Blu-ray produces tho is beyond me....

Sorry I think you misunderstood I mean a blu ray player that only outputs 1080i, can't say I've heard of one of them.

Just an update. The DVD player came with a small amount of battery charge and a note saying they charged it a little bit so u can get watching straight away. When I turned it on it came on and said insert disc it then said loading for around 4-5 minutes before saying "no disc" I knew the disc was working but tried another anyway and same again. I now have charged the DVD player and when I plugged it in its working - does anyone know if this will break on me again or did it just need more charge?? I'm not very technical! Thanks X

Nope, these don't have hard drives in them.
You'd be better off with a cheapo tablet and a big microSD card in it, surely?
The resolution on this is awful. 480 x 234. Battery life is pretty bad too.
How do i get the films off the dvd's onto the cards?
There are dozens of tools for doing that. Handbrake for one. Or download them, which will be quicker.
I get what your saying, and totally respect your opinion, and i know many people will agree totally with you i'm sure.
That said however I do think you are missing the point of the listing somewhat.
If your starting a collection up from scratch then the tablet and downloading makes great sense, but for someone who has a big collection of dvd's and just wants a cheap and easy way to let their kids watch them, then surely a little dvd player makes more sense.
As for resolution do kids really notice that much?
It's low spec, but it doesnt need to be more on a childs dvd player ( I mean I grew up watching a little 14inch telly but I have fond memories of the great things I watched).
It is fit for purpose and has good reviews, and if you have a huge pile of dvd's that you would like a child to be able to access I think it is a great little gift.
Each to their own..... I'm old hat when it comes to tech, i don't need the latest, this, that, and the other.
If it does the job, on budget, im happy.
For £40 all in..... job done
but I totally respect that others will feel differently.... its just my opinion :)

This is a great price for a kids DVD. The resolution is the standard res for a DVD player. The form factor is quite small and with the included accessories, it's a bargain. Ordered and heat!

If that's the standard res, why is it the standard res? DVDs are 720x576. You're losing a lot of definition.

No idea. All the kids' players I'va had have been that res. Weird, guess the screen size plays a part as they think they can get away with lower res.

Anyone looking for a Bluray there are still 30% off certain Amazon Warehouse deals, there is still a Sony BDP-S3500 available for £41.40, Sony players are better reviewed than Samsung ones..

I have ordered goods from Amazon warehouse before with no problem, many have been as new, you still get their 12 months warranty, just check the package is complete before ordering.

This doesn't play MKV Files so thats a no no ! Better of buying the Panasonic one thats £50 at the moment and forget the 3D and get one that plays all the Video formats.

Not according to the official specs on the samsung site. Says it does. I have the 6500 version snd that certainly plays them, in fact it plays everything i throw at it, same for all the other samsung products i have used over the years.

As with a number of other Panny players, this player does not seem to support MP4 playback from disc, but will from USB. Always found that strange - and a real pain. List of supported file formats is mentioned on page 6 of operating manual.

Surely a USB is a lot easier that burning a mp4 to a disc? Unless you already have a collection of films already on disc.
For personal use that is very true, but for non-return/giveaways of vids to distant elderly relatives: certainly not. 10p disc compared to £3+ for flashdrive, plus can post two discs together before exceeding the 5mm PO letter size that most cheap USB sticks always exceed, and there is a lot of space to write the vid occasion on the disc face - that is simply impossible on a USB stick. Became very frustrated with an aunt who persisitently said that I was sending her blank DVDs, until I discovered the Panasonic "no-MP4-playback-from-disc" issue.

who buys DVDs? waste of money, just get a tablet. nexus 7 only slightly more.

So you have bought your tablet, mounted it on the headrests, so now what? guess you want to watch a film - how? and dont suggest streaming content, you are in the car the data usage would cost a fortune.

This is a good deal, and great for the kids - heat from me.

EDIT - Ok, I just spotted its only a single dvd, so for me its on ok deal for me, I haven't looked but suspect there may be cheaper options, I bought a twin dvd detup for £100 at misco of a few years ago - I know I know we cant time travel, but still think they could be found for somewhere near that price.
agree !& i think it has longer life than a tablet.
Good deal, but you can find cheaper products @amazon ,not the same but it does do the job.
Its still good for who can pay for it @this price.

Utter rubbish, better deal than a tablet!! Anyone with half a technical mind would see that you get a tablet and convert a movie, stick it on the tablet and away you go.. Also have the options for games and music too.. Done it in my car with a playbook and headrest mount from Argos.. Much better!!

We use our tablet in the car, I either put the movies straight to the tablet via USB or put them on memory card

Where do you get the movies from? I would have to buy the dvd, rip it into a video format, copy to a usb stick so the kids can then watch it, sooo much hassle.

We get movies from various places, Ultraviolet, Amazon etc, all managed on our PC. I see where you are coming from, I can see grabbing a DVD from the house and putting it in a machine being easy, but when your kids simply must watch Shrek 2 and the disc is not in the case, it creates hassle.

The player in this deal does both discs and digital formats, so IMO it's a good deal

Anyone wanna advise on why this is 'Cold'??

Everytime this is posted I feel like I HAVE to vote cold.

I had to take my sets back 3 times in the space of 2 weeks as pixels kept dying quickly. Then on the 3rd set I got the volume buttons did not work on the front of the unit, volume could only be changed via the remote. On my 4th set (Still within 3 weeks) The mount that holds them in the car would not click in place and so the screen would keep dropping to face down.

Now on set number 4 and 6 weeks in they are fine... Touch wood. Although one of the mounts has become loose and the screen wobbles while im driving now.

I highly advise to go for a better brand!

was just looking around last night to replace our current ones. Might explain why so many refurb ones in eBay for £80

I know Logik are not a good brand but if they work OK then £99 still seems a decent price for 9" screens so im still surprised its soooo cold.

Always good to get explanations though. Thanks.

Update - Back in stock now...
Seems as though they have sold out...
I bought this a couple of years back. Worked well for at most 3 long road trips over 12-18 months then the DVD player packed up.
Build quality is pretty shoddy to be honest.
Still works from SD and USB, but very fussy about what files it plays.

Compared to my old Centurion car DVD player, now that was built like a tank, but they don't seem to make them any more.

Oh, and only one screen will work if running it off battery, you need to connect it to a power outlet before both screens will work.

Link takes you to a price of £111.49
Our car is fitted with no less than 8, high definition, 360 degree multimedia screens to keep the sprogs occupied on journeys.

Good price, Tesco tvs are good
The £20 code will not work with any other codes (so it says)! I went for the TV without the DVD which was £109 down to £89. I cant be bothered with the new customer £10 off code.
Thanks for the heads up. I can't get the two codes to work side by side. Could you explain how you got this down to £89?

why is everyone moaning about this.

lol. No idea. Sorry!

It was the cheapest all-in-one package with optical in I could quickly find.

Not a lot of feedback on it, but a quick google would suggest not (for DD and DTS). Translated page, look at review 4 ... http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=ru&u=http://www.testfreaks.ru/pc-speakers/microlab-m-1910/&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dmicrolabs%2BM1910%2B%2Bdts%26biw%3D1280%26bih%3D968

Less features is not really surprising at that price point. All in one systems with optical inputs and a decent DAC are generally a lot more expensive than those.

But even the convertor above and Logitech Z506's would still keep you around, or just under, £100.

I use an AV Amp and big speakers myself. I do have an ancient set of Cambridge Soundworks DTT2200's connected to my PC in the spare room. That's about as close to this type of speaker set as I have. But you've no chance of getting those now. They're pre-historic! (But still sound OK ...)

Or save a little more and get something like an Onkyo HT-S3505. More expensive, but a far better solution (especially in a living room) than a set of PC speakers and convertors ....
Thanks for your help! It seems that Microlabs, are a new company started in the 90s,and as you say not many reviews on them! We will be putting it in our bedroom,so may be the Microlab one will be fine? And the more expensive Onkyo we could put in the living room...(If the boss Mrs Cool says yes..lol) again thanks for your help with this.

I see micro lab unit has an optical in but can it also decode Dolby digital 5.1 or DTS signals?
sancheez
The above would work, but I reckon you'd be better off putting a little extra cash into the speaker set. That Xenta set is not the best.

Have a look at the Amazon reviews: http://www.amazon.co.uk/XForce-Multi-Media-Surround-Sound-Speakers/dp/B0042AH6VK

A mixed bag at best.

If you want to stay on the cheap side, you would probably be better off with something like the Logitech Z506. They're about £20 more but much nicer quality than the Xenta stuff.

(Or the Microlabs unit I linked to on the previous page which doesn't need a convertor ...)
The Microlabs I have not seen before,I will look up about them!I guess you rate them?

I have these, we don't use them any more due to iPad mounts in the car but they are good little things, can be joined up to watch the same dvd or watch different ones, plus they are ideal if the kids want to watch their own dvd's in the house.
Good value, heat added!
