Had terrible experience with HP. No decency for customer service, bad design etc. Bought 2 hp high price range and both turned out bad.

360Jones

the e2-1800 version is terrible heats up soooo much!

Warnoq

Have to say I agree with 'sats1987', i've gone through 3 HPs in 5 years as well as a few others in the family and I find HP terrible! I have an AMD version of this laptop and a 15.6" version.. both of which are pretty poor. I would back Acer or MSI any day

spanielgita

That's also double the price!

Evilcell

correct me if im wrong as im not that interested in laptop components till recently i started looking at them for my cousins but won't it be better looking at the ones priced at £499 and get the £100 cash back?? you can get i5 processors at the £499 (+£100 cashback) range or newer i3 CPUs which has intel HD 4000 graphics doubt 8GB ram is really needed

Ordered one last night for collection from store. Email received late night that order dispatched. TNT tracking showing as out for delivery now. Hopefully they dont want to charge me any extra when collecting. By the way my phone was not working yesterday so they could not call me :)

And another point for anyone who received an order confirmation email from them: "Your order constitutes an offer to us to buy a Product. All orders are subject to acceptance by us, and we will confirm such acceptance to you by sending you an e-mail that confirms that the Product has been successfully ordered (the Order Confirmation). The contract between us ( Contract) will only be formed when we send you the Order Confirmation. http://www.staples.co.uk/wrapper.aspx?param=help_policie_sale If you have that order confirmation then they're in breach of contract, you are quite within your rights to go out and purchase the same laptop and pursue Staples for the difference in price as damages for breach of contract.

I've got one of these and while I AM fond of it (love the media controls and the size/shape) I wouldn't recommend buying a refurb. This model has no vents on the bottom and only minimal vents on the side, and coupled with the AMD processor it means this runs very hot. I bought mine direct from HP and had no end of problems getting them to fix it. Graphical glitches (flickering lines at the top of the screen) kept appearing and BSODs were pretty regular. It was obvious to me that the constantly-hot APU was failing but they tried everything to deny there was a problem or convince me that the problem was with some other cheap component (e.g. a fan) that'd be easy to fix. Anyway, eventually, they did replace the motherboard and the glitching/BSODs went away but now it's come back again and it's out of warranty. I wouldn't be at all surprised if these were units that have been sent in with failing APUs and that have had the fans (or another cheap component) replaced and given the all-clear. Don't risk it.

almisakinom

Cheap as chips

Hal

I bought one for my son to replace a damaged Chromebook. It comes with Windows 7 NOT Windows 8.

philipdavies

Bought one of these a couple of weeks ago, except it came with Windows 7 Home 64-bit, and it's now listed as Windows 8. Happier to have had Windows 7 on it, personally. Happy with mine so far, build quality seems good and the keyboard is nice.

Rys_Ochodzki

Previous generation DM1 was actually not a bad spec - E-450 CPU - which is more than 10% faster than the newer E1-1200. I would only recommend this laptop with E2-1800 with is nearly 20% faster than E1-1200 and an upgrade from HDD to SSD, unless you are going to wipe Windows and run Linux or you are just very patient and not bothered by sluggish experience. Watch out for shiny screen - it's absolutely rubbish when used outdoors even on max brightness. £184 is not a bad price for a nice Linux netbook!

do you get the 5%off online or in store????

I did notice your key words, and they are complete rubbish. 'A lot' would lead people to believe a high percentage of them are ex-display/returns. Over the years I've picked up a fairly large amount of item's from them ending in .97, and every single thing has been brand new.

taleb1

notice the key words I used, a lot of, not all based on my experience, the stocks are run low/not available for home delivery, I have ordered and collected an item only to see it is not new just ex-display/returns and if you try to bring up the issue, they state 'oh it's clearance, that's why it's clearance price'

I disagree there PurplePerson, I think for the money the battery is decent enough. Voting cold as this price seems to be the RRP as only currys sell it from a quick google search.

PurplePerson

Why. Why. Why. Why. Why. Why do they build this and then cripple it with such crappy battery life? Edit. OK that's a bit harsh. It's not that bad, but most decent netbooks have a 6-cell battery and can work for 8-9 hours.

Hi OP. l don't know if this comment will help because it is just a subjective point that applies to me. l do know that l am not alone though. Last year l upgraded big time to a performance laptop. l decided to pay extra to have a blue-ray drive to complement the full HD screen. Thirteen months later, l have used the drive once. That was to watch a movie. l have found that everything l need can just be downloaded or streamed. lt's only my opinion, but if l were choosing now, knowing what l know, l would absolutely go for this, and in the weeks or months ahead, if you find you need or miss a drive, then your own idea of an external one is ideal. l hope you get what you want and will be happy with it.

SPECTRE?Isn't that the name of the baddies at James Bond?

AdmV0rl0n

Sadly like many PCs shipping today, a nice outer case wrapping up business machine internals with moderate difference from years ago. And large gaping holes like no decent GPU. The PC has no real future with vendors doing this. Tablets shipping for buttons come with GPUs that cater for the platform. PCs shipping costing hundreds have clapped out useless on CPU GPUs. Unfit for applications or games. The point of a PC is lost when you start eradicating things that made the PC viable. Expandability, gone. Perfromance, junk, hell, even storage is in retreat. The platform is now moving to smaller and smaller storage. (The SSD only hides the fundamental junk performance on the business level internals.) The last spectre I looked at only came with 10/100 ethernet port, not even gigabit. A very nice design utterly ruined by poor and badly thought out specs.

deleted65393

Shouldn't the price with the code be £551.65? As for Quicdo HP don't usually pay if using a code even if it tracks; some get lucky so fingers crossed.

Yeah I'm also not concerned with the screen resolution. It is far from rubbish. Also, if you wanted to do any sort of gaming then 1366 x 768 might let you play some games on med settings but 1080p would be unplayable. I've actually ordered this myself. I went for the 'Buy Together & Save' and chose the Beats Solo High Definition Black Headphones with Control Talk and the 2 year Care Pack. Don't think the Care Pack adds anything as it comes with 2 year warranty as standard anyway. the headphones on the other hand; if you don't want them then you should be able to get £100 at least for them. Some shops sell them for £170 according to a quick Google search. So, you could end up paying the following. HP Spectre XT Ultrabook™ 13-2100ea with 2 year warranty and Beats Solo Headphones = £699 12% Discount code = £615.12 12% Topcashback/Quidco = £541.31 Sell the Dr. Dre headphones for £100 = £441.31 If you are looking for a pair of headphones then you probably won't find a pair of this quality under £50 anyway so they're a steal.

why is it rubbish. for that size screen that seems alright
