Advice needed on wearing glasses!

I would get another eye test done somewhere else and afterwards ask them about the prescription you got before, they may shed some light on it,

I'd probably try wearing them for a full couple of days and see if it's any clearer. Maybe you just need them for reading? Or might've got the prescription wrong? In any case no harm in doing a full trial run and then going back to see your optician if still not happy!

Same as above, have another test, if you really needed glasses I'd have thought that you'd have noticed a difference pretty quickly. They don't always get the prescription right so a second opinion is a good idea.

sounds like they sold you something you didn't need

Go to Tesco opticians they will give you a free eye test and then compare them.

As the guys above. Have another test

Right eye : cyl -0.75, axis 105, near +1, inter +0.5,
Left eye : cyl-0.25, axis 26, near +1, inter +0.5
Bvd is 12

If you needed them you should have noticed an improvement straight away, i would go back for a re-test or a different prescription or be getting my money back.

Some opticians are just in it for the profit
I suspect you are similar to me - very small prescription - night driving and the headlights flareup and make driving "painful" but during the day you can see clear as anything
When reading pc screen most of the pages will be just fine then you'll come across some page with just the wrong background colour or font or contrast and you are squinting

As others have said a second eye test with an independent optician might be worthwhile.

Im sure its a scam. Had my eyes tested as i was waiting for the wife to have hers done. Same as op 1st eye test since army medical back in 1985 im now in late 40s.

Told me i need glasses for driving "driving i said" and he said yes for long distance.told them i dont drive and he then said watching tv then.

Thanks everyone, I guess I need to go back. Will give specsavers a ring tomorrow.

I got my eyes tested two years ago. Sat in the chair, read the letters aloud etc. Then after the test had finished the optician turned to me and said 'go choose some frames'. I said 'so do I need glasses'?
His reply was 'it wouldn't hurt for you to wear some at night time '!! I didn't buy any glasses...opticians just want a sale, they don't like you leaving empty handed.

You realise that is an extremely mild prescription especially in your left eye. You might notice some differences if you close it and take your glasses on and off while only using your right eye. Your left eye will compensate but it will possibly lead to eye strain quicker.
Not saying that you could or couldn't have done without them. I just go elsewhere to buy a new pair if I want to (Selectspecs or the like) rather than paying Specsavers prices for new glasses

I wish I would of said something at the time but I think I was embarrassed.. don't wear glasses if u don't think you need them. your eyes will get use to them and you won't be able to see without. don't forget they want you on proscriptions to get cash from you.

​I was 7 and there was a frikkin leaf in the way of the chart from a plant pot on the table near the chart I kid you not. Was too shy/nervous to say anything so just said I couldn't read some letters. They forced glasses on me which I'm sure made my vision start to deteriorate.

It's been a common practice for years for opticians to screw people. If you don't squint, strain to see stuff, don't put them on.

A lot of companies give you a voucher for glasses if they are needed to do your job. Like on the computers. If you've not paid for them I wouldn't go paying any more money for a second opinion. Very small adjustment so might be hard to tell. If your work didn't pay, ask if they can pay you back for the money paid out.

Don't bother with Specsavers,try Asda Opticians.

If you have a +1 add this would suggest they are for near, i.e. reading. This will make distance appear blurred. If they are computer-specific, they should sharpen your vision at about arms length, where you would expect the screen. If you're not sure, it sounds like it was not explained before purchase so I would have a separate check and challenge if needed.

You don't need glasses if you can see clearly.

I was in the same boat - got my eyes tested years ago as they were getting irritated and tired - at the time it was due to the air-con at work. I only needed +1's so I bought a £13 pair but it didn't help so I stopped wearing them.

Now after after getting an eye infection and too much Playstation my eyes started getting tired again.
My right eye that had the infection does not focus very well now but my left is fine.

I got re-tested and they recommended +1.5 for close up. I ended up wasting £100 getting some varifocals so I could see the screen and then see documents right in front of me, but they were so bad I couldn't use them.
I bought a pair of £4 +1.5 but I've gone back to wearing my +1's as they do the job best.

It's worth popping in to one of the cheap stores to check the different reading glasses to see if they do make a difference. But if you can read or see your screen without any problems then you don't really need them just yet.

In my experience Specsavers are a load of crap.

If you didn't notice much difference wearing them then don't bother putting them on.

Taking a couple weeks for your eyes to adjust sounds like **** too. It is instantaneous.

I totally agree, this happened to me at Specsavers, told I needed glasses, everything was blurry with them on and was told my eyes needed to adjust to them. I tried but then went back and was told I was given the wrong prescription. Now my new glasses are ok, but my eyes are getting worse, I'm sure once you start to rely on glasses, your vision gets worse.
