Within 28 days full refund after that repair, refund or exchange up to retailer what they give you as long as it's with 12months of purchase.

Depends, argos are pretty good with refunds, if it's under 30 days and you have receipt take it back for refund. If over they may only offer to repair or replace.

Reset it back to the start screen and pack it back up nicely. They are within their rights to charge you a fee to bring it back to what they would class as a 'resalable' condition - i.e ready for another customer to buy.

If you've got all the packaging, accessories etc and it's been reset then there's no reason for them not to refund you.

Not that I am aware of.

If it's faulty they will probably exchange it rather than refund you, unless you're within 28 days.

Laptops are exempt from the normal money back guarantee because of the hard drive. Anything with a storage medium is exempt. Also if he's bringing it back as faulty and he's past the 28 days then it is automatically not in a 'saleable' condition so they will offer a repair or replacement (assuming it is in stock). Unlikely they will offer a full refund but he might get lucky.

    which states:-

*Products exempt from 30 day money back guarantee

Sorry, but there are a few items we can't accept returns on such as large kitchen appliances, food products and some jewellery items - unless of course these are faulty, or otherwise don't conform to the contract. These are identified in the catalogue or at argos.co.uk,

Nothing on there about laptops and I checked a few laptops and none had any warning of a 30 day exemption

They are exempt because it says so on the receipt. They don't stipulate everything on the website but most if not all electronic items are exempt (as a rule of thumb).

If it really is the case that most if not all electronics are non-returnable then their returns policy is horrendous and unlike any of their competitors (John Lewis, Amazon etc)

Guys he isn't asking for a refund on an unused item, the laptop has developed a fault. The 28 day money back guarantee is irrelevant.

They can't make up terms and conditions AFTER the sale has been agreed so this cannot be legal. If it only states on the receipt AFTER you have paid and nowhere else then that is against the law.

Irrelevant to some extent as it is faulty, though if he has had it over 28 days then they are under no obligation to refund - they just need to offer a reasonable resolution, such as an exchange or swift repair.

You can't return most things to Argos if they are opened - the 28 day things is for unused items and is entirely separate from statutory rights, since NO shop HAS to accept returns for anything other than faults. Some shops - like John Lewis - offer returns even on used electronic items, but they are something of an exception. They could change their stance on that whenever they wanted if too many people started taking the pee.

You are missing the point, I know all about consumer law and that is nothing to do with my answer.

The point was you stated Argos state clearly that they allow returns in store up to 28 days after purchase but they do not state anything about 'media' products until AFTER you have purchased the item.

    This is against the law.
  21. liamf12's avatar
28 days refers to sale of goods act which went out last year. You now have 30 days under consumer rights act.

It's not, because they have no obligation to accept returns for anything other than faults. Their 28 day policy is entirely at their discretion so the law doesn't really come into it.

If the product is faulty then they are entitled to an exchange or repair, unless they have bought the item within the last month.
