My daughter has just picked up her Ford KA (Sun Collection), year 2001 and it drives fine (drove it home from Wales to Devon). However, when she went to check the oil/water levels under the bonnet, she could not locate the bonnet release pulley anywhere - it says that it should be near the steering column, but she says that it's not there. My son has had a look around where bonnet release pulleys are usually found on cars, and he says he can't find one either - does anybody know where it actually is? We obviously don't have the owner's manual as it is a second-hand car and quite old. Thank you.

sorted by2001 (November) For KA Sun Collection
The car is quite old and never came with a manual.
It's red.
If you can't find the Orange bonnet release under steering have you looked to see if you can move the ford badge at the front and put your key in to open as some fords do it that way.
Pull it down.
Bingo.
Can you make out the Orange lever underneath the steering.
We bought the car from a car selling business. Do you think it's possible that the orange lever has snapped off perhaps? It's too dark for me to look now, but will do in the morning.
I'll have a look at the Ford badge tomorrow morning to see if it moves. Thank you.
It's possible a previous owner might have snapped it off while trying to open it. Have a check tomorrow in the light and see if one is under the steering column. If not check the badge and if that's not how it opens I think you can by a lever for under £10 on eBay and maybe your son could fit it.

I've had a look at this and there is a page further down that shows the bonnet. It says:-
Opening fig. 46-47-48 Proceed as follows: pull lever A in the direction of the arrow; move to the right the lever as shown in figure; lift the bonnet and at the same time release the support rod C from its locking device D, then insert the end of the rod in the seat E of the bonnet (bigger hole) and push to safety position (smaller hole), as shown.
I will have to have a look at the car tomorrow in the light. Just thought that for the instructions above, there would be a release lever inside the car. I have a few options to try out tomorrow, one being to look underneath the Ford badge. Thank you for your advice.
My daughter found it, in the daylight - it was underneath the steering column! Have you ever driven a Ford KA, or know somebody who has, by any chance? Only asking, as my daughter says that when driving over drains/manhole covers, etc,, she feels the car slipping/sliding. I contacted the seller (company selling cars), but they said that the tyres had been checked and were fine. I also checked the tyre pressures and they were ok. The seller said that even though the tyres were narrow ones, they shouldn't slide on steel covers, etc. Just wondering if it is how my daughter is driving the car perhaps? Thank you.
