Hey guys, I'm trying to reduce my monthly Sky cost. It's not mega expensive but just trying to save where I can.
My tv package is £25, broadband £7.50 & phone line is £15. I don't use the phone for anything other than the odd phone call to a premium cost number. Tv wise, I have the Sky+ variety package, no HD etc. Broadband unlimited.
I can't imagine they'd be able to knock much off if I threatened to cancel so I was looking at cancelling the phone line. Can it be done? I've googled it & it seems to suggest I don't need it for the tv but do for the broadband, is this right?
Cheers

Eh? You having a laugh?
Incorrect.
You can get Virgin Media fibre optic broadband on a 12 month contract - without a phone line, albeit it is a bit more expensive.
Try and give sky a call. When u have a package the broadband is free. I have this.
It is impossible for them to provide just BB at BB costs, if you take away the line rental from most packages then you would be paying peanuts for BB. However, it does not work like that, because of the service they provide and all the complications involved they simply could not provide just BB without the phone line for the price you think you should be paying.
Hence the reason why just BB is not a great deal cheaper than the one that includes the phone line. It is not the phone line that costs the money but the whole service that comes behind providing it.
I never said it doesn't factor line rental into the price, I just meant that you're technically not paying a separate fee for it - which is correct.
And it's usually a lot cheaper to get BB and Home Phone with them, then just BB on its own, there's always deals around, with uSwitch, TCB, Quidco etc.
