Nope, You could block private numbers or maybe give your operator a call, Maybe they might be able to manually block it or advise.

These are sometimes from the police or hospitals if they need to get in touch with you. A couple of days ago I rang the police as on my way to the shops there was a car with its engine running and a man who appeared to be asleep. He still there some time later, and although I tapped on the car window I got no response. The police checked it out and luckilly he was OK but they rang to update and thank me and that was 'private number', as have been calls from the hospital to change my appointments.

If you get a private number, nothing will show you it, not even TrueCaller. TrueCaller is like a cloud based phone book, it will identify callers by name when you only have a number. It can also block these calls, etc., but can't identify them.

Yeah, best to answer these calls. It might be important. If it's a marketer just tell them you're not interested and disconnect.

Only the phone company can figure out who the caller was.

In fact, I am told that in the UK the caller ID displayed doesn't even have to be correct, as anyone who owns a modern phone switchboard can masquerade their number with any caller ID they would like to display.

Just get your phone to send calls with withheld numbers straight to the answer phone.

You can also request a different number to be displayed on a regular line if you wanted.
Caller Line Identification Presentation is the service.

I wouldn't want to be called by either the police or hospital. If the police want you for something serious they show up at your door. I block everyone not in my contacts.

This seems a little OTT as I think it could backfire if a relative or close friend gets in to a stick situation where their usual phone/line isn't working

But I'm not a doctor so if someone is sick there is nothing that I can do. I don't do funerals either!

Neither apparently are you a person who would care if a member of your family or a friend were in serious difficulties and was trying to contact you. On the other hand they would most likely not bother but try someone else.

A long time ago I realised that the only thing that comes by phone is Bad news, and people wanting something. I can do without both.
