Not proud of this whatsoever but I believe I've just been flashed by a fixed camera on the M1.I think I was doing 90mph or JUST over. What would be the most likely outcome of this? I'm worried now I might lose my licence.I have been driving for about 21 years and I've not even had a parking ticket let alone a speeding offence.

sorted byThe HUKD witch hunt team will want you to be burned at the stake, and your family forced to slave in work-houses for 3 generations.
Wait a few minutes. Someone will be allong on here condemning you, whilst claiming they have 70 years driving experience with no points whatsoever.
Dont get too downbeat about it - at least it wasnt 100mph, then you really would be in danger of losing your license. 90mph will likely get you a slap on the wrist and leg, but we live and learn
Heres a usefull FAQ for you Speeding Offences

100+mph is a family day out to court, not necessarily losing licence ... but pretty likely.

Ahh, it seems someone on the M25 has been caught...
The worrying thing is generally the cameras on the M1 are not active all the time and are only active when there are speed restriction in place. So if you were doing 90mph in a 50mph or 60mph limit then it will be points and a fine.
But it's done now so you can't do anything until/if the letter drops through the door.
I'd say dont ever fight a speeding ticket unless you genuinely have been falsely accused. If you lose, the punishment will be twice as bad.
Love the way you put THINK in block caps :-)
Always seeing the cameras flash around jct 40 ish. Even when people appear to be going below the speed limit. I know they are average cameras but it always seems to be the few stealth cameras around there that I see going off.
.........then wait no longer, I will put you out of your misery , yes you deserve what you get as it's reckless drivers like you who kill & injure because you are used to doing 90+ regardless of others, the law and common sense.
You earned it and I hope you do lose your licence then the roads would be much safer and insurance cheaper

Think the police are cracking down on drivers now especially when roads getting really busy and consequences of speeding can devastate families. Only thing which annoys me is so many changes in speed limits spend more time looking for signs 60 then 70 then 50 no wonder so many pile ups!! My local dual carriage way is 30 which leads onto another which is 40 tiny signs which catch loads of people out if not local
I just got one for doing 39 in a 30 zone - I am going on a day out to a hotel for a course
She is adamant that she couldn't have been going more than 35/40 let alone over 50. Plus, as a ford focus she would actually have been at 60 on her Speedo.
Obviously nothing to do with the case in point, but people beware that on occasion the police machines must be wrong ( i know some of you will think she was lying, buy if you knew the road you really wouldn't want to go anywhere over 50 on it!).
Ive said this many, many times before. Ill show an example of how the UK speed penalty system is flawed.
Driver A is well rested and has a high level of concentration on the road. He is doing 60mph on a 50mph road.
Driver B is suffering from poor sleep, stressed, tired and is not concentrating. He is doing 50mph on the same road.
Which one is more likely to be punished, and which one is more likely to crash/kill someone?
Driver A and Driver A
a. the arrogant idiot who breaks the law
b. the idiot who is driving without due care and attention
makes me puke how many people try to come up with lame excuses for breaking the law.
Man up..do the crime...pay the fine and I hope your insurance doubles next year.
this is the so called loophole lawyers first go for and request the results of camera calibration but 95% of the time they're accurate so lose their appeal
Yup, but the law is designed (supposedly) to prevent accidents and fatalities, yet the riskier (tired) driver B is the one who would most likely cause an accident and is also the one who would not be punished.
No idea how you come to the conclusion that a tired, non concentrating driver is safer than someone who is doing 10mph above the speed limit.
I got busted at 121mph 8 years ago, that was a pain in the ass, and has never been repeated....
Driver C has a 2017 car fitted with the latest safety tech, including pedestrian airbags, collision avoidance, top euro NCAP, all round disc brakes, ABS, EBD etc. The car's tires are brand new.
Driver C is doing 10mph above the speed limit.
Driver D has a 1980 car, has no airbags, limited safety tech, drum brakes and is travelling at the speed limit. The car has worn brakes and tires on the legal limit.
Who is the most likely to avoid an accident?
Which driver would be worse off in an accident?

That camera on the side of the gantry is a live camera and activates from 78mph upwards. Its a good one to get people at night as they are going uphill they dont expect one.
Also they arent average cameras as they are fixed section cameras denoted by a couple of triangle pointers in each lane.
The big grey cameras on the back of the gantrys are used as speed data cameras to support the smart motorway.
When the variable speed limit kicks in and changes speed downward you have 1 minutes grace to comply with that speed
limit.
Just watch out for the 2 bright yellow boxes at the side of the overhead gantrys usually preceded by a set of 3 cctv cameras to video the offence with the live variable speed limit.
OP you may get something or not. Maybe only a speed awareness course and fine. But your insurance may go up too.
There's a couple on the M62 around jct 28-27 westbound that are set wrong.
When the gantry signs aren't illuminated, its a 70mph limit, yet those things have been flashing people at 60mph.
Its flashed at me twice now, but not received a thing in the post (i was ready to contest it with dash cam footage).
Driver D as Driver C is getting complacent with technology thinking hes paid out all this money for the car to do the driving and thinking and probably has less experience on the road. Driver D having an old car using brakes alot has mileage experience and probably driving at a safer distance as hes going as fast or slower than the vehicles infront of him.
Yep see that one on othe side coming eastbound. Sure makes everybody on both sides do a brake check though and drive safer on the rest of their journey.
You'd like to think so, but theres a lot of assumptions in there.
Driver D could be a 17 year old whos just bought a £50 banger as their first car. Driver C could be a 40 year old with 20 years no claims. Its all hypothetical, but i do think the speed system is over-simplified and is a one-size-fits-all approach that makes too many assumptions (it assumes everyone is an equal risk on the road when it is not the case).
It also assumes the road is as risky at 2am as it is during 4pm rush hour traffic.
Some countries allow higher speed limits at certain times at night when the road is quiet (and weather conditions are good).
Reading online apparently the flashes are always charged and to prevent damage to the capacitor holding the charge if they haven't gone off in a while they discharge and recharge after a set time. May explain the random flashes. Don't know how correct this is but seems legit
I have been flashed loads of times but only had 2 tickets.
And I wouldnt rely on your speedo reading. In fact I wouldnt worry about it until you (or if) get a ticket or summons because there is nowt you can do about it.
It only kills if you hit something.
I got caught doing 94mph by a police car parked on a bridge. It recorded my speed set off joined the slip road and caught me up. The police car in the distance to catch me up must have been doing in excess of 130mph. That's nearly 50% faster than me. The officer would have to justify it being safe to do that. The road was dry, visibility was good and traffic none existent. So at that moment 130mph was deemed safe, so 94mph must be very safe. Exceeding the speed limit actually accounts for only a small number of road deaths.
I still collected my 3 points and £100 fine.
And he gets to use a hand held radio at the same time as doing 130mph plus if he wants too, but hey it's safe if you're a police officer!!!
