NB - Just noticed the keyboard is exactly the same as my work laptop (Dell Vostro) which is spot on as I find this keyboard excellent to type quickly on (from someone who smashes the hell out of a keyboard, this will be put through it's paces but will hold up well based on the Vostro!).
The keyboard is excellent, mouse pad huge and excellent. Speakers excellent, build quality is top notch, brush alloy effect is stylish too. Ive got windows 8 all set up and im happy with how that runs too. Pretty quick/smooth and no issues so far.
Oh and by the way i used it for just over 4 hours of CONSTANT use and then the battery died. So not bad. Today i have used it for 2.5 hours of constant use and it has 49% left!!!
Yes, classic shell.
Try this, worked for me...............................
Go to Drivers & Downloads (dell.com/sup…tor?fkey=Drivers_PS) enter your service tag number, then select your operating system. Under Network, download and install the latest drivers.
Try these tweaks....
Start, control panel, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your wireless adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
Click on advanced. Look and see if your adapter has Antenna Diversity. If it has Antenna Diversity, change it from Auto to Aux.
Go to the power options, and changed the Wireless Adapter Setting, from Maximum Power Setting to Maximum Performance.
the 1st link
lol you can get it in a more manly blue aswell
Make sure you get to know the service manual or know a good laptop repair shop. Of course, you could increase the build quality of your machine by buying a bag of screws to add the ones that Dell won't have bothered to put it.
Source: I've owned 4 Dell desktops and 5 Dell laptops over the years and wouldn't touch anything but their high end business models anymore. Cheap crap for cheap prices.
thanks for that
Never had any issues with my Dell devices. Yes, they are built to a price, what isn't these days. I have had three laptops, a desktop and three mobile phones/pdas, none have needed repair and all but the pda are still in my possession and working!
I do however find that some people are incapable of looking after property these days, not suggesting you are guilty.

Absolute nonsense. I've bought several Dells for my personal use and tens of others for my company - I am always more than impressed with the build quality and the reliability of the machines. There are few companies (Toshiba, HP) which could match Dell for quality of their desktops and laptops.

me too - i am going to buy a betamax video recorder soon though

That is so ANNOYING!
4 x USB 3.0
Then I breezed past this laptop for £299 on Dell's website this morning and it didn't even register that it was the same laptop prev for £349 (exactly same spec and Dell E-value code). I assumed for £299 it was their bog standard Inspiron 15 which has always been £299.
I was just about to shell out on the Inspiron 15R SE deal (£444.11 after 11%) which was an excellent for the money but I really didn't need that much spec and was only buying because it seemed to be the best deal until I saw this which was much more suited to my requirements.
Thanks again!
Were talking about a laptop with these specs for £266!!!!
Let's see you do better............!!!
Gm7 - now that's a power chord.
In a few words: 2GB of discrete graphics, optional Blu-Ray, HD webcam and a Full HD (1080p) display and aluminium touch finish to exterior.

Regular store only. Outlet has different codes, and rarely do they come up. Though, with the discounts on new systems and the codes available, why bother going to the outlet?
Sounds like a problem with the user not Dell. You're not going to borrow mine!!!
because with (nearly) all technology you get what you pay for, if you want quality try the XPS13.
Source: I paid top money for a top product, and got it right first time
Yes, a very big difference in performance.
Should be here by Monday (but which Monday!)
Seriously I wouldn't have believed that the delivery route would have been this tortuous. Given the volume of chinese exports to the UK I would have expected a direct link & would never have guessed Korea then Almaty, Kazakhstan. Where next?
Edit: Having had a look at Google maps Korea was going exactly the wrong way & then Almaty, Kazakhstan is about half way here. It might be a necessary refuelling stop & I guess a location for sorting plane loads. eg 10 sources in & 10 destinations out.
Sorry if this is boring for those who haven't ordered but I find it interesting how these things work.

I'll second that, got to be the HUKD budget price laptop bargain of 2012? Looking forward to getting my mits on it.
Almost shed a tear.
Ok you lose gestures whatever they maybe but you can at least move the pointer without it randomly locking up.

The battery should have built in safeguards to prevent it discharging to a level that might damage the cells. What kills batteries is heat... you should keep the battery removed if using it on mains power for long periods.
Frequent deep cycling of the battery, going from 100% to 0% all the time will also negatively affect the batteries life span.
