Really good price for 280X.
The only thing that puts me off from buying one of those are the reviews mentioning fan problems/failures.
Shame it's not Vapor X edition.
But as I said really good price-cheapest 280X I could find.
And a decent retailer - not pixmania :P

Not sure why it's not showing in a bundle with AMD Radeon Gold Reward(3 free games). I think the offer is still on - its just not showing...

But what do you guys think? Go for this or do you think there could be a better r9 280x cheaper or around the same price by then

unless you plan on rendering or 4k gaming, this card will be more than sufficient at a pretty good price. you never know though as confrences are coming up so they may release new things pushing prices down more.

Two of them make brilliant renderer's for video work. All I need is money to buy the cards, upgrade my PSU to around 800W, buy a new case to handle the cards and extra heat and reconfigure the entire system. That works out at around £520 plus time, let's call it around £750.

Anyway I can't afford them but they are good value so heat from me.

Amazing price, arguably the best option currently available for all cards under £200.

I got the non x version recently and am very happy with it, this is a better card and only £20 more than I paid (without games).

Waste of money, buy second hand a generation before for the best value.

Not bought a graphics card for a while and know they have changed all their numbers again.
I bought it quite a while back for just over £300 before Xbox one and PS 4 came out, but how does the 7950 compare to these latest cards.

Am I still good to go for a while? My monitor is only 1920x1080 (a think, anyways it ends in 1080 not one of the 1200 or higher ones)

Thanks in advance, just know how fast technology can change, just hope I ain't got to start replacing parts just yet, or may just grab a console!?

tell me about it, used 5 of these for mining litecoins over £210 each, great cards though, never had a problem.

I had a 7950 with the Dual-X cooler, got a lot of heavy use and is still running without any issues in my Nephews rig.

At this price, I'd suggest grabbing one now, I doubt there will a cheaper option in 1-2 Months (or longer to be honest).

Price was held higher than it ought to have been due to demand from miners. Then bitcoin etc price dropped making mining uneconomic so everyone started to dump their cards and prices plummeted ... I got a ex mining 280x for £130 delivered so I'm not complaining!

    7950 = 280, 7970 = 280x - they just renamed the cards

Great offer, however, the Sapphire's are known to have terrible fan issues (at least the original versions). Unsure of they've fixed this issue, but on OC forums there's been a lot of people had burnt out cards within 6-10 months, so just be careful with that.

    Graphics card first-timer, here.

The 4gb 270x also seems to have been reduced, to £165 on Amazon. Is it worth plumping for that or is there a better card I can get for the same money?

(My PC currently has an i5 4670k with 8gb ram, plenty of hard disc space and 600W of power, none of which I want to change)

Well... this one. For a fiver more you'd be nuts not to buy this over the 270X. It's a fair bit more powerful.

I was looking at upgrading to a GTX 770 or 780. This looks like it's not far off a 770, but cheaper much cheaper. Very tempted.

This a miss print? cant be £170 for a 280X has to be just a 280 they suck and always do this, when you get it i bet it shows as a 280 not a 280x in other words a 7950....

Not far off a 770? it beats a 770 80% of the time once oced, a 770 is only a 680 and a 7970 beats a 680 plus 1gb more vram, no brainer really, specially at this price if indeed its a 280x and not a 280.

Take screenshot when ordering. If it's a 280 and not a 280x send it back at there expense

Is there a reason why the 770 can't also be overclocked?

It's not THAT much cheaper - other retailers have this card for around £200

Yes 770 doesnt clock nowhere as near as good as the AMD cards

Very, very nice deal. It finally got me to stop dithering and finally upgrade. -- Assuming it is the 280x and comes with the freebies, but it should have/be both. Will find out later in the week

At that price it is hits the sweet spot dead on. Was considering the 270x because it would be fine playing at 1080p right now, but for me, its worth an extra £50ish (280 pretty pointless while this deal is on) for the extra power and future proofing.

Going the other way, the 770 is nice, but you are in the £220-230 range for similar performance, and to get a seriously more powerful card, you are in the £300+ bracket.
  35. deleted10210's avatar
Looks a good deal, swithering on whether or not to upgrade my 6870 to this, or maybe the Grade B Gigabyte 290 OC in the other thread. Is now a good time to buy, or can we expect general prices on cards to drop any time soon?

I contacted Novatech through their live chat yesterday to ask about the Gold Reward (3 free games). They said they were out of stock of codes, but expecting more today. She added one to my order and said it will be sent out separately when in stock.

If you're still swithering about buying one, better be quick. Only 5 left in stock.

Edit: Just checked my tracking and looks like I might be receiving my card today!
