At £129 think this is cheap. I've got one myself and like it a lot, the wireless SW is a bonus, hate wires.

Paid more than this sadly.

There's no need for it. If it's so they hit their targets, then shame on them.Side note. If I was to purchase a home cinema system (5.1 with BR player), could I still use buy a soundbar or would all the connections be used up?

I don't ever blame the young lads that they employ, it's greedy management that are pushing them to sell these ridiculous cables/insurance/set up DVD's.

It's a detrimental system that both puts pressure on the employee to hit a target on scam-type peripherals, and pressure on the customer to buy stuff they don't actually need. I'm surprised this type of selling still exists to be honest..

The cables are around £50 each and I'm fairly sure the 'savings' that they offer for the two are just made up prices with fake value. Salesman tried telling me that I needed to buy them or the soundbar would not connect to my Sony TV, but you can get a decent optical anywhere else for less. Ended up not buying the soundbar because it makes you question if the bar itself is even worth £120. Buyer Beware!

I bought this soundbar today and a Currys geek gave the same **** that I needed a special cable for £50.
When I pointed out that it was just an optical cable which you can buy on Amazon for £5 he immediately offered £20 off and assured me these cables were special, lol

Digital cables are all the same. It is either a 1 or 0 being transmitted and received. Analogue cables are a whole different matter and quality increases with price.

Optical doesn't support HD audio so go with HDMI. Cable quality is the same deal.

Had the more expensive one £199.99 version for a year, cannot fault it, If the 2.1 at £129.99 has the same features it will be a good buy, though if you can spend the extra get the 3.1 one, looks great, sounds great. Got mine for the hdmi in and out and its ability to replace the tv speaker controls on my lg tv. Works great with the sky remote, Have mine in the arc hdmi feature, turn the tv on it comes on automatically, tv off, turns off then sky remote controls the volume. The only niggle is the blu tooth feature for me, to use this you have to scroll through the function to turn this on, its not always on the background or if the option to have it set like that.

Do I just plug an HDMI cable into the back of the tv and that's it? Or maybe the sky box? Won't get a chance to look until later, so would be nice to know what to expect. Thanks

I bought one yesterday, you don`t need any wires as it is a wireless connectivity it can connect via BT (bluetooth) if TV does not have BT then you need HDMI cable or an optical cable its virtually P&P.

I have this soundbar, paid the same in currys on black friday... I did … I have this soundbar, paid the same in currys on black friday... I did see it in sainsburys on boxing day for £100 unfortunately. Its a great soundbar, revews say midtones are lost and end up coming out the sub, this is true, but I can honestly say, for £130 its a great piece of kit. I enjoy it. HOT!

Yes this is unfortunately the case with many soundbars, where small drivers combine with the sub to deliver the top and bottom-ends, but the mid range will be lacking or very poor. The same is usually the case with 2.1 PC speakers.
You need a minimum size of driver (I'd say 4 inches is the minimum, 6 inches better) for acceptable midrange.

My dad doesn't understand how these sound bars can be called "wireless" when you still need to plug them in.

Haha! It must be a common misconception that wireless means no wires at all as Currys put this notice on the wireless sound bars:

PLEASE NOTE: - Wireless connectivity requires compatible devices
    - All models still require a power source

Popped into currys today, as a few of you have mentioned they tried selling me a £50 hdmi 'gold plated' cable which transmits the signal quicker for your 4k television! Lol. Someone needs to complain about these people.

Lol, well you know at the next bank holiday, we're going to have a lot hot deals on hdmi cables as they seem have a stock pile of them.. I can see it now 85 percent off....

Picked this sound bar up last night. Really good product
the sound is amazing, just got to mount it on the wall above the TV.

Bluetooth is great, you can connect up to 3 devices at one time but only one of them plays the music.

eastenders sounded good last night lol

When PC World/Dixons try to sell you their high price HTMI gold (plated) leads, ask them if the HTMI socket connections in the TV are also gold plated?

No thanks. Thats well below what Im looking for. This 120w Samsung model … No thanks. Thats well below what Im looking for. This 120w Samsung model with External subwoofer, for £89 looks promising.Or this Hitachi 120w model for £49

Out of the two would look at the Samsung, as it has a sub, Yamaha models are worth a look at though are more expensive. If you looking for clear sound and depth and isn't as loud as your tv soundbars with out subs are okay and you will hear the extra sounds, footsteps, rain, doors shutting.

However add one with a sub, it really brings you to viewing to life, a lot a people go on about the best quality picture is required, however try watching you fav film, program, inferior sound. After having a soundbars for over a year now, I have just changed it back to my normal TVs speakers, I was shocked at how bad it was.

Yep I would recommend one with a sub where possible, even if it's not wireless

When you said 'similar spec' I didn't realise your idea of similar was quite as varied as the alternatives you mentioned. They're both much less powerful and the hitachi lacks a separate subwoofer and the Samsung has a wired subwoofer.
There's an LG one with a wired subwoofer that I think is 300w total for £99.
You'll need to be clearer on what your requirements are if you're after recommendations.

Edit: I fibbed, the LG for £99 is also 120w -
