No, as above a Freesat box would be required but if you have Sky Q with a
Sky Q two port LNB it won't work, the LNB will need to be changed to a
four port normal Sky LNB or six port Hybrid Sky LNB. (edited)
why the aggression I replied to your comment about Sky selling them. They never sold them they always gave them away for a fee call it a loan or renting it makes no difference. But getting annoyed about it wow.

You can read the whole thread and still leave a comment about Sky not selling when some one makes the statement you did. Wasting time seems to be something you enjoy as we shouldn’t be talking about it now. It was a simple reply and didn’t need the grief you are giving. I actually agreed with you originally, sky do not sell them unless you think I said something else, no idea why you feel the need to keep wasting both of our time.

Cunny
Yes you could just use a free sat box

This may clarify things. When you cancel your subscription your Sky+ box will still work and using your now deactivated viewing card you will still be able to receive a handful of unencrypted free-to-view (FTV) channels, including BBC1, 2, ITV1, C4 and C5.

But the OP has Sky Q, which is loaned by Sky not owned by the OP. Sky will send a box for it return or if not a bill to cover the cost of it.
The channels you list are FTA and not encripted, there are about five FTV encripted channels. (edited)

Even if you purchase the Sky Q box, the PVR function will be disabled without an active Sky subscription (which also includes playback of previously recorded content).

If you class changing the LNB to one that that is Freesat-friendly: easily revert from Q to Freesat = yes.

Or request a Hybrid LNB, but apparently Sky are getting tight on issuing them. (edited)

I think you still have to pay a subscrition if you want to record anything (was £10 pm).

Or wait for the 3rd Gen ones - Humax don't make Freesat boxes any more, so they're starting to get a bit more difficult to find. Unfortunately the new ones aren't out yet, despite them supposed to being available in 2019.

I didn't say they were not available - just more difficult to get. Argos don't have them in stock anywhere near me. I've had one of these for over 3 years, plus a Manhattan non-PVR one in the bedroom as our aerial is awful, and we had a satellite dish from sky.
I'm relatively happy to move to catch up for most things, but my wife records lots of stuff. And our TV does do Freesat recording, but it's a single tuner, and there was something about only recording while turned on.

Yep and the check of it I wanted some mini ones for the kids rooms they wanted another £99 for each one. If I'm paying that much per box it should be mine to keep.
The worst part is they are not even reused just bined by sky once sent back under so called recycling yer right. (edited)

Rent or loan it’s the same thing you have to give it back. You never own it, loan us just a fancy way of renting it (edited)

What are 3rd gen ones meant to do different?
Nobody really knows, as the announcement was quite sketchy.
But supposedly support for 4k, mainly for things like Netflix, new EPG, and possibly support for SkyQ type LNB.
Latest news I have seen is someone called Dotscreen doing the EPG - prnewswire.co.uk/new…tml
