Scotland

If you're on a low income in Scotland
You do not need to apply if you get the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit. You’ll automatically get a letter telling you about the discount if you’re eligible.

Otherwise, you’ll need to apply directly to your energy supplier.

You might be eligible if all of the following apply:

Your electricity supplier may have extra eligibility criteria. They’ll also tell you which benefits mean you are eligible.

This is known as being in the ‘broader group’.

How to get the discount
Contact your electricity supplier to check if you’re eligible and to apply. They will decide who gets the discount in Scotland. You cannot apply for the discount by contacting the Warm Home Discount Scheme.

The number of discounts suppliers can give is limited. Contact them as early as possible. Check with them even if you were eligible for a discount last year.

If you’re eligible, your electricity supplier will apply the discount to your bill by 31 March 2024. You’ll need to stay with your supplier until it’s paid.

Apply Online - Some application forms may not yet be open, some closed etc
These are only some of the suppliers application forms, I will update the list as I find the other forms online for Energy Suppliers in Scotland

If people knew how much of their energy bill is spend on stuff like subsiding rich households who were able to afford to install solar ten years ago to receive 60p/kWh for deemed export they'd go mad. Forget all the "green" payments reported by the press, this money is going directly into the pocket of the super rich.

And that's before we get onto the fact your standing charge has more than doubled to pay for the failure of spivs who stared energy companies, took your money, squirreled it away and then folded the company the moment energy prices rise because they hadn't hedged anything. The entire cost to be paid for by other people paying their bills. Whole thing is an absolute scam by the rich to take money from the rest of us,

Privatisation of public resources is the biggest scam. The rest of it was inevitable.

Never got this before even tho I met the criteria, first for me this year, just hope they cough up, it won't cover the standing charge hike sadly but grateful for any subsidy atm

Standing charges is how they are making huge profits sadly now... they haven't come down at all.

So govt looks after its donors like BP who made all time record profits of £30bn+.

Meanwhile bill payers face thousands in energy bills, taxpayers subsidise energy producers and suppliers and all we get is £150? (which is funded by ourselves the taxpayers) Sounds fair

It's so true, a home insulating fund at the very least by taxing these greedy oil giants.

You can check the rating for a house by downloading your own Energy Performance Certificate scottishepcregister.org.uk/ and clicking Search EPC, enter your Postcode exactly (Capital letters, space in the middle eg AB12 3CD) then search your house number, then download certificate button will appear on the right)

This also can be used for Domestic or Non-Domestic properties, and can be useful also to see when it was updated, and what energy improvements are needed etc.

Since the change last year, the operation of the WHD scheme within the hrmc is a mess. I had to fight teeth and nail to be awarded it, but then my supplier had to place a credit note after the cut off in February 2023. I didn't get a letter or owt, I rang multiple times & even triple check there online criteria and was awarded the amount. I got a letter from hrmc saying that they couldn't get hold of my uc information, no email so I can sent proof to confirm of the correct information, I compliant about the lack of service from them and I ask why have they taken this away from the supplier's themselves?? I was awarded it in 2020 & 21 but since the hrmc have taken control there is a lack of understanding that within a family unit to keep baby's, toddler's, kids warm during the cost of living, high fuel bills & covid, It felt that I was in the wrong when I had to fight what we was intitled to, wasting serval months, waiting & waiting. Hope this time its a lot lot better. Only time will tell.

Mum had this applied automatically out of the blue the other day. She wasn't eligible last year when it all changed but was the year before when you had to apply manually. I assume the eligibility criteria must have changed this year as nothing has changed to her benefits, she's still as disabled as she was last winter.
