Cost of getting a key cut

Posted 25th Nov 2023 (Posted 19 h, 42 m ago)
I got a front door key cut at the local locksmith shop for £12. It is a standard key for a union lock, like this one below. It seems on the high side, is this the average price for a key cut?

Reason I am asking is that this was in May and I need to get another one cut so wondered if I should shop around or if this is the sort of standard rate for the south east.

    I didn't know b&q cut keys?

Update - I just looked up my local b&q and it says it offers key cutting, which is the "mykeymachine". Saw a YouTube video on how to use it, and it looked pretty good.

I will give it a go as £11 sounds steep. Do you know what happens if the key doesn't work? With a shop, they will refine the cut or give you a refund. What happens with these machines? (edited)

The 3 for £10ish key machines mykeymachine.com/ might be an option if there is one nearby.

About 5 years ago I needed 2 keys cut.
Found it was cheaper to buy a new lock and get 3 new keys with the lock.

Yeah, if it costs me £33 for 3 keys, I could probably buy a lock for less, if it was just a standard Yale lock.

I was quoted £4 for a key so now we just leave the door open.

Personally I found it cheaper to replace the entire lock as it came with 4 keys...

If its the ones asda cover than my local DIY store was actually cheaper £2.50 to £3 can't remember but asda had offer 3 for something can't remember. But if you call the stores that have it, they could tell. You the price. Dont see it online.

3 for £10 ish if you can find a supermarket with a machine.
I've seen them in The Range, and a large Asda
