Also you can get a household membership for £10 good for 2 adults living at the same address plus any children travelling with you if you have a family railcard using discount code 'ATOCJF-13'

Wowzer. Well done for holding your nerve and knowing the facts. A lot of ppl would've paid up

I wasn't being so brave....I just figured it was worth checking online again (hence leaving the ticket office) - if the trainline £14 price wasn't still available, I simply would have aborted the trip! (it was a non-essential journey...the decision to travel was based on the £14 ticket!)

Heads up about the scamsters that Main Station concourse rail ticket offices are.

I wanted to travel London Waterloo to Poole last week...checked the trainline ...£14 off peak - decent price. One thing led to another & I never booked but thought I'd just get from the ticket office on the day at Waterloo - I queued for 5 minutes, gets to the ticket serving hatch & the disinterested looking woman browsed up & down on her (android) device (I was shocked - they used to have dedicated ticket machines!) ...anyway she says "that'll be £56" - I said "Eh? the trainline had this journey as £14" ...she said, "To get that price you have to book 24hrs in advance"...so I went out of the ticket office, used my mobile to book a ticket for £14 (for a train leaving in 15 minutes time) via the trainline - the ticket was physically dispensed at the ticket machine using the code the trainline gave me.

So a complete load of BS spouted off by those in the ticket offices....they wanted 4 times the price!!! Shysters.

The ticket office is right, the special £14 promo (which has now ended) was supposed to be booked by the day before - the terms and conditions are here: https://www.southwesttrains.co.uk/offers--days-out/offers/closedpromotion/autumn-tcs/

Maybe there was a glitch on the Trainline website that allowed you to buy it when it shouldn't have been available.

So it looks like you got lucky. But in future don't use Trainline. They charge booking fees that the train companies don't charge. Sometimes the train companies have cheaper tickets not available on Trainline. It's always best to check the website of the train company you're travelling with. But first check Megatrain.com, they have tickets from Waterloo to Poole starting at £1 each, plus 50p booking fee. I've just looked and there are £1 tickets available a few weeks in advance.

Thank you I just saved £6 off my senior card. I paid £24 the same as last year. 1 trip pays for this , I usually save around £200 over the course of a year using my railcard
last year we got a £10 off, so I got my yearly one for £20. It expires the end of July. Anyone think they'll do this discount again, or is £24 the best we're going to get this time round?
£70 for three years is a better offer...
Aww wish this worked on children's railcards i have 2 annual passes to but for kids to get to and from school sept
Does the discount stack with the NUS discount?

The code does not work any longer
just used to renew my out of date railcard, thank you!
Will have to look into this. My hubby starts his new job in Bristol soon and was going to train it instead of car so taking petrol and bridge into consideration this may be the cheaper option. He is doing his masters so is able to get it.

Cold, cheaper to drive even with this. Would rather spend on half a tank of diesel.

I don't have a car... insurance is too high and living in London is great for public transport.

so it's quite hot actually.

RUGAAL this railcard only gives 1/3 off any off-peak fare, so will only work if you have an off-peak travelcard. Like you, I hoped this would save me a lot of money on my peak commute! Still, its useful to get your railcard 'linked' to your Oyster (by asking any underground ticket office -can't do it online) as this automatically deducts a 1/3 for off-peak travel at the weekend. Saves me a few quid every week to spend on more hukd things I dont need!

Good deal. Heat added. I just renewed mine last week, wish I waited but oh well.....heat added.

Exact thing happened to me! Haven't used it in the last week so I could have waited.
How does this works with oyster and or monthly zone cards like zone 1-2/1-6/2-6 for example?

With friends and family an off peak travelcard is reduced from £8.90 to £5.90 and a child's from £3.60 to £2.00. Don't forget that under 11's travel free off peak on the underground anyway.

You need £14 worth of tesco vouchers to be able to buy the train ticket through tesco site
So for tesco club card users you need to have 14 quid worth of points to get this or do I receive a voucher for being a club card holder which enables me to buy it for 14 even if I didn't have that much on the card...

It is no more ageist than free bus passes for the elderly or not selling cigarettes to under 18s.

Hardly enough to view it in a negative light in the context of this deal without being pedantic.

You can use it on peak, there is a minimum ticket price but it is still discounted somewhat, they removed only being able to use it after 10am restriction a couple of years ago.

Is this not age discrimination, which is illegal? Substitute '16-25 Young' for men/white/lesbian/christian/muslim/black, just saying ;)
This is basically a benefit for students. If you can prove that you are a student(provide scanned university admission letter or something(better check their requirements)) and even if you are 50, you can get this card which gets you 33 percent off each time you travel. Also you can load this 33 percent discount on your london oyster(if u commute within london) and hence can get 33 percent off on your each individual off peak journey(on payg). Hence no age related discrimination. :) can call it occupation related discrimination but then again student arent the richest people on this planet. The other day some one was saying that senior citizens shouldnt get so many benefits as it was discrimination against young ones.... Lol

Nice one. I am a full time student and over 50, thanks :)
Does any one know when the 20% off expires? is it the same date?

This 10% off code has been around for years.

I believe the 10% or 11% (or both) can only be used for a 1 year one, not 3 year.
Just remember its got a minimum fare of £12 before 10am monday-friday (except July/August + BH) so if planning use for short trips you won't see much/any benefit. except this the card can save you lots of money for a regular traveller.
