Can you post a deal for the crystal ball you just used?
Also, would you rather not be informed when products can be bought for less than they were previously? If so, it's quite simple - don't visit HUKD any more.
And I've shopped with them for ages, good retailer.
EDIT: Buy this from the TodayOnly page and save 5 quid.

It's something to do with SSD memory chips being manufactured on a smaller process node (sub-34nm I think). I'll try and find an article on it.
Here you go (first few paragraphs explain it better than I do!):

Also another edit, but the '3K series' are silver/grey drives, not silver/blue like the photo shown above - the silver/blue ones are the 5K rated drives (as far as I know).

Yeh I had read about this, but as you mentioned it doesnt really worry me as 3000 cycles will last around 8 years (on normal PC usage) and by that time i'll have a nice 5TB SSD in its place
So what you're saying is you've decided against ordering the 3k version, labelled as the 3k version, because there's confusion that the 3k version might not actually come as the 5k version by mistake? And mainly because for some reason you'd set a download folder as one on an SSD? If my desk was cleaner I'd find room to bang my head on it
Didn't realize I hadn't put the today only price (that's where I saw it) I've adjusted the price

Good to have read of a few reviews, they speak very highly of this particular drive

Is there any advantage in having 240gb over the 120gb apart from the extra capacity for a desktop?
Browsing through some of the SSD deals I assume that a SSD is only beneficial as a boot drive, in which case is 128gb not big enough?
I think it's beneficial for everything, just in varying amounts. Any programs you install on the SSD should load faster.
plewis00 - The silver/blue is usually associated with the 5K model, I guess the got they pic wrong, happens time to time.

I had the 240GB HyperX (non 3k) version myself and it was blistering fast and I never had any issues with it at all.
I think its probably a picture error on scan, as stated above, the 3k series is black and grey and the 5k is blue and grey.... so if we get a blue/grey one its all good
I wouldn't mind the slightly shorter life of these as long as I could monitor my usage.

3K P/E Cycles
NAND Capacity 100GB
Writes per day 10GB
Write Amplification 10x
P/E Cycles per Day 1
Total Estimated Lifespan 8.219 years
Assuming you write 10GB to your drive every day (on the high end for most client workloads), and your workload is such that the controller sees an effective write amplification of 10x (due to wear leveling/garbage collection the controller has to write 10x the amount of data to NAND that you write to host), you'll blow through one p/e cycle per day. For 25nm 3K p/e cycle NAND that works out to be 8.219 years, at which point your data will remain intact (but presumably read-only) for 12 months. Heavier workloads come with higher write amplification factors, but for client use this math works out quite well.

Can you do an AS-SSD result as well please?
It's right at the bottom of this page if you don't already have it...

Not possible, I don't even have my laptop with me. That picture was the one I published on amazon a few months back.
Don't get me wrong I think they are great, but do we really need a post everytime they drop £10 or £20.
Yes, as it's a deals site
At this price im afraid theres only one drive and thats the Samsung 830, with cashback its the same price and is regarded as a fantastic robust drive, if i knew for sure this was the 5k version i would of had one but scan dont tend to get things like that wrong meaning the picture is probably wrong not the description. If it is a 5k version it will be on today only again and i will grab one then, id appreciate someone posting which drive they get on Friday so we all know.
Either way a good deal.

I don't think anyone was expecting this to be the 5k version, its listed as 3k in the title on the scan webpage (granted its not on the today only page, but when clicked it links to the 3k version) I download a lot of tv shows so it'll be interested to see how it copes, although I don't foresee it being a problem for a long time to come
When mine arrives on Friday I'll confirm the model (although I'm expecting the 3k)

I find that very difficult to believe. I bought a monitor from scan, found quite a few dead pixels on it and requested a return within 24 hours which they rejected and they we're also quite rude over the telephone.
Yeah, I've also found that Scan are only good until you have a problem. They pretty much hate you if you have a single issue with something you've bought from them. I try to not buy from them but when I do I tend to look at the items as having the warranty with the manufacturer only.
I had an item that failed within 3 months, replaced on site, no problems.
The item then failed again a month later. When I explained that I was in Australia, and wouldn't be back in the UK unitl a few weeks after the 12 month warrranty ran out, they insisted that I would have to return the item before then. No flexibility.
