3 reasons: cheap quality, cheap labour and they make millions. It probably costs them 20 to 30p each therefore they still make a profit
I bet they cost more like a couple of pennies to make these in bulk.
800 quid to ship a container from china to UK.. you can fit millions of these in a container
Makes me chuckle how you can get actual products from the furthest corners of distant continents for less than the cost of posting something to get to next door.
Yas
62p for all the raw materials that make up this lead, suppliers network, a factory with all the costs that involves, transportation on a ship travelling half way round the world, finally our Royal Mail service delivering to my door. How do these companies make money? It's bonkers!

I got the black 32gb at 98$ which is 77£.
It's for the wife, who wanted that colour.
I'll wait to see how it is before getting one for myself - more from never having used this process before that anything about the phone.
Thanks for all advice to everyone.

The 4x is still a very good phone for the price, but it does have a slower CPU than the Pro in this deal.
and only 720 screen and poorer gpu

But (importantly for many) it does support B20. A proper global version of the 4 Pro would be perfect for me.

Gobbywood - when are you going to stop asking so many questions? Just buy a phone already!

Why don't you move on to China where this phone will really work and harass people in UK who need UK bands like the B20 4G band.

"we will open the original box to check the phone and install Multi-language ROM and Google play store. The custom rom may not perfect,Not support OTA update, translation may does not cover all the menus. We may update the ROM,so the OS version may different as the screenshots."....I thought that these global versions came sealed and untampered with??

It's possible that HK Goldway have a general template for their listings which are mostly China version with Global ROM installed themselves, but have forgot to modify that section to reflect the Global Version differences. Their Redmi Note 4 Global Version listing says the same thing. The paragraph speaks of custom ROM and not supporting OTA updates even though they have stated Official ROM with OTA updates 3 times prior to that section.

Dreami's Redmi 4A listing<< states one of the differences of Global Version is that it is sealed, which is what it should be. This 4A unboxing video<< bought from Gearbest shows a sealed Global Version, that has multi-language, Google Play and is Global ROM on first boot. So HK Goldway would have no reason to tamper with the ROM, but I'm not sure if they still would open since they also say "to check the phone".

i would either insist on it coming sealed or just be prepared to flash the global ROM on its arrival.
it should be ready to do through the updater app.
this seller is obviously putting a custom ROM on it, which will likely have bloat and dodgy apps on it

I might just pay the extra for the same on banggood for a sealed one...cheers

My OCD goes into meltdown with these 600 in 1 style carts / games, they're an absolute mess... Why not just say 16 in 1 or 20 in 1, they'd still sell the same...
Because they wouldn't sell the same. It's proven (by my experience..:p) that the people generally buying these things have no idea, I imagine many of us bought these 1200 in 1 carts when we starting out, I certainly did for the GBC.
So I am one of those who has no idea, I'm confused now so does this actually come with 600 games? Thanks.
Yes but they duplicate each ROM like 10 times to make the numbers go up.

Pay the tiny premium for a redmi 4 prime much better processor, graphics, more ram, higher resolution screen in honesty total no brained. BTW this is 8x1.4ghz not 2ghz
Would love this version but no B20?

Yep, was just about to jump on this but if there's no global version with B20 then it's a show stopper.

Wonder why so many negatives for this? There doesn't seem to be much around to compare with this for the price if you want a 5 inch phone (and I agree with others, 5inch screen is perfect, 5.5" is just too bulky).

I'd say the 'xiao' is like the 'shao' in shaolin so it'd be more like shao-me.
no it is as i said its pronounced HOW MI but with a S so SHOWMI here is link to the official MI5 launch on youtube where at about 3mins in you will here Hugo Barra pronounce it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCMrCIM8TdA&t=78s

How are you hearing the hard 'ow' sound you'd get when saying 'show'? When he first says it at 3:02 it's not a hard 'ow', it's an 'ao'. And the Mandarin pronounciation also emphasises 'ao' part: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/2c/Xiaomi_pronunciation.ogg
So I'm not sure how you're pronouncing 'show' but it sounds like the start of shaolin, in both cases.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2MY0Xhl7dQ
0:50 emphasis on the raised 'ao' sound when he's explaining it. He then says think of 'show' but like saying 'shower'. The 'show' component of 'shower' is different from saying 'show'. So perhaps that's how you're trying to portray 'show' but by itself, most people would say it like 'shoh' whereas 'show' in 'shower' sounds more like 'shao'-er.

Anyone stung with custom fees. Lol
You boys are right, the freebie screen guard is complete ****, wish I'd just left the frosted finish factory fitted one on now.
Those who have already received theirs may have noticed that swine MIUI keeps shutting down background apps and we not let them restart on boot!

Trying to give permissions to apps can also be hit and miss as it won't let you select the allow option!

Very annoying... Xiaomi need to concentrate a little more on quality of software and testing than churn out millions of phones full of software bugs!

glad I'm not the only one who thinks the protector makes it look crap lol.

its £100 phone so if the screen gets smashed can always by another one can't do the same with an Galaxy or iPhone (_;)
I'm not going to both with a screen protector. At this price I think I'd rather take the risk. They definitely make the screen look worse when on.
HammerTime10
OK I'm sort of in 2 minds with this or any kind of glass protector for this phone...

it sort of take away from the lovely screen and sort of cheapens the feel.

also thickens it and you can

might look into the more plastic/film kind of protectors which just wrap the whole screen and just protects from scratches.

anyone go for this?
Phone arrived on Monday 22nd, so thats only 9 days to the door from China! Customs was listed as "Mobile Pone $22".
First impressions are good, a million times faster than my old Lumia 520 (stop laughing at the back.. there were reasons...) For me it's very quick, fast enough to do anything I want, swapping between a dozen apps is instant. Screen is nice, not watched much video yet and haven't taken many photos. About the right size, not small or big. Not even put my sim card in yet, just setting everything up on wifi and playing with it as a mini tablet so far to see how it goes. Charger is not great though, it's a 2-pin plug and they sent me a multi-adapter which converts almost anything to a UK plug so it ends up bulky. Useful for something no doutb, but I'll just use my other UK chargers instead.... Can't say I can see any reason to pay £500 for a phone, or even £200 over this. The Lite is on Amazon at £135, the U Plus at £189, this U was on the other day for about £160 iirc... It's on Marshmallow, but the manufacturers website has Nougat to download specifically for this model which I will do at some point.

I believe this uses Sony's latest and greatest camera module, and the screen quality is very good... Don't believe the hype that 1080 is not good enough for a 5.15 inch screen. The only arguement might be of you want to use it for VR.
Lots of comments on the lack of warranty... Has anyone actually tested the warranty offered by AliExpress and The Warranty Group? What's the basis for it being worthless?

6gb of ram is not needed in a phone and in real use the camera is not great.

With software updates the camera will improve. 6gb Ram must be of some use as it out performs the Samsung S8 in performance (which has 4gb Ram)

Depends how fast the ram is. More ram doesn't necessarily mean better performance.

Check on youtube Mi6 vs Samsung S8. It absolutely blows the Samsung S8 away!

Ok I get it but it's not entirely down to the ram....

Ok I get it but it's not entirely down to the ram....

Nice phone but the price is all wrong at the moment, probably caused by short supply.

This retails for the equivalent of £280 in the Far East, so £350 makes absolutely no sense.

I suspect that you'll see prices drops on this within the coming months and by early next years, I suspect you'll be able to get it for around £250.

I highly doubt the price would drop that much. The previous model Mi5s is still going strong even after a year from release. The Top model still goes for around £320.

Crazy, take a look at today's Mi5s deal. I am surprised.

Andybro. It is a good price

Always nice to get another option for a case as there ain't many out there. Heat!
Just looked at the linked page and one of the early reviews talks about the signal being reduced, so it looks like this case isn't any sort of new design. A lot of people might not mention this because they don't notice (not everyone lives or commutes to a low signal area or uses their phone far away from their WiFi) or because they don't use the case long enough to notice. As I said though, one person mentioning it is enough, as it surely isn't going to be an issue exclusive to one person, so unless they're lying I don't see why it would matter if not many people mention it.

I'd be intrigued to know if Android Pay still works as well with this case on, as I've not used NFC payment since I last tried an aluminium case.

Looks extremely similar to this case, which doesn't seem to have great reviews re quality or signal. I know it's an iPhone but the principle is the same. LINK

I’m sorry, but that’s not good logic. Have you even read those reviews? The most common complaints are that it comes all scratched up and doesn’t fit. Signal is mentioned, but it is not the main issue people are complaining about. Read the reviews of the item I posted - next to NOBODY has those complaints in the 79 pieces of feedback the item has received. Just because you think it looks visually similar doesn't therefore mean that every aluminium phone case was made in the same factory in China by the same manufacturer and has the same faults.

I'm mainly going on previous experience - many of these people might not have been in a scenario where they have noticed but the fact that it is mentioned at all is a bad sign.

I have a Vodafone Ultra 7 at moment. Battery sucks, it was nippy at first but has slowed down. Sluggish and gets hot easily. Signal and GPS fine but I intend on getting a sim only deal in new year. Tired of daft prices of flagship phones. I intend to flash AOSP ROM on Note 4 when arrives.

I'm pretty sure they're plastic ends then. This is a side by side of the original Mediatek with Snapdragon.
https://i.gyazo.com/a05607f8c18de96f3985a517d1acc99d.png
The Mediatek (left) has full metal body and thick antenna lines so the signal can get through. Whereas for the Snapdragon, those thin shiny lines aren't actually antenna lines. They're the finishing of the edge of the metal and the signal can pass through the plastic ends instead. Xiaomi calls them CNC-finished "separation lines"

Does the top and bottom feel the same as the rest of the back? It should be plastic that is coloured or painted to match the rest of the back which is metal, but it will have a slightly different colour tone, which should be noticeable if you move it about in light.https://i.gyazo.com/38dbfc131763cad1865304932b0cc850.png

Ordered...good deal. I have a cruddy Virgin Superhub 2 - 2.4ghz often drops out....and the range is terrible. Not sure whether to use this as a repeater to see how well it extends (but suspect will still get the dropouts) .....or attempt to use it with SH2 in modem mode. Only downside then would be the 100mb ports intead of gigabit
Tenda is a well-established brand. There is nothing remarkable about it, but nothing wrong either.
Can you use it to connect to wifi and distribute over Ethernet WITHOUT it rebroadcasting the wifi, which most repeaters do. So as a wireless to Ethernet bridge.
Would this work with a Sky router?
I've used a few products from Tenda I can said they are nothing to write home about. Every router I tested never gave the speed that it sad it could handle. That annoyed me the most. I have hight speed internet and these devices say they can move speeds up to such and such but they never do. Yes they are cheap but they are quite cheap in how they work also.

Yes tell it to the networks who spent millions buying the B20 bandwidth from the government. They were so stupid they did not consult you or the Chinese Government to decide which bands to use. Don't tell porkies here.
EE started using B20 November 2016. They bought it in 2013. According to you and your logic, their network must not have been functional before that point despite them having the widest UK coverage even prior to that. The millions of UK customers they service must not have received 4G before 6 months ago since they weren't using B20 until then. Don't mistake a network's purchase of bandwidth and desire to expand coverage to suggest that it is essential for everyone in the UK. Three don't use their B20 in the same way. They use it for their 4G supervoice which only a select number of phones, can utilise. EE were stupid not to consult you and deploy it sooner since according to you it is "best 4G band" apparently. Three were stupid not to consult with you so that their B20 works in the way you perceive it to.
"Don't tell porkies here" says the person who has stated:
- I only post non B20 phones when I haven't posted a single one
- Non B20 phones are mini tablets in UK and only work in China even though plenty of HUKD members use them
- Gearbest contacted you in email months ago asking to post on here and be paid so you want nothing to do with them despite ending up posting a Gearbest deal
- That UK credit companies refuse to help if it's a purchase from abroad, in response to someone stating over £100, even though they are required to by law... etc etc.
You've been outed as a liar many times when you've tried to make your opinion seem more valid, yet you accuse other people of lying amongst many other things, when they oppose your opinion.
You still dont get my point . There is no need to buy phones without B20 in the UK. http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/letv-leeco-le-pro-3-5-5-inch-2-5d-4gb-ram-32gb-rom-snapdragon-821-b20-nfc-4070mah-2676406

No, it's you that doesn't get the point. It's not a case of you just thinking there is no need in getting a non B20 phone considering you will outright lie about it being essential and say non B20 phones won't work in UK. You won't accept your opinion is not applicable to everyone else. You continue to ignore the fact people with non B20 phones use 4G perfectly fine.

There are phones with B20 & NFC ,why buy phones without them .
"Because not all people need them". It's a simple answer, but one you cannot accept. You have told people on Lenovo ZUK Z2 threads, that the ZUK Z2 Pro is a better buy for £100 more because it has B20. This is a deals site. People are enticed at the idea of spending less for what they need/want. If they don't want to spend more on something they don't need, that's their choice but you cannot accept that and try to dictate it for them. B20 is not essential. Stop lying to other people about the implications of not having it, with your biased opinion.
I don't go promoting non B20 phones which you have accused me of. Anytime I have discussed B20 with a person who is unaware of it, I will give information that is not influenced by opinion and let them decide for themselves whether they believe it is necessary. Whereas you will spread misinformation about it being essential to make your opinion seem more valid and then if people don't agree, you'll believe it's because they aren't getting your point? oO
You are entitled to your opinion and your phone shaped object but I will never agree to it. I think lack of B20 is very serious defect in phone supposed to be used in UK . Also no need to buy these phones as no shortage of phones available with B20 support.
Its really getting annoying seeing your stupid comments on every phone thread. It the equivalent of moaning on every car deal that it doenst have a 6th gear when 1-5 is perfectly fine for most people.
I am sat here now with my MI5 (Brace yourself.....) with no band 20! and I have full 4G signal and easily pull over 30 mb/s.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but you are totally misinforming people and making it out like their phones wont work.

Strange that you speak of opinion entitlement when all your comments imply that any opinions which oppose your own are incorrect. Whether or not you agree to it makes no difference whatsoever because it won't invalidate the opinion nor does it make your opposing opinion, factual. I don't agree with buying Apple or Samsung but that doesn't change the fact they're the 2 biggest selling smartphone brands. Your continual lies in favour of your opinion won't change the fact that phones which lack B20 are perfectly useable in UK even on 4G. People have different opinion. You seem to be under the delusion that it's a case of them being wrong and you being right, which it's not. The sooner you realise that, the better it will be for the rest of HUKD.

There are phones with B20 & NFC ,why buy phones without them .

Trust me, no one really cares what you post any more, you've become tedious and predictable.

Sent from an xiaomi mi max (without band 20) from a very rural location..

Any links for cases please....preferably flip with protection front and back?
Seems I can only find cases that have the infrared thingy in the middle but I believe it's actually next to the mic on these phones...
The Global Version Redmi Note 4 shares the same updated housing as the 'Redmi Note 4X' (IR on right) so search for that instead when looking for cases as those will have the correct hole placement, whereas listings that just say 'Redmi Note 4' will almost always be for the original housing (IR in middle). Redmi Note 4X flipcase listing showing the correct hole placement. Xiaomi has an official flipcase too.
Thank you. Do you know if the official one has a kind of plastic window covering the viewing area or is it just an open cut out with the phone being directly exposed? Hard to tell from pics...
A plastic window. Here's an unboxing video of the same case. If you're wondering why the packaging for it says Redmi Note 4 on the back rather than Note 4X, it's because the Indian RN4 also has the same updated housing like RN4X and Global Version RN4, so their local official accessories will be labelled for RN4. At about 2:06 you can see the top showing IR blast on right.
Thank you so much for this, spent so much time today looking for the one, and this is it.
Finally, do you know if anyone in the UK is selling it or is gearbest the only place to get it and how long do they usually take to arrive?
Thanks again!
I don't think there's anyone in UK selling it. Probably 2-3 weeks is the usual estimate but it can vary. Some stores on AliExpress sell it too but would likely take around the same amount of time to arrive. If you want one from UK, the Nilkin flip case on Amazon is an alternative but I'm unsure if this has a plastic window or not and it would cost half as much on Banggood (from China).
Have a look below, this would suggest that there is in fact a plastic window in the case cut out, HTH

Never bought this Chinese brand.
Does it come with Chinese Apps pre-installed? If so, easy to disable / remove?
Does it come with Google Play already installed?
Thanks in advance for any watch-outs
No Chinese apps and came with Google Play pre-installed.
