Fakes! Just my opinion
grillnun
what is the difference between a rev 8 and a rev 9?

Some TV's can only be operated by rev9 remotes. Many of the technikas and I suppose the other own brands especially.
they are free from sky i had one 2 months ago
Not free from sky, only spoke to them last week and was advised to buy from ebay as it's cheaper than them.

Good entry level DSLR. I would possibly go for the Nikon D3100 though in that price range.

But i've had one of these before, and body is body, check flickr, produces some great images, invest in glass and your sorted!

im thinking of buying a dslr for my dad for chirstmas, what do you guys think is better? Canon 1100D or the Nikon D3100?

Is used to be Canon for glass but Nikon for sensor.

However, in the last few years, it's Canon Canon Canon.

And your investment will always be glass.

Until you buy a Fuji X100s!!!

Really tempted to add one to my next build but i've blown my upgrade savings on the 4770k and motherboard.
Would it offer a dramatic improvement over the 120gb Vertex 2 I currently use?

Will make Metal Gear seem like a Different Gear compared to the Vertex 2, over 100% faster read and write alone!

Got a vertex 4 128mb and a sammy evo 128mb in almost identical vps rack setup, the vertex struggles to match the sammy in some processes, mainly seq R/W EG: going back and forth to the drives with raw scraped data, thus, if in a gaming enviroment overclocked setup, sure you will see even more difference :-)

Example:

http://s12.postimg.org/yal73lbdp/image.png
Please don't spout crap like that. Benchmarks do not reflect real world performance...
I've been using SSD's since 2009, and have built many PC's with a multitude of different brand/generation of SSD's, and the differences even since early generations can be minimal depending on what you are doing.

Talking about seq r/w speeds in a VPS means nothing to someone using an SSD in a standard desktop/laptop setup, where seq speeds are less important than access times.

No, you would not see a dramatic improvement. In fact, you probably wouldn't notice any difference at all.

I suggest you start paying more attention if you can't tell the difference between early SSD's and the latest. You give terrible advice and yet damn others for giving clear benchmarks.
I damn others for claiming better synthetic benchmarks equal a substantial difference in real world performance for the casual user/gamer, and telling them their games will run much faster, because the truth is they mean little and anyone that says otherwise is talking utter rubbish. I know this, I've been building/selling/repairing systems as a second job for over 15 years (my day job is also IT hardware related).

The fact you think I can't tell the difference between different generations of SSD's means you clearly did not understand my point in the first place.
You are backing up someone that is using the quoted sequential read/write speeds as the basis for his argument... that in itself is a joke.

In my personal systems, I started with a Corsair P128 in 2009. Have since had an Intel X25-M G2, Intel 320, Crucial M4, and currently have a Samsung 840 (standard, not pro). The difference in general app and gaming use has been minimal from one generation to the next, and the gap between oldest and newest is nowhere near as big as people like 008 or yourself would lead others to believe.

What are you going to tell me next, 2400Mhz RAM will give me higher FPS in BF4 than 1600Mhz?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking this SSD, it's a great piece of kit, but telling someone to spend £130 on something that they will see little to no difference compared to their current hardware is just plain wrong. I don't like to see people wasting their hard earned money.

Tell me why you upgraded then? if it made hardly any difference seems a bit of a waste.
Any good for a Dell xps702x?

Will I notice a big difference (no SSD)?

Edited By: glenbois on Oct 21, 2013 17:14: abc
A Flubit offer of £122 has tempted me a little more.
Just need to decide whether the incremental speed improvement and double capacity is worth it at this moment in time.

Perhaps I should see how the Vertex 2 performs on the 1150 chipset. The relatively slow bios on my 1156 setup is possibly slowing it down at the moment.
Thanks for the advice.

If you have an ipad there are two very good apps for simple writing and typing. They are word wizard and writing wizard and are £1.99 each. Word wizard has querty and a-z keyboard and simple numbers. The typed messages can be replayed with a range of voices . My 4 yr old grand daughtrr can use it to communicate eith her uncle who is profoundly deaf
Wrtiting wizard allows letters an numbers to be inputted with finger or stylus with or without on screen guides.

Both are very good value for money and feedback from the developer is very good. The developer is l'escapado, who also do similar products for different languages. Worth a look on you tube.
