Mine landed today, very impressed with it, decent quality and would have happily paid more, even came with inserts so it will fit my 2yo now and for years to come.

Just got to persuade "the boy" to wear it now!
Brill just what I was looking for! Although struggling to choose a colour!

Seems like a nice Road bicycle for little money. STI levers, Alloy frame, dual pivot brakes ... Worth my consideration...

" a start to leading a more active lifestyle"...Oh the bike snobbery. ....
very aptly put

OK, I'll bite. I've now had the opportunity to look at this bike up close.

Comments about 'weighing a few more Kg' and 'snobbery' are all very well, but this forum is about getting a good deal, and part of a good deal is getting something fit for purpose for a good price. Consider the often used 'Cheap, Strong, Light - Pick Two'. In a genuinely good deal you should get all three.

This bike weights a significant amount more than bottom-end road bike from a 'big name'. The difference of a 'few more Kg' is more then a throwaway line and I'd stand behind a statement that, once you gain fitness, you'll rue those 'few extra' Kg if you want to go fast, which means that, if you're a purchaser in it for the long haul (so looking for a good deal) this could cost you more because there is no upgrade path. Or you may simply not enjoy riding it and give up.

If you're happy riding a steel 20 year old racer, good on you. (You won't burn more calories or get a higher heart rate, I'll just go faster and further), and if that's you then this is the bike for you. My point was only that you may not feel that you're that person, in which case my advice would be to spend a little more for a better bike because this represents the peak of this particular bike genre as opposed to the base of the next level up.

To be clear, this is sold on the web site as being a "Great bike for getting fit on, daily commute or as a winter training bike." - I think that mirrors my comments almost exactly (although I wouldn't ride it as a winter training bike, my first Sora set didn't last a winter of almost daily rides due to corrosion, even with good maintance, and this won't either). The bottom line, for anybody casually seeing this bike in HUKD and deciding to buy, is that it is just as described by the seller. It is not a bad bike, but if somebody wishes to purchase it in order to go fast (or even keep up) they will be dissapointed eventually.

Given that, I don't think there was an ounce of snobbery in my initial post, just reasonable advice.

" a start to leading a more active lifestyle"...Oh the bike snobbery. Like the guys at the golf course that walk on with £1000 worth of kit and hit their tee shot into their bmw.

This bike looks the part. It has shimano parts. Its "extra" weight of a few kg will get you fitter. Most bikes last well beyond their wanted lifespan, personally I've never had a bike collapse on me.

The vast vast majority of people ride bikes either for convenience, fun or fitness. Unfortunately to 0.5% of people who enter races are the ones who write the reviews and troll every bike forum saying "you need to spend £1000 to commute 5 miles blah blah.

This afternoon I will do about 30 miles of hills on a steel 20 year old racer. I will burn more calories and achieve a higher heart rate than a MAMIL on a £3k carbon job.

If you have a Decathlon in your vicinity and it has the red Triban in stock in your size ( unlikely ) then have a look at it. Its a boring looking bike that will probably be worth the extra £50 quid. Alternatively for a nice looking aluminium bike with STI shifters you could do worse than this.

I'll word this carefully!

While this is a long, long way from being a competitive ride, if you want a road bike and this is as much as you want to invest then I think it represents good value compared to its competitors, mostly Viking and various eBay offerings. Usually threads like this attract the 'for £599 you can get a much better bike' comments, which are generally fair, but unhelpful if you've not got £599 to spend.

However, for an extra £60 the B'Twin Triban 3 offers better value and would be a bike you can do more with in terms of speed and technique in the long term. Given that bikes are holding their value well at the moment, I don't think you'll get something that's any good unless it's been thrashed to within an inch of it's life for £240 on eBay.

If you buy this bike get it for what it is - a way to get onto the roads more comfortably than on a mountain bike, or as a start to leading a more active lifestyle. Don't be under any illusions that you can upgrade components and make the bike better - none of the constituent parts of this bike is worth spending extra money on when bits wear out.
It is 12.5kg, which seems slightly heavier than its rivals. One interesting thing to note is that the company offers a service where a bike mechanic comes to your home to set it up properly for you - this is £45 extra but may be of interest to some.
