I purchased one but think its going to go back - I find the back, especially near the camera gets quite hot when using WiFi or any cpu intensive operation. Anyone else - or are all phones like this now?

Modern very thin phone with fast processor, perfectly normal.

Can someone confirm if this "upgrade" affects the account in anyway?
yes you can't have another upgrade for next 6 months at least.
nothing else i guess.
Is a new SIM not issued? if the old PAYG phone is VERY old for example?
Sorry I didn't get that but this deal was only for those who are current payt customers and due for an upgrade, usually once after every 6 months or so, if you buy a new sim sure you can buy a new phone with that too but price for new package would be different since that wouldn't be classed as an upgrade. i hope this helps as not sure what you meant to ask.

I bought the 16gb one for my missus the other day and was toying with getting the 32gb one for myself. As the offer's now off that's the decision made for me. The new Nexus devices are just around the corner so I wouldn't be surprised if the 5x and 6p are both reduced soon

Struggling to understand what the difference is between the more expensive SIM free one and this one. If they're both unlocked then this surely is the one to go for. Is this branded as EE in some way, boot screen for example?
No branding, this is a sim free brand new phone supplied with a ee sim card. You can use any other sim card you like.

Not a bad price I thought, especially with 5GB 4G data and on EE. 24 Month contract. Normally costs £843.75, but Quidco are currently providing £75 cashback on the S7/S7 Edge.

The title should show the total cost without Quidco which is £843.75.

This deal is OK but wouldn't say it's fantastic. A couple of weeks ago I got an S7 Edge with same monthly cost but £99 upfront and £110 Quidco. But CPW were also giving away the Gear VR headsets at the time too for S7 and S7 Edge purchases.

Quidco only tracked at £25.50 though and I've raised a ticket for them to look into.

Carphonewarehouse no longer has them in stock. They have been heavily discounted in the US. Any suggestions on where to buy one now. I'm looking for the 64gb version.
I'm trying to order my fourth Nexus 6p. After almost a year of having one, I've recommended and bought for family members. The build quality is exceptional but I do recommend getting the official folio case as the size makes you feel like you're always moments away from breaking it.

For those along about the camera, it's almost the best out there and I use it all the time to take photspheres and regular images. There level at which you can zoom into your photos without pixelation is stunning.
john54321
Can anybody confirm what the picture quality is like from the camera?
Was about to order the Oneplus 3 but not many positive reviews on the camera

Very good for still photos... especially in low light. I've got the 5X and it's my favourite over even my S7 edge as find the photos more natural and takes better photos in low light to me.
custardy
Gonna go view one instore tomorrow. Not sure If I can get on with a phone that size.
Plus I have been slating my mate for the size of his Iphone 6 Plus since he got it :o

It really is about the same if not bigger! It's what put me off! I've got a 5x but the battery is rubbish... Got the S7 edge now and that is about same size as 5X but with nearly screen of the 6P
Pity. I picked one up and its a decent phone.

The phone is dire you will be frustrated by it, we have them for work and everyone hates them heard nothing positive at all.
Why do WP posts on here always descend into app debates? If I wanted an Android phone, I'd look at an Android deal. If I wanted an iPhone, I'd look at the Apple deals. I wouldn't then go and mention apps either platform didn't have for the sake of what? Serves no purpose.
It's cheap because no one wants Windows based phones. They either want Apple or Android.X)
PaulHM
My advice is to buy a second SIM and top up the new SIM by £10 several times over 6 months and see what happens.

Agree that's what I do myself (Nokia 130 Dual SIM Handset) but the catch is a lot of the time CPW will not accept the upgrade and you have to get a manager over to fight tooth & nail to get it, with it being rejected a lot (especially in Aberdeen for some reason). :(
It's only £29.95 if you can get a Vodafone Upgrade and no top up

I uses this for a few months but ended up purchasing a different phone as it kept crashing to the point where it was unbearable. I couldn't type without the keyboard freezing (even after switching to the Google keyboard). The screen was often unresponsive and the battery didn't last long at all.
It would be a great phone if the software didn't glitch.

I wouldn't recommend this phone and I would suggest getting something else

If you want to upgrade to a usable Android phone as opposed to the cheapest possible Android phone then I would recommend the Huawei Y3 (Y360) which costs £15 on O2 and Vodafone and £20 on Virgin. Note that you can now only upgrade to Virgin in-store or by phone. I find my Huawei Y3 much more usable than the Alcatel One Touch Pixi that I used to own. This is because the Huawei Y3's screen is half an inch bigger.
To bouncy99 I can say the video quality with the camera I have is fine. It's actually better than a garmin dash cam used by a colleague.

It's not great but not bad. Not to be knocked at £4.99 for a spare phone. Or just set it up as a dashcam with a free app and a cheap windscreen mount from ebay. That's what I did with a recent cheap phone deal. Doubles as dashcam and emergency phone with a PAYG SIM in it.
the resolution and quality of that camera would make it one awful dashcam. you actually want to be able to see detail in the video, blurry nonsense wont be useful.

I voted cold because it looks like either the manufacturers or airtime providers have jumped on the bandwagon that people must have the latest phone and are prepared to pay for it. It would be interesting to see how much an S7 costs in some of our European countries where they earn half or even less what we do. A few years ago I had an S2 which was the top phone at the time on android. I was paying £20.00 a month for 24 months with unlimited texts, unlimited data, 300 mobile minutes and unlimited landline minutes. Whilst today's S7 has improved having a better camera, processor etc etc if you want to ring, text or email someone it is no better than anything else on the market. At one time only Apple commanded a premium price but now they are all very similar. For me I will stick to my G4 costing £320.00 + data package. Far better options buying the phone outright because if you want to change it you can. Top end phones are costing nearly double today what they were 6 or 7 years ago. I don't think wages have quite gone up by the same percentage. If you can afford it, great but personally I prefer not to waste my money on the latest tech and wait until it comes down in price. This is a good deal for a business user or someone who is self employed but I don't need 6gb data or unlimited minutes. From 7am in the morning I am focused on going to work until 6pm. My boss pays me to work for him and not checking facebook or whatever on my phone and when I am at home the wifi is free. The more people subscribe to £800+ deals the more the airtime providers will continue to exploit us.
smelladeal
When you consider the average UK wage (median) is just over 500 quid/week gross, 800+ for a phone over 2 years is a huge investment. Use caution. (_;)

£8 out of 500 per week is a lot? That's 1.6% of your weekly salary on something you spend so much time and can still get a decent price ~£80 when you sell it 2 years later.

I voted cold as you can get the S7 Edge from Vodafone via mobiles.co.uk for the same monthly contract BUT 100 upfront.

I have still yet to see a deal for an S7 attract any serious heat. Only thing I can think of is the cost as Samsung do make a great phone. £800 over 24 months is a lot to pay. Technology tends to come down in price as time goes buy but for some reason with smartphones they get dearer year on year. Such a shame that Samsung have priced on par with apple as am sure they should be a lot cheaper.

I got a p8 last year on that id mobile deal that went hot but only a few people got them (failed credit checks etc). I found it laggy from the get go. kept it a year, contract just ended and was less than the phone sim free so can't grumble. The earpiece failed and Huawei replaced it with a brand new phone because the p8 is covered by the VIP replacement service which was nice. I'm in the market for a new handset, finding this Nexus 5x a little slow but my experience of the P8 has put me off the P9 tbh. Just my tuppence worth anyway.

Terrible deal. The contract is worth about £50 and you can get the phone sim free from amazon for £340 (and it will only get cheaper). So about £110 down without even considering how thoroughly awful CPW are.
What about if the customer(s) don't use alot of data and the minutes are fine as these days people usually text...

Do CPW stopped doing Virgin upgrades?
You can now only do Virgin Mobile PAYG upgrade orders in store or by phoning the number on the web site. The Virgin deals are no longer the cheapest. For example the Huawei Y3 is now £15 on Vodafone and £20 on Virgin. I prefer the Huawei Y3 to the Alcatel 3 3 5 because its screen is half an inch bigger which is really important.

Getting anything to run on the 512mb of ram will be a nightmare - I tried bringing my tried and trusted HTC HD2 out of retirement (similar specs) to use as a backup when I was snowboarding and even with a lightweight version of Android (CM) it struggled so much I gave up.
But if you keep losing your phone on a night out or want one for someone who actually uses a phone for....wait for it....making and receiving calls, then you can't go wrong. Heat from me.
What do you need to qualify for a cpw upgrade?
A active sim card, which your network allow a upgrade on. I guess you haft to have spent so much with them. But you can try and see if you qualify for another upgrade. I done two now, and no extra money on the sim. lol Happydays

carphone warehouseCarphone Warehouse Beginnings and Growth

The company was established in 1989, by Sir Charles Dunstone, who is its current Chairman, and Julian Brownlie; both of them put in £6,000 as an initial investment. A year later David Ross, the company’s third partner, joined the company. Ross became the Finance Director and later led company development in continental Europe and the U.S. under The Phone House Brand. In 2000, the company underwent an IPO, and a year later Dunstone took over control of the company from his business partners. In 2008, half of the company was bought by Best Buy Europe, though because of very miserable financial results, a demerger took place in 2013; Carphone Warehouse bought half of Best Buy Europe shares for £500 million. A year later, the company merged with Dixons Retail and formed Dixons Carphone.

Carphonewarehouse.com – A Place to Compare it All.

The company divides its sales between two channels – retail stores, owning over 2,400 of them across United Kingdom, Ireland, continental Europe and the U.S. and the online website at www.carphonewarehouse.com. Following the company slogan “We compare, you save”, you can compare prices of mobile devices from different mobile operators and the chosen tariff (monthly payments and pay as you go; the choice of standalone devices is also available). The same applies to SIM cards and some other devices such as tablets. Plus, you can look for physical stores in your area by providing your postcode in the Store Locator.

The store is very convenient to use, and has received numerous awards, including “Retailer of the Year” in the Retail Week Awards with Oracle, “Best High Street Retailer” in the Mobile Choice Consumer Awards 2015, “Best High Street Retailer” in Mobile Industry Awards 2014, “Customer Experience Technology of the Year” award in the RetailWeek Technology Awards 2014.

The deals can apply to items from all categories, including pay as you go phones, pay monthly or SIM free / SIM Only options, and accessories. The company also has amazing seasonal offers – last year, a few days before Black Friday it launched an event that spanned all the way to Cyber Monday and offered great deals on chosen phones and tariffs. Another way to save some money is to make a trade-in and exchange your old phone for money.

Shopping at Carphone Warehouse

Choosing an offer and buying a selected product is super easy at Carphone Warehouse. The website is clean and the search bar is very convenient to use. This allows you to customise the offers that are presented to you. The only problem is that you can’t purchase pay monthly or SIM-only contracts if you are less than 18 years old. You don’t need to register an account prior to making a purchase on most things but the company offers a loyalty programme called Additions which makes it worth staying with them. It consists of three different parts: Insights – Expert advice and tips for your smartphone, treats – free gifts like free movies, games and eBooks, deals – compares the best available offers on devices for you and will remind you when you are due an upgrade.

Making an Order – It’s Really Easy

The way that you make a payment depends on the product of your choice. If you go with a monthly tariff, you have the option of direct debit to pay your bills in a convenient way. To pay for items upfront, you can use credit cards such as Visa, Visa Debit, Master Card and American Express. The company doesn’t process Maestro, Diner’s Club and Solo cards and accepts only credit cards issued in the United Kingdom. You can also top up your account upfront so that the network that you are with can use the funds when it’s time to pay your bills.

Immediately after you make an order, you will receive your first confirmation e-mail. When your order is accepted you get a second one – usually, one day after your order is shipped. The company delivers to the UK and Channel Islands only. There’s no cost associated with shipping apart from packages that are to be delivered on Saturdays (£7.50) and certain remote locations (£10). All phones, pay monthly SIM cards, free gifts and everything over £50 is delivered with DPD using next-day or nominate a day delivery options. All other items are shipped using Royal Mail. You can also use Click&Collect option to collect your item at the local Carphone Warehouse store.
