I know it will be good for apps not the best for games.
moving some apps can compromise performance also you need to buy very good and quick sd micro card samsung micro sd card evo plus or sandisk extreme pro 95mb/s uhs-I u3
If we get marshmallow that won't be a problem you would be able to choose to use the micro sd card as internal storage
4Real2016
DanTheManc
Good phone but only 8GB of memory. You can add a microSD card for music and photos etc.. but you can only load a few apps onto the phone until it runs out of storage.

You can set sd card as the default storage device, which like most android devices probably means cache and user data, but you can also move individual apps to sd card from app manager, not all can be moved but enough to make a difference.

yeah it is workable, but a bit of a pain nonetheless. I guess there are 2 downsides to this phone after all.

You can message them to chase it up...
Never had issues with quidco, always paid out for me.
Quidco is OK until a seller refuses your cash back no matter if your claim meets the original criteria. Quidco simply will not challenge the seller if you cash back is refused - end of story.
Had a problem with Rakuten a while back and I've not used Quidco since.

Yeah, that was pretty much the "service" I had from Quidco, can't remember who the purchase was with although it was a major brand place that I wouldn't have expected a problem.

I've found TCB thus far to chase things up a lot more satisfactorily.
Ordered per this deal yesterday - contacted via live chat to check delivery details, the advisor said the order had been cancelled.
Not heard anything via email, text, etc. Although the item was cancelled soon after by them they still took payment and now advising 5-7 days for a refund. Wont give an explanation to why cancelled.

Obv not anything to do w Quidco but just be wary of carphone warehouse. Even more annoyed that I could've walked in to apple store yesterday and picked one up - but like everyone you want to save where u can.
Are we sure this cashback is applicable on a phone only sale? Topcashback have a similar cashback but for new and upgrade contracts.

The phone doesn't really cost £600. It's marketed at this price to make these contracts look value for money.
seriously ?
Uh huh.
Surely they having a laugh at nearly a grand over two years. I don't care how much data it's got. 6 years ago I had a flagship phone with EE at £20.00 a month and unlimited data, texts and landline telephone. Can't remember what mobile limit, 500 mins maybe but over 24 months it cost me £480.00. 6 years on and this is double that. No wonder all these S7 deals are cold. Have a look at the following. Reasons not to buy an S7:

legacy ultimate internet sim, I've had the sim for years also pay £5 a month to bolt on unlim tethering (which apparently could end any time though) but this deal works for me. like I said everyone is diff and if you dont mind paying those prices this is an ok deal but personally I just can't see how any phone on the market today can justify these daft price tags based on how good cheaper phones are now
you are misleading in every way, never mind have a nice day. there is no sim card that gives you unlimited calls texts and data for less than £30
wow really? then i guess i've done a great job getting it with 3 for less than half that price and my girlfriend for £15 with virgin media... better deals are available you just have to be prepared to look and ask
i want unlimited calls and texts, and minimum 12gb of data with tethering please send me a link where I can get it

Great deal, exactly what I was looking for including the 64gb model. Quidco has tracked so for effectively £27.42 a month, this is an exceptional deal.
Thanks OP
I'm surprised this deal hasn't done better!!! I think the £65 is very likely to pay out.

Carphone Warehouse also has a good deal (that should qualify for £65 cashback) with 4gb data EE for 29.99 per month (£70 upfront fee).

It is an EE extra tariff (so inclusive minutes and texts in Europe).

SE means So Expensive
Yep, I suppose the fastest 4" phone on the market at a starting price of £369 is an absolute rip off..... Then again maybe not!
Just improved 5s which is £15 a month now, you need to be nuts to pay that money for SE. For that reason I am out.
Yeah. I mean; why would anyone ever get a new phone just because it offers improved or extra features? In a drawer somewhere; I have a couple of old Nokias. They don't even need whatever-G, so I could probably make a £10 pay&go sim last for a year or more.
/sarcasm

Personally; I think just the few headline improvements justify it; processor, battery, camera, Apple Pay, M9 co-processor, not-a-phablet.
And that budget iP5s is doubtless the base 16Gb model.

I'm sorry, I just don't believe it. But if you can show me where you got it I'd buy it in a heartbeat!

There were a few vodafone deals linked on here which worked out as £768 for the year (you'd have to cancel the 12 month contract immediately at the end) which are on a par with that pricing.

this is tempting , currently have a huawei P2, which is good but the battery life is dire, lasts 3/4 of a day with light use, changed for a new battery but still no better
Quidco are also offering me a £10 bonus special purchase, plus the usual £5 quidco with CPW, plus sell the £10 sim on eBay for another £5, so around £80 all in
but if the battery on this is not the best, ill be back to where i started with the P2?

I have the P8 Lite for a couple of months and its a very good phone but the battery life is rubbish.
The battery never lasts a day even on mimimum usage and it also takes an age to charge .
I previously had a Huawei Y550 ,that lasted 3 days on average.

The screen isnt bright enough either on the P8 Lite .
Apart from that though its a fine phone but Im going to sell it on and get something with a better battery.

Edit :After updating the phone to Marshmallow build 564 ,I am now getting 2 days out of the battery which is much better than Lollipop .

After having this for 7 weeks and using it for about 4 of those, I decided it wasn't for me. Don't get me wrong, it's an unbelievable phone for the price. I just couldn't get used to the Android OS compared to iOS, the size of it at 5" after using an iPhone 4s for years and there were just a few minor irritating things about it like button placement, having to use glitchy 3rd party apps to personalise it, nothing major. I suspect I'd have the same issues with a flagship Android phone like a Samsung S7 I guess?
Anyways, the purpose of this post is to say that I sold the phone in used (albeit immaculate condition) on eBay Sunday just gone for £115, cash on collection and the unused £10 SIM for £7. So after all the maths/fees, I've actually made a profit... 8) !! Okay only about a tenner but I won't grumble. I'm sure a new sealed one would sell for more than £115. Madness.
I'm getting an iPhone SE 64gb in Space Grey next week as my replacement, can't wait but obviously the £439 price is slightly more eye watering than the staggering cheapness of the P8 Lite.
If you're on the fence about purchasing one, I'd say go for it. Dip your toes and if you like it, great. If not then you can sell it and quite likely make a small profit, well at least while CW are currently selling them for £79 (I paid £89) and the P9 Lite is under wraps...
Ttfn :)
Good post, very neutral.

If you wanted to save some dosh however, have you thought about getting a refurbished 5S instead of the SE? There are some great deals on 32GB Grade B variants at the moment, with a 12 month warranty, via long-established eBay seller 'PlayGadgets'. Think the network locked ones are around £150 and not a lot more for the unlocked ones. Remember if you buy an EE-locked one, you can easily just pay EE £8.99 to get it unlocked even though it's preowned and you aren't the original owner.

A large screen Android device fan myself, but £150 is really tempting for an iPhone 5S. I can certainly see where you're coming from when you state that you prefer the way iOS works though. Android does indeed have its ups and downs, but so does iOS I guess.

Price has now gone up to £39.99 on PAYG upgrade (Virgin & Vodafone), £44.99 (O2).
This is typical of Carphone Warehouse where they have low prices for 3 weeks and then they raise them again. A clue to the prices going up could be seen in a leaflet that was being given out at Carphone Warehouse which said that the sale must end on the 6th of April. The only date in the Year when a sale is guaranteed is Black Friday.
Price has now gone up to £39.99 on PAYG upgrade (Virgin & Vodafone), £44.99 (O2).

Couldn't get it, to them I was lying up until the point I showed the website and at that point they changed their tune to "not our problem, it's not as if we are Carphone Warehouse or anything". I don't think the staff have any kind of process to find out information, a process to manually override prices in situations like this or a process to get something fixed about the company. So it makes sense why they are so defensive about it since they have no ability to do literally anything about it. Sent a complaint to the ASA about it which is silly because a normal company would have just given the £10 that one time and removed the ad from the website.
Yep, my in-store experience was similar, though the guy did sell me it (on O2 PAYG upgrade) for the £19.99 Virgin price in the end.

He had never heard of the PAYG upgrade price match, neither had his colleague. Showed him the page on CPW web site, he made a couple of calls to head office (or whoever it is in-store staff call with questions). From what I overheard, neither person he spoke to had any idea about it either!

I sent CPW a message via their web site about that experience. Ideally they'll actually do something about it (i.e. train their staff properly), but I'm not holding my breath...

Edited By: Donuts123 on Apr 06, 2016 20:34
Interestingly, it appears to have retained it's wireless for a week after the last reinstall so hopefully that is fixed.

I may even bung a SIM in soon .....
bbdom
Cheers - I might just do that.
I've done a complete phone reset and not pulled back any apps that I had installed on my old phone so it should give me a baseline as to whether the issue is OS dependent or a misbehaving app. If that doesn't cure the problem then I'll sign up on the insider program :)

Windows 10M apps are sandboxed....so rogue apps shouldn't be able to cause system wide problems.
Whatever problem you are facing is almost certainly caused by the relatively unfinished state of the OS. It is improving quickly though - as I am discovering by being in the Insider programme.

Nope, just voting you down for trying to cause unnecessary drama with your pointless dig at users of alternative phones ;)

Yeah they just shelved the 5S. Still quite a few shops and adverts in the press today with 5S 'deals' if you call them that. Still I imagine Apple won't want too much attentió
As I just posted on another thread, the 4S held at it's final price for months after being removed from the Apple line so I just don't expect the 5S to fall much more.. retailers have such low margins on these products they would probably lose money. That said the SE pricing is unusually good for Apple...
A few retailers (John Lewis, and Currys ) seem to have both the SE and 5S stocked. However the 5S is still priced high. How much 5S stock do we think is out there ?

Enough to dribble on for a few months probably! I had no problem finding 5S in stock - probably loads out there, but they are still selling.

Possibly worth keeping an eye on O2, and occasionally one of the bigger retailers like Currys will just move the stock on at no profit to clear inventory. With the 4S, a couple of retailers dropped a further £40 (to £239 from £279).

Does every S7 deal automatically go cold...
Edit - oh ignore that, says contract only now. Didn't when I looked an hour ago.

Seems they updated it, valid on the Edge also. Same conditions as Quidco it seems though, so probably no sim-free cashback. Still waiting on my money from my cancelled order last week, CPW cancellation procedure is terrible.

topcashback = not getting your cash back
go quidco
"only" 50 cash back BUT you'll actually get it
Still too expensive for an S7 IMO even with 50 off + VR headset (80 value). The headset will plummet in price this year as the market begins to become saturated with VR options - especially the better options like Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Playstation VR, etc

Never had any issue getting cashback on TCB. For times when something doesn't track I just put in a claim and it always gets resolved.

I'm guessing this S7 cashback will only be on contracts, and probably doesn't work with the S7 Edge. I've asked but they say to give 1-2 days to get back to me about it.

At Carphone Warehouse looking for a SIM only deal. Couldn't believe this but it's true! They called it a covert deal but it's online too.

can netflix or skysports only be used on the phone?
TCB are offering £63 cashback on this at the moment, making it the equivalent of £14.75 a month.
Red Value Bundle includes a 6 month entertainment pack from one of the following options†:

Netflix
NOW TV Entertainment Pass
Sky Sports Mobile TV on your mobile.
Spotify Premium
This is a great deal. Spotify is £9.99 a month and you get 12 month's free with this deal, plus unlimited texts and calls and 20gb of Internet. :)

Just got a letter from Three saying they were ending my Ultimate Internet SIM 200 monthly deal. I only use under 6GB a month and this is the best alternative I've found so far, especially with the included extras (Spotify or Now TV etc) and the £84 Topcashback. Why is it so cold?
Edit: just found the other thread!

I just took out Fibre Optic internet + Line rental (£17.40) with unlimited calls (£8 ) + Family Bundle TV (£18) = £43.40

Wondering if this'll work out cheaper, but I want Fibre Optic. You think they'll throw this in for not much more? thanks
Is the broadband Fibre Optic at this price?
Thanks a lot, I did not know about it.

Still not a good deal, I ditched sky last April after being a loyal customer for 15 years but after their constant price increases I ditched them and haven't looked back, partly because I now use an android tv box, fully legal hardware by the way, it's what you can install on it that goes into a grey area but that don't bother me, after paying sky's over the top prices they can now kiss my ****, I'm still watching all the tv/movies and sports that I want without needing sky.
Got this deal 4 the sports package for 22.75 p/m & was told it would stay at this for the first 12 months & its now gone up to 25 has this happend 2 anyone else?

Actually, I made a choice not to spoon feed you the info, due to your prickly nature which you so clearly demonstrate every time you post. You want to learn how to get it for £22, find out for yourself. We aren't friends.

Well that really told me, like on a site where everyone posts deals for everyone #genius

I suppose we should be grateful for small mercies because your kindergarten response does as good as confirm you acknowledge you was talking out of your Harris but your personal pride can't bring yourself to admit it in an open and honest manner.

There's an interweb of billions impressed by bullpony don't you know, just ask all those Nigerian princes wanting to transfer their huge personal wealth in to random people's current accounts :{

I'm not going to get embroiled in this nonsense but I don't support either of you and not sure what you mean by a Jekyl username as this is my own account. I just want to hear more about this Sky deal (as you'll see from an earlier post) rather than your stupid bickering and accusations.

I am sure you can use Herr Google to find out that Jekyll is slang for snide.

And I hate to break this to you but when you choose to start sticking your oar in from what is clearly not your primary username you have by definition embroiled yourself in to this nonsense.

Oh and hello, my initial post in this thread was explaining how I got the very same Sky package for a ching(that's five of Her Majesty's Pounds Sterling before you start on that too) cheaper than this actual deal ;)

It was that qwerta369 who lowered the tone when he/she tried claiming everyone gets it for that price and then had to even go one better insisting he/she had got it three quid cheaper than that.

Strangely enough he/she has stayed deadly silent ever since I asked for some kind of evidence to back the claim up and then Braveheart began to chip in with his/her Scottish sense of humour finding my London/Essexshire twang a source of amusement.

And everyone lived happily ever after, the end :{

Glad we've cleared it all up now 8)

Minantra your a star, did you get a copy of the chat convo at all ?
sure did, I got sent an email with the transcript of my chat ;-)
As I only competed the order last Friday so far today its not paid out on Quidco, but I was told that would only happen once payment has gone through to CPW. Hope this helps everyone.
I've never had a premium phone before so looking forward to it, however, really wanted the silver but no market around the world is offering the silver version at launch for some reason.

Quality mate, they cant and better not renege on that then :)
why has this expired as the offer is still available?

The £5.05 TopCashback from my phone order is showing as payable now.
CPW are selling the 4G version. Specific model is 5017X, 4G with Android 5.1, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage, 5MP camera. Not sure about the weight, but 125g is what's shown on the Alcatel web site. The 3G version is thicker and may weigh more.

Steer clear of the 3G version as it's much worse.

Edit to add: My phone (4G version) weighs 144g on my scales, including battery and SIM card.

Edited By: Donuts123 on Mar 03, 2016 18:09: Add weight
im interested in this phone

as has been said there are two version a 3g and a 4g

can anyone confirm the CPW one is the 4g version, also what does it weigh, some websites say 146grams (or thereabouts) other say 125g, also what Android version is it again lots of review vary between 4.4. and 5

many thanks

Well I've had time to play with the phone for a bit, and for £15 I'm pretty impressed! It's fast enough to run DraStic (Nintendo DS emulator) at a decent playable speed.

For other retro console emulators though, the display isn't ideal because (according to one emulator I tested) the screen refresh rate is 56.67Hz. It would be better to be 60Hz for smoother gameplay with emulators and video playback.

Another possible downer for gaming use is that, at least according to the spec on Alcatel's web site, the screen only has 2-point touch.

Edited By: Donuts123 on Mar 03, 2016 14:02: Mention 2-point touch
Picked up my order from CPW today. TopCashback tracking at £5.05 so fingers crossed that gets paid.

Exact phone model is 5017X, so 4G with 5MP camera. Haven't had time to actually use it yet.
