Cold - literally... You'llbe freezing!
Weather in the med is certainly a lot warmer than UK at that time of year. Take a hoodie but over past few years I've been in Barcelona in early January theirs certainly been no need for a jacket!
:P

As you know, the weather at that time of the year really is pot luck.
It can be very cold in Spain, althought generally warmer that here in the UK, and it can also be very wet indeed.

Good thinking, I checked vacationstogo.com, cruise is $699, so about £490, doesnt include filghts and the accomodation in Barcelona that comes with this one

There is a problem comparing the headline prices of cruises from US websites and the UK websites.

The UK website includes all the charges (with the exception of the 'discretionary' service charge). The US websites don't include taxes, fees and port expenses (or the 'discretionary' service charge).

The $699 price you saw is for the non-assigned cabin and doesn't come with the free drinks package (i.e it is the £579 cabin).

The assigned cabin that does come with the drinks package and costs $899. However the $899 doesn't include the taxes and fees which are added on right at the end and bump the price up to $1,070.22.

Also, and this is a BIG issue, the drinks package on the UK website is really free (if you pay the extra £100 for the assigned cabin).

However for people booking through the American website they have to pay a "service charge" on the 'free' drinks (you know how the Americans love to tip), and this adds $156.42 onto the cost.

So the $899 is now $1,226.64, about £854 (and that doesn't include flights). So that makes the UK price of £679 with flights very cheap.

That is good for a Xmas date check the usa price with diy flights
Cruise nation flights often don't include bags and transfers.

You are correct that Cruise Nation don't include bags and transfers, but having used them a few times for cruises, for the flight prices I have found what they charge for the flights is pretty much what I would have paid booking directly.

As for bags, you could get away with hand luggage only. This is an NCL cruise, so people dressed smartly will be wearing their least ripped jeans and a T shirt, it isn't Cunard.

Tips are $13.50pppd but can take them off if you don't want to pay, I believe a lot of Brits usually do take them off tbh. :);) :P

I Think its a good deal 5 course dinner a show late night disco and breakfast in the morning, also the cabins are nice and clean, the ship is lovely all the staff are so very friendy and very helpful this is my 4th time on this ship.
Virtual Insanity
It's £59 pp so for £118 you only need - night in Edinburgh, 5 course meal and return petrol.

Return petrol? Do you already have your vehicle in Scotland?
and where does the bus drop you off in Newcastle? Anywhere near the Ferry Terminal...

Was on Oceana last year for 14 night cruise and great ship not too large , nice itinerary as well go for it you can't go wrong at that price.
Just remember on the first morning to queue with the rest of seasoned passages at help desk to fill the forms for to say you dont want to pay the gratuities otherwise they will be billing you. On nearly all cruises except Costa you are not obliged to pay gratuities if you dont want to.

Wonderful ship been on her 3 times and going again in 4 weeks, absolute bargain at this price. Wouldn't think twice if I wasn't already booked.

Link doesn't work. Accessed the cruise through Cruise Nation website, but cruise itinery seems not to include 3 day New York stay.
The 'fight back' in your title... Does that mean you'd need to fight to get back? Would that mean you're cruising for a bruising? :)
I have done it and it was amazing. This price is amazing too. Very tempted.
I've never done it but crossing the Atlantic in January doesn't sound like a relaxing trip - anyone experienced it ?

Tips are mandatory on almost every cruise line! The costof drinks is the same as all the other cruise lines.
Tips are not mandatory on almost every cruise line. They get added on automatically with most cruise lines, but can be removed if you ask at the desk. The only cruise line that make them mandatory is Costa.
Yes, but they nearly all state that the tips are mandatory, infact there is never any mention of being able to remove tips in their booking processes, but I too have requested tips be removed a couple of times and they then adhere to your request.

Cozumel is a dump

Thanks for you in-depth review.
Cozumel is a dump
With things like this, one man's meat is another man's poison. For me, it's poison. I did a similar cruise many years back from Miami around the Caribbean for 5 or 6 days with Carnival cruise lines. Hated virtually every minute of it. Packed in like sardines to start. 2500 passengers and a 1000 crew. Unless you are wealthy the cabin is likely to be smaller than a prison cell.

You cant take booze onboard (except one bottle of wine per person). So captive audience in the bars, so guess what prices are like.... ;-) Also, you are issued with a Ship's 'credit card' to pay for everything, so it's difficult to keep track of spending. I did, and had an erroneous item placed on my bill which was hassle to get removed. If one were cynical, you might say this was deliberate.

Full of very loud American's, entertainment on deck consisted of things like 'Men's hairy chest competition'. Also, drinking age reduced from normal 21 years to 18. So lots of American teenagers on the sauce.

Call me snooty by all means. If you don't mind all that then you will enjoy.

Oh one positive if you like food: You will not go hungry. If I recall correctly, early risers breakfast, main breakfast, mid morning snacks, lunch, tea, dinner and midnight feast.

If you have just booked, you will know how much they charge for luggage. Cruise Nation are notorious for unavoidable extras and routinely charge £75 to £100 per suitcase.
Please let people know the extra costs you've had to pay.
luggage was standard airline prices when we booked and went in summer! there was a £50 booking fee if i recall which still made our deal £650 each for a balcony cabin with cunard 3 nights in Rome and flights v £1300 each direct with Cunard just for the cruise! Have you actually booked with them????? People on our cruise were repeat guests some had paid £299 for Costa deals and didnt expect it to be legit but it was!
I've not booked with them no, but I have made enquiries to cruise nation. For the flights to Barcelona they wanted £75 per suitcase. There were other extras that weren't included (I don't mean drinks packages or gratuities either.)
maybe it varies by package but we paid £649 each 3 nights rome, flights, 7 night cruise queen vic in august. I paid taxi/trains to and from port/airport as and when..
I'm sure that's the case and I'm only going on personal experience in my enquiries.
A trip I almost booked (I booked something different in the end) from Venice with Royal Caribbean next August and came with free flights. Cruise Nation wanted to charge £75 per case, iglu was included. They'd added an extra cost that was free with the cruise companies own offer.
thats naughty if they did. Have never looked iglu..what kind of deal did you get? im looking RC for next summer :)
Yes, I have booked with Iglu. I did find them good and I did manage to haggle the price down a bit. i didnt however book the RC trip as I thought the cabins sounded far to small. But this was the trip that cruise nation quoted £75 per case.
Not sure if Ive chosen wisely with the cruise I did book with Iglu for a family cruise - and it was much more expensive than the RC trip, but we'll see. Ive also booked for a trip direct with Silversea in April. Love their ships.
we would have two cabins so i need a deal lol

We have 2 cabins for the second one. (One balcony.for us and the kids for the inside cabin.) The first trip is without kids. Bliss. :D which is just as well as it's a 6* all inclusive. I couldn't justify the cost, but were making it for a special treat.
Good price for the package. We did the same in May this year and stayed in Mestre which is a 15 minute bus journey from the mainland into Venice itself. Mestre has a lot of good restaurants and bars if you want to eat there in the evening. If you drink more than about five alcoholic drinks on board per day, the inclusive package is worthwhile. Luggage was standard Jet2 rates. Transfers by taxi were very reasonable.
Nice

So, for £13k I can spend the entire year on a cruise, fed and watered??
If so, that's the immigration problem solved. Putting everyone on a boat like this works out cheaper than b&bs and social money!
What immigration problem? The one the Daily Mail made up to keep people like you dumb?
Dumb? In dumb language, for you to understand, times have changed and we ARE on the way out of the EU.

In 15 years we've had a near 9% population increase, with no equivalent rise in housing, health care, policing or schools. To say it will be a landslide vote is the understatement of the century, yet there are people like you with eyes wide shut believing otherwise.

There is an ever increasing amount of bitter, angry and affected young who feel utterly they have no hope of buying a home. Possessing less than their parents. Europe as an entity is now in the end game, the UK leaving is an absolute certainty.

I look forward to responding to any reply from you in about 3 years from now.
Also check if your transfers in Orlando and Barcelona are included. The Norweigan long haul flights do not normally include luggage or food/drinks so you would need to check this also. The drinks package that is included may have limits so only certain beers/wines and cocktails up to say $10 - over this you would have to buy your cocktails and beers/wines not included in the package.
Hidden fees? Not really hidden but there are the gratuities per day, around £8.50pp. When you get to port you might want to go off and do something, book yourself, ship excursions are expensive. Internet is mega expensive, as are supplies of 'stuff' if you run out. There is no laundry on NCL but they do have a mid cruise laundry offer. Alcohol costs a lot if you are not on the package and there are some cover charges to the premier restaurants and dining experiences (but we never paid for food or drink, we took cans of soft drinks on). The casinoncan cost if you get roped in, plus bowling if its on that ship. None of which you have to do, we didn't.

Prob best not to go overboard with the all inclusive drinks before you go ashore in Marseille, Palermo and Genoa!
How come?
rough locals is the implication, I think, need your wits about you...
Indeed. Marseille is full of crime and has one of the highest crime rates in France. Palermo is infamous for bag snatchers on mopeds and Mafia. Genoa just a bit of a rough port town. That said stick to the touristy areas and centres and you will be fine.

With Greece in such turmoil, it may be safer to take a rowing boat out on the Serpentine.
September can be a nice time of the year in London.
It would be a lot cheaper to take a boat out on Finsbury Park Lake or even Greenwich Park Lake ( during school holidays ). The Serpentine costs £29 hour for 2 adults with 2 children.

For a second I thought you were comparing a 1 hour boat hire with a 1 week med cruise including all your meals.............

Oh wait, you did!

Msc cruises do child friendly and children are free up to age 17. Two per cabin!!!!

msc opera last year..the kids have to climb on your beds to get in their bunks..3/4 of the ship were seasick (no stabilising bars apparently) The kids club was fab entertainment hit and miss.....read reviews before you book. It was cheap tho!

Cunard apparently do 4 in a room too ive just noticed on their site.
Does anyone have any experience of actually booking a cruise with CruiseNation?
You can't book online and when you dial 08000736487 you just go on permanent waiting.
I called at 18:10 last night and queued right up until 20:10.
Queued for an hour this morning and got cut off... eventually spoke to a guy who bumped the price up by adding booking fees and luggage supplements....

Did a Caribbean Carnival cruise for Christmas last year and they're fine. Not the best but far from the (Costa) worst. Would go on them again and this is a great price!

Does anyone know about the Princess shore excursions? Is there anyway to get cheaper deals elsewhere? This is our first time going on a cruise ship, after checking we would probably take 3 excursions, 1 Pompeii, 1 Pisa + Florence and 1 Milan. However we do not know what we are going to do at the other ports and we can't take all the excursions because it works out quite expensive. We would be going through these ports:
1. Sicily
2. Salerno
3. Cannes (France)
4. Barcelona

For Barcelona, I suggest taking a cab who will take you around for 2-3 hours for less than 60-70 euros - u just need to haggle a bit.

Sicily i think- u can just walk around.

Great deal, just bought the wife a ticket. Hope they've got an Italian captain...
15% service charge. Drinks package around £20 per person per day and 7 euros (£5.40ish) per day compulsory gratuities(service charge) to add on. Still a fantastic deal and well worth the mony.

Have cruised on Costa Magica and loved it. Loved the entertainment in the dining room during the evening meal! Great fun.

We went after the Costa Concordia and the safety drill was extremely well organised. Definitely something Costa are hot on since the Concordia disaster.

Great find o.p. How did you get the flight from Liverpool?. It just shows Luton.
if they have already had problems, chances are their safety measures will be spot on and they are trying to get the confidence back from the public - good find - enjoy
I did Costa cruise on Concordia month before Concordia sank. Put me off cruises for life.

Terrific deal but bear in mind that even Med weather can be pretty poor in December.

Hot deal!

Where does it state December?

Don't think I've ever seen a Caribbean cruise this cheap before, well not one that includes flights and a stay anyway. Cruise is on the Carnival Valor, which gets a 4 out of 5 rating on Cruise Critic.…

Would be full board, as most cruises are.
Hi what board is this anyone know pls
What's the dates?

Oh yeah, you're right. I actually rang up to check on the deal to see if it was right, or if there were any big add-ons. Lady on the phone told me the Valor, so I guess you'd need to double check that (although it does say Freedom on the link, and that gets decent reviews too). She also told me it was the Dreamliner also.

Forget P&O unless you're over 60, they really are geared up for the older generation.

What a load of rubbish!!!
Quote from P&O website;
Fun for all the family

A Ventura cruise is very family-friendly. In addition to fantastic children’s clubs and a play area for under 2s, Mr. Bump from the Mr. Men Show is also a regular visitor. She even has a 24 hour buffet restaurant so the only routines you need to keep are your own.

Don't read everything literally! We were on Ventura last year (around the Fjords)

Take it from one who has been on P&O Cruise Ships 'for all the family' as well as with Royal Caribbean (on numerous of their fleet) & it's like chalk & cheese!

Loads to do on RC with lovely modern ships, freindly staff, great food / service & lively entertainment with loads to do!

P&O on the other hand is dull & dreary with other notable downsides :

* A poorly set out 'Buffet' restaurant with low quality food (although the main restaurant wasn't too bad) The Pizza & Burger stations were truly awful!
* Different prices for the same Drink in different bars.
* Unfriendly Staff
* Poor range of activities during 'at sea' days

The ONLY bonus P&O have is that you can take booze on-board to drink in your 'stateroom'

You can take wine and champagne on Royal Caribbean.

No lager or spirits though. :(

"Guests are not allowed to bring beer, spirits or non-alcoholic beverages aboard for consumption or any other use. Guests may bring personal wine and champagne onboard only on boarding day, limited to two (2) 750 ml bottles per stateroom. When consumed in any public area, each bottle shall be subject to a corkage fee of USD 25.00. Additional bottles of wine beyond two (2) bottles that are brought aboard or any alcoholic beverages purchased in ports-of-call or from onboard shops will be stored by the ship and delivered to your stateroom on the last day of the sailing. Alcoholic beverages seized on embarkation day will not be returned.

Security may inspect containers (water bottles, soft drinks bottles, mouthwash, luggage etc.) and will dispose of containers holding alcohol."
R C Website

It's been like that for a year or more now. Shame I don't drink wine or champagne though.

Even though they say you can't take water or juice on board they don't enforce it. I took a few cans and half a dozen bottles of water on our last cruise. Plenty of others do likewise.

Filled my water bottles with vodka!

How did you manage the change of flight? Couldn't see the option!

Speak to them. The website is really just an advertising page to collect details, for them to get back to you. Found them to be really helpful.

What the website doesn't mention is that there is a charge of £34 per person for hold luggage, a £19 per person booking fee, and the price doesn't include transfers (likely to be £25 each way for the Venice 17 night option), so about an extra £80 per person on top of the headline price. There was a choice of 4* hotels in Venice for that part of the trip as well.

Still a damn good deal.

I booked the 17 night offer which includes 14 nights on the ship! Bargain at £699!!! Oh and from my local airport Birmingham!

we've booked 7N cruise from Miami to Bahamas for much less, flights to Miami on offer at Vigin now, better itinery also
Its a repositioning cruise of the ship for the winter, you can decide to stay longer in Miami at additional cost. I have been on this ship and its more about the "Full board" for 14 days bit be warned the drinks are not cheap (In US Dollars plus tax)
Some people just prefer to stay on the cruise ship and stuff their faces, hog the sun beds and do naff all. We've come across those people many times on cruises... This is perfect for them! I do love NCL though, been on a couple if their ships and no complaints to be had with either
i don't understand this at all. it sails for 12 days to miami & u spend a couple of days there? what do you actually get to see?
Check out 1800flyeurope and BT-store.com for 1 way flights back.

Miami 13Oct £287

Also check ncl.com for cruise only. FROM £320

that's £160pp to cover the flight to Copenhagen and 2 night hotel in Miami

It might be possible to get this cheaper.

For those with avios and can fly from London NCL spirit 12 med is going cheap Venice to BCN but needs 2 nights in BCN for the cheap avios flight back.

Looks like it's gone up from £249 when it originally appeared on Travelzoo this morning. Still, not a bad price. Not a bad price at all!

The £309 price was for an outside cabin though - this could explain the difference.
splender
A great opportunity for schools to open franchises on cruise ships? If you can have boat people , why not for boat teachers, boat pupils, boat canteen ladies. Any takers?

Hilarious.

I went on the Costa Luminosa in Nov 12 around western Med. absolutely fantastic! Bought the drinks package before we left off the Internet and spent 5 days sipping cocktails!! Met some great people and really enjoyed it. As its quiet, you will probably get a free upgrade to a balcony so don't bother spending extra on one! Most the passengers are Itallian though so be prepared for the Itallian night in the restaurant! Enjoy!!
Wife booked it for my 50th in January... Big thanks to the OP...
Norvirus should be at its peak in Jan, could make for an interesting cruise :D

I presume so, cruises normally do. Tipping will be extra I suspect. Wish it was from Liverpool or Manchester.
Yes..tipping is compulsory..around 7 euros per adult and 3.50 for teenagers...no escape from this...!! But they do not charge children below 11.

Never been on a cruise, but just curious: are the above tips per day/ per dinner/ per holiday??
Also: how is the tipping compulsory? I thought it was optional and to reward good service?
tps are per night..so 7 nights=49euros per adult, teenagaer= 24
On costa it is compulsory, but on other cruise lines, it is optional. I was very impressed with the steward who provided excellent service-could not help giving him a Tip at the end of the cruise. He worked real hard...!
I've never cruised with Costa but on Princess and Cruise Maritime you just asked at the desk and they removed them then, or with CM had to leave it til the final day to get the removed. We could then tip who we wanted specifically which is how I prefer to do it rather than it be automatically taken. Never heard of it being compulsary where you cannot opt out.
