3quid for a figure of eight lead even if it does fold away seems a bit much.
every currys and pc world has sold out near me ;-( looks good and what i was looking for :-(
lol, it only has 1 connector which is power. universal fail ;)
I've got half a dozen laptop chargers, only one uses a figure of 8, to make it better than this, cut a spare (I have 10s spare from boom boxes / cassette players from the 80/90s) figure of 8 cable to a couple of inches and re-attach/fit a new plug. Problem solved and you're recycling an old and potentially redundant cable.

mike
seems to be a UK-only plug as well :(

Bought one of these today from the CEX I work at, great bit of kit, using it right now, traded the Lenovo Thinkpad I got from one of the deals on here towards it, really nice piece of kit

Shame it hasn't got the full SSD, but they're pretty easy to upgrade I hear

Keen spec for the price, although the lack of 1080p display is a slight letdown. Acer are notorious for loading their machines with crapware, so a cleanup would be in order
but surely you wont notice a 1080 in such a small screen?!
You would - you can see the screen res difference in smaller screens, like the iPad or Nexus 7
Yet another Currys deal where no one appears to have stock.
Does anyone know if this comes with a USB-to-Ethernet adapter?
robo989
It's pretty darn good price for something of only 1.36kg

...Trouble is the battery,

Can anyone advise on a similar weight/spec ultrabook for similar (maybe a bit more) price but with a battery that's going to last as long as an ultrabook should.

thanks.

My one easily lasts 7 hours, battery hasn't been an issue at all. It is the ssd only version though.

The SSD only version was cheaper than this around the windows 8 launch. But it lacks the 2nd connector that this hybrid version has. ( hdd and ssd)

No stores in south manchester have any, the closest is bolton.
I reserved one of these online, rang in the morning to check it was actually in stock and when i got there I was told that surprise surprise, no stock. I would suggest that anyone interested in this pay a bit more elsewhere and avoid a wild goose chase unless your pcworld/currys is really close.

The game is extremely good fun though and a great change from the standard mmo formula.
Good price, I've been playing since beta, few kinks but its going to be a great game this time next year.

not that much cheaper considering you got to wait for delivery and some people still prefer old fashioned shops

If you check the link I posted, the extra few £s can go towards a case, memory card or whatever really.

Agreed there are those who would prefer to shop on the high street, but there are others who prefer to save as much as possible.

Either way, I agree with you that it is more bang for your buck than the SX220 HS :)

Quidco says the 5% is only on cookers, other sales is only 1.5% which, I think is the same as TCB???
It's cheap for a DSLR but only 12.2 MP means it is at the lower end of image quality. You can get much better image quality for just £50 extra by going for mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras like the Sony NEX 5N which is much better than this. The Sony is also more compact and lighter.

I think DSLR cameras are on the way out to be replaced by these mirrorless cameras which offer equal or better image quality than a DSLR of the same price.
I'd say go to the shop and get it as if you expect any deliveries from any company whilst its snowing just forget it. So forget your quidco and brave the dusting of snow!
I've just changed from a 1000d to a 600d. This has the flip out screen and does hd videos, though I don't think it tracks the subject in videos mode. 600d is part of the Canon cashback offer.

I actually purchased this camera and I thought the battery was faulty so returned it for a replacement. Again the same thing started happening. The battery started to give completely false readings about how long the usage time was. In the end I ended up returning the camera for a Canon. Had no problems with that and the low light condition results look a lot better than the Panasonic.

Bought it for £239 just after Christmas, but got £50 cash back from Panasonic. Not used it much, but seems pretty decent

@brookheather - interesting study. But anyone with any knowledge of methodology and statistics will realise that the sample used is not only small but is also very specific. The cables they used were from major names and therefore it's hardly surprising that they were over-engineered. Dynamode may be an equally reputable make (I certainly hope so, having ordered some!) but I stick by my original assertion - these are only certiffed as SATA II and anyone using them for SATA III should be aware that they _may_ only carry data at 3 GB/s. If they're faster then it's a bonus!
Machar
@brookheather - to us laymen it may seem that there's no difference between cables but there's a reason why some are labelled as specifically suitable for SATA III. To quote serialata.org (http://www.serialata.org/documents/SATA-6-Gbs-The-Path-from-3gbs-to-6gbs.pdf) "In the transition to SATA 6Gb/s, it will be important to use high-quality cabling. Problems may be related to the use of cables made from marginal materials that perform at the edges of SATA 3Gb/s tolerances, which could become a failure point at the faster 6Gb/s signal rates. SATA-IO therefore recommends that only high quality cables and connectors be utilized for SATA 6Gb/s." So you _can_ use SATA II cables for 6GB/s devices and hope for the best, but I prefer to highlight the difference.
There is no problem using SATA2 cables for SATA3 devices - see here:

SATA cables: Is there a difference?
Out of stock
anyone recommend a sata power cable ?
brookheather
There is no difference between SATA2 and 3 cables.

Exactly this.

sx50 was £277.90 at Christmas in the Amazon sale.

Just had a quick look - http://www.procamerashop.co.uk
Are doing the sx50 for £287.99

Apart from grey imports and the Amazon sale (you needed to be quick and lucky to get that!) the best the HX50 has been is £356.

£185.91 for an HX40 is a good price.

Great price, nearly bought this camera last year, but went for the Sony HX200 instead... it was a close-run thing though.

I see that Canon released the SX50 just a few months afterwards, and addressed nearly every major criticism of the reviewers who looked at the SX40.

BTW: It was never £449 to start with, more like £329-349
