Sales of Goods Act embodies the legal responsibilities which a commerical company cannot override. Like any English contract law the statue of limitation is 6 years therefore one has a possible claim up to 6 years. A commercial company can offer extra responsibilities in the form of guaranties or warranties BUT none of which can override the legal responsibility. For example, a company may offer a 40" TV for £1000 with one year warranty. However if it broke down after 2 years with expected daily use then one would have a strong case for non merchantable quality under the SOGA even when one can no longer claim under the one year warranty. £1000 is a relatively premium price and merchantable quality does not mean it is expected to last one year but more like at least 5 years. On the other hand if the 40" TV was priced at £200 then a supplier could argue that a reasonable expected life was less than one year as he could say a £1000 TV was expected to last 5 years so the expected life was about £200 per year, then he may not be liable under the SOGA since it is expected that there is a huge difference between £1000 and £200 in terms of quality. But since he has offered one year warranty then he is liable for faults. So this example illustrates that a company can offer better terms than what the law provides and no less. When a supplier commits to more than one year warranty then the price is factored up based on the actual rate of return of manufacturing faults of similar earlier models. Economically it is always not sound to take out extra warranty or guarantee unless the goods are vitally important and had to be replaced or repaired urgently. Tactically for goods which you know to be very reliable and a judge would know it should be reliable, like an Apple or Samsung, for example, it is better to buy the same cheaper and just take the risk on the 1 year warranty only (not 2 or 3 years) as you can always claim under the SOGA after one year. This principle is certainly true for a lot of white goods and computers where the manufacturer offers budget, mid price and premium quality at different prices. One would expect the premium quality means a lifespan of at least twice compared with a budget priced line. Then if you bought a premium washing machine that is expected to last at least 7 years, compared to a budget one that is 3 to 4 years. Then it is money down the drain to pay extra money for extended warranty or for insurance of say 2, 3, 5 years when the SOGA already provides you with statutory obligation from the seller.

I thought the law had now changed and ALL electrical items now come with a 2 year warranty no matter where you buy them from, only trouble is not all retailers will inform you of this i'm sure.
you thought wrong - true for the rest of the EU. Labour opted out of this regulation.

Actually you are wrong :) sales of goods say up to 6 years but after a period of time you have to prove the issue many retailers won't entertain this and most staff don't "know" it exists so try and fob you off but keep pushing and they will follow the law eventually. Apple in the other hand won't ever budge.

Freezing deal as the site is hot deals not ipad stock checker :)
i know about soga but was replying about the new eu 2 year rule obviously

so you are both wrong ;)

No, you are wrong. There is no EU 2 year warranty and never was. There was an EU directive on a minimum 2 year guarantee, but since the SOGA has already provided for 6 years in England and Wales (5 in Scotland) since 1979, there was nothing for the UK to adopt. Guarantees are not the same as warranties and the EU directive set out pretty much the same conditions as the SOGA but for a shorter period of cover.

So does ANY normal A to A for 99p, I'm asking why you need a full size retractable cable for components that never move around the house.

it also says this "The ReTrak EUCABLEHDAA Retractable HDMI A to A Cable is the ideal high quality space saving device"

But with a central cable real it actually takes up more space than a standard cable.

I prefer the old one looking at the two!

New one's a much better layout and not as chunky. They've finally released it in the UK as well so you don't need to import it anymore.

so where to buy it?

P[/quote]
Amazon UK had it the last time it was posted on here.

To answer the other guys question, it does still wake the ps3 by any button, however if you toggle tv or amp mode at the top, it won't do until you out it back onto ps3 next time
TimmyD
May seem like a stupid question>? but why do you need a remote? doesnt your PS3 controller do the same job?

How does the controller do 50+ different actions instantly ? with controller you have to do alot of it by on screen stuff, takes way to long, oh and its great with playtv.

Think of it this way since this remote control does the same job as a PS3 controller why not buy these instead of a PS3 controller given its way cheaper.

This is the cheapest external HDD I can find at the moment so thanks,
I know that for just a little more buck I could get a lot more capacity but I really only need 150GB+ as it is to run my wii off and I wont need *that* many games on it!
I am short on money so this will do the job unless anyone can point me to anything cheaper?
Im cancelling my order as I have realised I need a bigger drive in order for me to backup my photos and home videos (currently at 400gb), so have ordered the big brother (1TB) from Amazon for £60 instead:

"Fridge freezers are not designed to be used in a garage or outhouse therefore we recommend that you don't use them in any unheated area. Should you wish to store your fridge freezer in such an area it is recommended that you buy a model with twin thermostats as this will help to reduce the risk of food being spoiled. The Hotpoint NRFAA50P Fridge Freezer comes equipped with a single thermostat."

If you are after a freezer or fridge/freezer for a garage or outhouse, it is worth knowing that all BEKO Frost Free freezers or fridge freezers work down to an operating temperature of -15 - so should be OK for most of us....!
