Even better than that. Wired, a tech magazine has the gall to complaint a reader posted the offer online. WTF. This is there target audience, what did they think was going to happen
  2. Pandarino's avatar
They want subscribers and then complain when they get too many?

I'll start by saying I ordered two of these and am still waiting for the Misfit.

That said, this thread is embarrassing, the offer was always advertised in clear black & white text that the GIFT was subject to availability, it was not guaranteed.

You have 6 months of IMO a decent read for £9 and another GIFT of any additional 6 months for free.

Perhaps I'm too laid back but nobody has anything to complain about.

I won one of these watches in a competition recently and I have to say they're nowhere near worth £50! Bit of plastic with flashing lights. Nothing technical. Probably worth the £9, but not much more in my opinion

I am sure someone was monitoring how many subscriptions were coming in as a result of the (seemingly unwanted) extra exposure from this site and also had an idea of the amount of Misfit dongles that they had.

In my opinion any company worth their salt would have removed the link page to order as soon as the numbers had dwindled.

I spoke with a rep from the company about 11 days ago and they informed me that they still had stock and not to worry.

From what I can see this has been a shambles and resulted in a lot of negative publicity for them when it should have been an excellent bit of exposure.

    Shambolic!

    From the BBC page

"We have been working hard to find an alternative, and are pleased to offer a six-month extension to the subscription.

"Letters have been sent to those affected, which they will receive this week. For anyone not satisfied with this, a refund will be available."

I don't want 6 months extra of the mag, I was actually quite disappointed with it, I thought it would be good, maybe the next issue will be better.

I accept it is subject to availability, but there's a couple of key things:

    a) The offer was still listed at the time I ordered - i.e. *after* some people received theirs - if the number of orders was a problem, it should have been taken down much earlier.
    b) No communication. Yes, people who have chased it recently have been told, but we should not be expected to do this.

All in all, this thread is pretty tame for HUKD.

Same here! I'm inclined to file for the indemnity claim then cash the cheque afterwards. When Conde Nast come after me for a refund i'll take 3 months to reply... then send them a cheque for 80% of the value a month later. And I might just forget to sign it, just to make my point.

more to the point why did they not think to notify people before taking the money that they had run out,the Customer Service leaves a lot to be desired

    got the same email

"Thank you for taking the time to contact us. I am sorry to report that we have run out of the gift.

Even though our offers are always subject to availability, we were supplied with a generous number of items to make sure WIRED readers would not miss out. While this promotion was only published in the printed copy of WIRED, one individual took the initiative to leak the offer on hotukdeals.co.uk.

As a result we received a large number of orders online after the offer was made public. We are looking into a solution and will be contacting as soon as possible.

Please accept my apologies for the inconvenience

Please do not hesitate to contact me for any further assistance.

    Kind Regards"

they've had over a month to notify people but chose not to,that's unforgivable to me and really bad CS,i wait to see what they come up with and if im not satisfied i am not staying subscribed,i actually enjoyed reading the magazine(usually read it in the dentist waiting room)but the free gift and decent price was the added impetus to subscribe

I'm not in the business of defending good/bad business practice or ethics. The simple fact is, you accepted their offer to purchase based on the T&C that were there in front of you.

Of course, in an ideal world stock issues would be flagged up accordingly and offers changed immediately, but that's why Amazon is class leading, those systems are multi-million pounds. Here we're talking about a magazine publisher supplying a product via another business (direct from manufacturer probably) based on excel sheets and rough figures.

Either way it's an undeniably a good deal and their gesture should be praised, they didn't have to offer yo anything, not even a refund.

Sorry, but that's nonsense. There's a difference between expecting an … Sorry, but that's nonsense. There's a difference between expecting an offer to be changed "immediately" as you put it, and being changed over a month after it was listed on here. You speak of 'rough figures' as if a company shouldn't reasonably know how many of these items they had a deal in place to be supplied.Their gesture is one that I'm not going to praise because it appears designed to get people to request refunds, rather than any effort to offer a viable substitute. You speak of the T&Cs - we can't actually check these now - although offers like these typically speak of a substitute gift when stocks run out.Having said all that, I'm not all that bothered about it. But what I don't want is to have to spend time contacting them to get a refund.

Perhaps the issue is you appear to have ordered this for the gift alone and have no interest in the publication, an unfortunate turn of events for you.

Me? Well, i like the magazine anyway and will gladly accept 6 months free. 1 year of magazines for £9 is a deal, their gesture is certainly appreciated by me.

As for you not understanding my previous post, apologies. HUKD posts really do get wound into a frenzy of melodrama.

It is excellent. I may swallow the error for 6 months. You will probably save 100 quid by being very informed. For 'wired world' , leading tech/internet/computers...it's the absolute nuts. Luxury finish, great editorial, glossy, nice pics, fairly meaty. I've always loved Wired.
