Hi guys.

So you've got your shiny new 3G Vita, and you want the cheapest possible way to connect to the tinterwebs right ?

Ok, follow me.

First of all, you need access to an iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S - and a Micro Sim adapter. You don' need to own an iPhone 4, you just need access to one for a short while - so a friend or family member's iPhone4/S will suffice. This is because T-Mobile will need a IMEI number from an iPhone 4.

Then either visit a T-Mobile store and purchase a free iPhone 4/S Micro sim with £10 topup (mandatory) or order online from here .

Then, insert the micro sim in to an iPhone 4/S and ring this free landline number :

0808 1219999

You will be asked to enter the mobile phone number you are calling about, so enter the number of your new iPhone 4 Micro Sim.

You then need to be able to speak to a customer support member personally - this normally involves pressing the button that corresponds to 'wanting to leave T-Mobile/Asking for a PUK code'.

Once through to a member of the team, ask them to activate your 12 months FREE Internet access for your iPhone 4 Micro Sim. They will see that your sim is indeed inserted in to an iPhone 4/S so that they can get the IMEI number.

The team member should then sort it their end, and they should announce to you that you will shortly be receiving a text from them confirming that your 12 months Free internet has been activated.

Leave the sim in the phone until the text has been received (shouldn't be too long), then you're good to go.

Simply insert the Micro Sim into the Adapter (one should be supplied with the T-Mobile Micro Sim - if not they are cheap enough to order online from Amazon), then insert in to the PS Vita.

Et Voila . Free Internet for 12 months. (albeit £10 top up fee but hey ?)

Enjoy !

I don't get why are T-Mobile only officially offering this for iPhone 4, … I don't get why are T-Mobile only officially offering this for iPhone 4, and not smart phones in general, seems odd. Also, is their payg data speed capped at all?

Because iPhone users are more important than everybody else.

You leave the wifi off overnight? Why? To stop hackers? To save that 10p of electricity?

    fail.

500MB per month won't go far.

As with most phones, it's going to depend on how much you are going to be using the 3G. With wi-fi spots everywhere these days, and people most likely playing their Vita at home, 500mb is actually quite a lot. I have 750mb on my phone, and i'll be lucky if i even get to 100mb in a month.

Although, saying that, i don't know how data thirsty the Vita actually is, but my logic of using wi-fi still stands :P

Not a marketing post at all. It is widely known that the Vodafone is only the official 3G carrier however it will work with any sim card. The PS Vita is completely region free and unlocked.

The only downside (for me) is that it is T-Mobile & from my experience with the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, the reception is unstable & regularly reverts to 2G T-Mobile, then 2G Orange, then no carrier signal at all.

After my contract expires with T-Mobile I will not be using them again.

PS. Don't forget to "top up" the Vodafone (3G) SIM provided with the PlayStation Vita 3G model by £5 (at least once) to receive a text message with a redeemable voucher code to download "WipEout 2048".

    BFN,

I'm not overly informed on the topic, but surely using the Vita is gonna use much more bandwidth than a phone hence incurring additional charges? If not at least they could see how much you're using & that it's not in conjuction with the IMEI you used initially? And does the Vita hold a distinct IMEI number that'd differentiate from a phone?

Or, is it truly unlimited internet access?
  12. shez786's avatar

You cannot do downloads of over 20mb on 3G only Wi-Fi and it's typically used for the web browsing and social networking apps. You cannot not use the 3G for online gaming apart from a few turn based games. Once the card is registered you will be able to check your usage online. You get 500mb a month which is twice Vodafone are officially providing for £5 a month. This has been confirmed as working. I should be getting my Vita in the next hour and will be topping up via Vodafone for the Wipeout for £5 deal and then swapping over to this deal asap.

T Mobile will not charge if you go over your 500mb, you will recieve a few texts saying your getting close to you limit, after you recieve the text saying you have reached your limit you will not be able to download or use high bandwidth between 4pm-midnight (youtube still works) for the remainder of billing month but browsing will be unlimited regardless.

Its a very good deal considering the cost.

Tmobile is unlimited, its 500mb only for downloads and video streams. I always get messages that I have gone over my allowances but they never cap you. This is why Tmobile are brilliant, got one of these sims on my iPad.

The 500mb is the fair usage policy. You can go over it however your speed will be capped. I have been on T-Mobile for about 9 months now and I'm a heavy data user and never been charged anything extra for data.

Good deal until Vodafone start offering subsidised contracts (i'd hope in the next 3 months based off the awful vita sales in Japan).

Shame the up front cost is still so much - but if you are going to get one anyway then this looks to be a really good deal.

You are all absolutely moronic..you can't even play games on Vita online with 3G, only async games and leaderboards..up your phone plan and use internet tethering and the Vita believes its on Wifi - then you can play everything online.

    -EDIT-

If you don't already have a data allowance/tethering it will probably be cheaper to do this, but use it in your phone with internet sharing still (you can do this with WP7, android and iOS) and then you can play everything online.

I posted it as that is an old post and this is a great deal for those who like myself have the PS Vita 3G and is the best deal and fully explains how to take advantage of it. The original post was for those who was going to use the deal as intended by T-Mobile.

It's a PAYG tariff, so not worth worrying about really. If you run over and they charge you, there's only the £10 initial credit on there. If they decide that they don't like you using the SIM in a non-iPhone device and cancel the line then again, you're only £10 out of pocket (after however many months it takes them to crack down on this).

And yet some people would prefer not to be wasting there mobile battery connecting through tethering and have want the easiness of just going and browsing and using the social network apps without this hassle. Maybe I want to have the extra features of been having GPS built in unlike the Wi-Fi only mode and use apps that take advantage of the 3G. Not everyone is getting the 3G model because the think they play games online.

They do now because of people doing things like this! They are wise to it so now you have to call from a valid device to enable it. No idea if they are able to check after that to confirm its still being used in a valid device.. I would suspect they can but are not doing so..... yet.
