Arriving slightly late to the party, the Hannspad SN10T1 is tablet computer running the Android operating system.
Unfortunately it uses a version of Android (2.2) that is already out of date and designed for phones, not tablets. The company has applied a special ‘skin' on top of the operating system to make it more suitable for the tablet form but, while it looked good, the skin served only to block access to features.
The fundamental point of tablet computers is the touch-sensitive screen, but the Hannspad's touchscreen was very poor. In fact, it was one of the worst we've seen and, at times, was totally unresponsive. Even when it worked it required several taps before it was able to register what we'd pressed. The poor touchscreen here is akin to a laptop with a broken keyboard.
Even when the touchscreen did work, it didn't look very good, which is a surprise given that Hannspree is known as a monitor manufacturer. It's a widescreen display but quality was poor and the viewing angle very limited. Like a lot of cheap tablets we've looked at, the computer's screen reflected everything around it, which made it hard to use in well-lit rooms or sunshine.
The customised version of Android that's been put on the Hannspad limits its functionality dramatically. As well as being a bit slow, it doesn't include access to the Android Market for downloading apps, as it doesn't meet the market's hardware requirements.
Instead, there is a rather sparsely populated App Centre. The apps that came pre-installed on the tablet were decent enough, covering all the usual areas: weather, clock, internet, email, calendar, music, photos and video. While they've been customised for use on a tablet, we didn't think they were as good as the standard Android apps available on other models.
The lack of a camera is also a strange oversight, although it does have an HDMI socket for displaying video on a flat-panel TV.
The Hannspree Hannspad SN10T1 is very cheap compared with other models, but you get what you pay for and this model fails to get the basics right. With the poor screen, lack of apps and out-of-date operating system, it's hard to recommend.

I've HAD an IPAD an IPOD and an IPHONE4 , voted HOT because it isnt one, get a grip and some intelligence.
i have... and its obscenely overpriced locked down kiddy computer that will start falling apart within a few months, like all apple products.
and before you pull that silly argument again, i own several apple products so i talk from experience.
hot from me
Thanks for that, genius

You've never posted any kind of deal. Ever!. Jog on.
Someone posts a poor quality tablet
A handful of people say it's not an iPad
Everyone else slates the iPad
The product gets hot for not being an iPad
Virtually nobody buys the product
Those who do buy the product regret it
If you haven't got the IQ required to use Android devices, that's your problem.
Stick to your child friendly devices, and we'll stick to our more useful ones.
This is Hot UK Deals its about bargains and if this is the lowest price available then it's a hot deal regardless of what the product is.
Go play with the kids on Engadget and Digg if you want to be fan boys, it's getting dull on every tablet deal now.
Stop being an iBore.
So do I - I've got a bag of them in the fridge!
A REFURB!!! so Ipads do go wrong then?

You beat me to it. No pun intended either.
not really a fair stab when the very first comment is pro-apple. you expect people to sit back and not react to that?
i personally think tablets are the most ridiculous technological fad to ever exist. I wouldn't buy a windows7, android or ios device even if they were all <£100. ergonomically nothing will ever beat the speed and efficiency of a laptop keyboard, and i won't ever be held back by the restraints of a tablet device and yes, there are many.

You say custom ROM, I say jailbreak - it's the same thing.
I'd love an Android tablet if I could find one suitable.
Amazing things that really took me by surprise with this device :-
1) Flash!!! it runs at full speed within the web browser for anything I can think up... Youtube, BBC Iplayer (in HD too!), generic flash games etc...
2) Native connectivity to my NAS (Network hard drive for those who dont know) which means I can without having a single pc on in the house stream films, music, word docs, excel docs, pdfs and all my photo album directly to my tablet. And where my PS3 will do this it is actually responsive unlike the PS3 with god knows how much more processing power!
3) Streaming music clients! (Spotify like) There are loads of these and they are full of brilliant music you can just stream to the device completely free!
4) Angry birds shipped out the box! Cause everyone needs this on their tablet :-).
5) Basic but functional office package out of the box! Dont need to pay extra for this!
6) HDMI! I thought why would I need HDMI its a mobile device! But when you realise you can play HD films directly off your NAS and in full 1080p to your Full HD TV with no slow down or jerkyness it becomes a whole different device!
Im sure this list will go on as I get used to the device and with the ability to potentially upgrade to Honeycomb in the near future (Bottle of smoke Mod).
As you can see for £150 even £200 this device IS WORTH IT!!!
Yes its not an IPAD but if you think of it not as an "IPAD copy" and more of a much more flexible device its fantastic!!
There's a userbase of about 3 working on getting Viewpad G Tablet roms working on the Hannspree at SlateDroid. It's looking unlikely there will be rom development for this specific device, but there might be support for installing a Viewpad G rom over to the Hannspree
Like what for example?
What audio apps btw? I can't imagine doing any real audio/video work with an 800mhz processor
Like the Xoom WIFI 32GB which at £479 is the same price as an iPad 2 WIFI 32GB. Or a Touchpad 32GB WIFI which is £479. I know it's not out yet but I will have a bet that the Galaxy 10.1 32GB WIFI will be... £479!!!
Tablet costs the same price as the ipad because the ipad came out first and sold at that price. No company will go higher or much lower so they all bob along at pretty much the same price.
If the ipad had been £299 when it came out then they would all be £299.
Also they cost the same to make. This makes interesting reading
engadget.com/201…ip/
So they are the same inside, cost the same to make and they sell for the same price but the ipad is overpriced? If anything the Apple is may be underpriced as Apple make money from apps sold whereas Android manufacturers don't unless they have their own store so Apple can subsidise the price. Probably why Android tablets don't ship with Market Place. They want you to use their store not the Google one.
When the ipad came out there was no similar product to compare prices against. Nearest were Windows tablets that were over £1000. Nobody knew how much the ipad would cost. Apple dictated what all tablets cost when they set the price of the ipad. Nobody would want the ipad to cost more than it currently does than it's competition. A £499 16GB WIFI ipad would be a dream for the others because they could charge £449 for their 16GB WIFI models. Higher profits but cheaper than the market leader.
The only way to get cheaper tablets is for Apple to reduce the price of the ipad. Unfortunately the others would have to reduce by the same negating the impact of the reduction as sales would stay proportionate. Thing is with the apps, Apple could absorb the reduction better than the competition.
In my opinion the only tablet that will compete against the ipad is the rumoured Amazon Kindle Tab. As they have an app store, book sales etc they can sell a cheap tablet and make the money back on content sales.
Compared to this Hanspree or the Vega all branded tablets are overpriced.

I have one. It's going back, I don't think its worth £135.
In portrait mode (which you will most likely want for A4 or other text book formats) the screen viewing angles are dodgy. It shimmers and colour shifts massively just a few degrees off of centre, especially noticeable in colour like magazines and comics - black and white text is fine though.
Functional, but the screen is the cheapest part of the Vega. If you are going to do a fair bit of reading opt for one of the more premium tablets which have far better viewing angles.
My wife has never complained about the viewing angles on her Vega, and she is regularly using it in portrait mode. Perhaps it is because she looks at it directly, instead of from an angle...
I've used it too, and have to say I have no problems with the quality of the screen. It is not as good as my own tablet, but more than useable.
Elkay.
The biggest problem I have with the iPad is the number of people telling me what I need for on the go - I particularly get irritated by those that suggest I shouldn't need the features Steve J has decided I shouldn't, frankly I need flash and an memory slot, that's my minimum requirement, sadly I see too many of the Androids doing away with this as well as Apple. I personally don't want 3G - I'll tether my phone for that and stick to one data contract. I'd quite like a removable battery, so I can carry the spare, but the add on keyboard combo would do at a push.
I also, don't expect to pay a large premium for a larger memory, I for one wouldn't be surprised to see the profit margin on 64GB iPads considerably higher than the 32GB, but this isn't Apple on their own, all the manufacturers seem at it, can't wait to see the Archos, this could be the chink in the armour that forces all the others to drop their prices.

Thats true, we are talking along the same lines then as I agree its stupid to say the iPad's overpriced and tablets like the Xoom isnt as they are both overpriced.
As you say the profit margins are rediculious but since the iPad is doing so well the other manufacturers want a piece and think the same price is sustainable, which it isnt really when part of the reason people are willing to buy the iPad for that price is the Apple factor, similar to the Macbook range having such a price premium over a standard Laptop. I really hope that the Android (and other OS tablets like the playbook and WebOS) realise that the only way they can compete and overthrow the strangehold Apple has is to hugely undercut Apple
One other tablet I didnt mention its worth waiting for is the Amazon Tablet. reportably due before the end of the year (possibly Autumn) chances are it will have close ties to amazons online services and will probably have the price subsadised (like the kindle) as Amazon would look to make the money back from content sales, so would be well priced
Apple control the app market on iPads 100% so they have it sewn up. Android once again suffers from fragmentation with everybody working against each other to try and get the same slice of pie. If they banded together an all took a smaller share of all Android app sales they would do better.
At the moment Apple have about 85% of the market and the competiton have a me too attitude to pricing effectively copying Apple. The only reason 32gb Android pads cost £479 is because Apple reduced the price of the 32gb iPad 2 from £499. If it had stayed at £499 then the Android ones would be £499. At the moment Apple dictate the market and pricing for 10" tablets and as they sell 100% of the apps on 85% of the tablets thats a lot of App sales to one company.
If Amazon or A.N. Other come in at £250 for a quality tablet then I think it would create a whole new type of tablet market in addtion to the £479 price point tablets. £250 may become the standard pricing for a 7" pad. It should be that price at the moment but the Playbook, Flyer, Streak, Galaxy etc are priced far too high relative to a 10" tablet which they see as their direct competition.
Now the Galaxy is available at a sensible price it's selling really well but Samsung are probably making very little at that price compared to a 10" as the only thing to reduce the price significantly is the screen. Other than that the internals will be and cost the same as a 10" version.
Whoever does a quality 7" tablet for £250 will own and dictate that market. I don't think Apple will get involved and so whoever gets in there first will have a similar headstart to what Apple had with the original iPad.
I personally think it will be Amazon as they have the infrastructure to support and subsidise the cost.
You are right. Interesting times ahead.
