Seems like the best price at the moment with the temp slowly rising.

Lots of these Homcom ac units have been posted before on hukd, mostly good reviews from people but would be interested in anyone who’s had this version and if it’s worth the price.

You can get an extra £10 off if you have a blue light card as well.

Product Information
  • 4 in 1 design
  • Auto cut-off
  • Easy control

The summer heat can be unpredictable, which is why you need a multi-functional air conditioner unit to match. This HOMCOM 9000 BTU Mobile Air Conditioner featuring a 4 in 1 design does four jobs - cools, ventilates, dehumidifies and has a sleep mode. It switches between keeping the area at a specific temperature, blowing the fan around, drying the moisture out of the air, and gently increasing the temperature every hour. The sleep function gradually increases the temperature by 1°C every hour. The portable aircon unit is suitable for use all day long and in different climates. It automatically stops when the tank is full, safely preventing it from overfilling and causing damage. A 24-hour timer allows you to set a specific running time, especially when sleeping. EER A grade is perfect for saving electricity. This mobile air conditioner features an on-unit LED screen and comes with a remote. The sleep mode can only be set up with the remote. Control requires 2 x AAA batteries (not included). The removable air filter keeps the air hygienically clean.

    9000 BTU seems low, no?
    Lee5010's avatar
My 9000 BTU cools a decent sized living room with TV and PC on etc.

Can’t see any mention of a window kit. Does anyone know if it comes with one?
    Gavin77345's avatar
I’ve got two air con units like this (different brands) I used a fabric Velcro kit from amazon which sort of worked ok, I then bought a bit of Perspex and cut it to the same size as the window, used Velcro to fix it with a hole cut in the middle for the exhaust tube. Works a treat

I’ve got the LUKO 9k, LUKO 16k and the Homcom 8k and the Homcom is by far the best for the bedroom. It’s the quietest of the lot that I own, it’s also on par with the LUKO 9k so I’d say that this one will be plenty good enough for most people looking for something in the bedroom or office(y)
    Nutellaspread's avatar
How have you found the LUKO 16K?

I have had mine 2 years. I paid £250 from Robert Dyas! Very pleased with the unit as an older woman who runs hot... The dehumidifier mode is useless and requires a bucket and tube and barely works.. I use mine as an aircon unit out the window or a fan, for that its perfect. I can sleep with it on but it is noisy. You can buy a more flexible tube from Ebay.I have seen no difference in my leccy bill and its on for hours May to Sept. I have it in my bedroom with the door shut.. I am under the roof, sloped ceiling. The bedroom has always been sweltering in Summer. Not anymore. It is on as we speak and if it broke tomorrow I would replace it. It has a very small onboard tank that you cannot remove to empty. I have only emptied it at the end of the season for storage, was barely any water in there. You have to put the machine up high and use a drain tube to empty it. I use the staircase. My house does have dehumidifiers so is not a damp environment. (edited)

Hi, have this model had for around 18 months, and it has been a God send for the hot days and nights, although I live in an apartment, it's of a large size and this cools the room down within around 10 minutes, no regrets at in this purchase I will try upload a pic, but you won't be disappointed and on sleep mode you soon get used to it much better that sound that suffering in with the heat, today in Leeds its been in use

How cool does it manage to get your room down to? To the point of 20C? Does it ever sort of go into standby as temperature has been achieved?

Please watch reviews of these types of machines before buying. I returned after about a day, they are VERY loud, hear it from the other side of the house loud, I couldn't work in the same room as it. You must exaust hot air outside via an open window and you must also draw fresh air in due to the pressure difference so whilst they put out a decent amount of cold, they will continually be drawing fresh warm air in making them horribly inefficient.
    markgh's avatar
You're right about them drawing in hot air from outside, it's the same for every 'single hose' unit and something people seem to think they can overcome by sealing around the exhaust.

I converted mine to a dual hose and it makes a world of difference. Room air is sucked in, cooled and pumped out, as usual. Outside air is pulled in through an additional hose, cools the coils and is pumped back out through the exhaust. No pressure vacuum in the room, no outside air pulled in.

Advert on wilko now appears to be updated to 5000BTU
    pKaTz's avatar
Mine should be coming tomorrow. But wouldn't have ordered it it was only 5000BTU
  10. Mason_hodgman's avatar
Anyone knows how much this costs to run?
    Leftfield_2k2's avatar
How long is a piece of string?
Depends on a load of variables ie target temp, ambient temp, cost of kWh ..etc ..etc

However the manual states it's power (I assume it means MAX) is 1125W, a quick online calc suggests that when running full beans this AC will only cost 28p per hour to run. It will of course be significantly lower as once target temp is hit the machine will power on and off to maintain this selected temperature.
The only time this would cost 28p per hour every hour is if you are trying to cool an area way to big for it.

HOMCOM stuff is not built to last. They’re typically great at support, however, through their app; would prob just purchase from Aosom.

    So Wilko is still operating?
    Abubakar_'s avatar
Online only for now and maybe a few branches
  13. aturner123's avatar
Its important to not have a too high BTU for sized room as otherwise it ends up drawing more moisture in the room then you end up having a mould problem
  14. pKaTz's avatar
Any idea of the size of hosing or ducting needed from the back. I'm thinking of possibly buying a hose to throw out the window
    Joanie.'s avatar
    comes with an extending hose.
  15. AnonAmouse's avatar
I would recommend the following steps to get your monies worth.

    Step 1: Buy it

Step 2: Use it up until the 13th day then return it. Reasons for returning it "doesnt match my curtains"

Step 3: If it is still hot outside, repeat step 1. If not, you have completed your mission "rent an AC unit for free" (edited)

    Yep

Always avoid the single hose air conditioners, they're not efficient at all. The problem is they have to pull in air into the room so it's constantly heating up the room it is trying to cool. Where the ones with two hoses pump cool air into the room and the hot air gets forced out.
    WiktorSebastianSzota's avatar
No they don't they suck air from the room and spit out hot air outside
  19. banshee3099's avatar
    Is this nosey?

Can’t complain at £150 for it. Free delivery and 14 day return window if it doesn’t work out.

Cheers op, ordered using BLC, so will see how it compares to my 15yr+ old unit!

I have a whirlpool 12000BTU AC, which is fine if you’re close to it.
but these single hose systems end up heating up the rest of the house due to the negative pressure it creates.
    Russ555's avatar
adding your own second hose is easy enough

Mine arrived, bit noisy but when is AC ever quiet! The level is consistent with other units ive had in the past so not any worse.

Great performance for my small office (single bedroom). I don't think this will have issues cooling down a larger double room.
    EdwardJamesReed's avatar
Can you post a video of it ? Does it get cold quickly ?
  37. EdwardJamesReed's avatar
Someone on reviews says it’s 5000BTU
    Garth2022's avatar
Yeah a couple of reviews are mentioning that :/

Get a DC motor ceiling fan, or go all out and get split air conditioning unit.
    regil's avatar
    Author
I agree with the split unit as my parents have one and it’s brilliant for the open plan kitchen/diner they have.
But it’s only really worth it if you’re going to stay in your house for the long term, which a lot of people will either rent or need to size up eventually (not a forever home). Also means you can only cool the room it’s installed in.
A ceiling fan seems like a poor alternative as well, why go through all the electrical trouble when a standing fan in a corner gives a better option for portability and ease.
